  1. I picked up an old Venter trailer off Scamtree for R4000.00....6 foot trailer with nosecone, spent another R1200 on replacing a hub, bearings, one tyre....should have known better than to buy the thing unseen but I live in the Cape and needed something to leave in KZN for holidays to the Wild Coast. At the time I did not even look into wheel size etc so it's one of the older trailers with the 10" wheels. Anyway I recently added the aluminium rack as per the pictures below and two Holdfast bike fork clamps, one being thru-axle and 1 QR. The downside of these Holdfast fork clamps is you need to stash the front wheels separately so unless you get the racks for the wheels as well it's a bit of a pain. I left the space in the middle for my kayak but you could easily add two to three more bikes to the rack if need be. It is rock solid and sturdy, even with a 30KG plastic boat on top and is light to tow. I would have preferred 13" wheels as per the new Venter trailers but too late to cry about it now and the trailer has proven to be tough travelling rough gravel and so far no problems yet. Best thing is it cost very little and being old I do not worry about it getting scratched, dinged, used on gravel, lending it to mates or leaving it outside. Trailers are weird things...I never thought I would want one, but now I do have it I don't know how I managed without it.PM me if you want more info on the rack, it cost a lot less than I thought it would via a retailer in Stellenbosch.
  2. There's a SARS implication for the company in there somewhere.
  3. If it's only for one bike for quick jaunts to wherever you are riding the Thule express works well.....I often use it if I want to load up for a quick after work ride or if we're only taking one bike away for the weekend. It is easy to use, quick to fit, light, takes up no space and is pretty cheap. For anything more than one bike or just around town the platform is the only way to go. Ideally you need both....if you can only buy one the platform rocks.
  4. Beanz that looks awesome.....definitely top of the list for me should I ever be forcibly (as it won't happen willingly!) separated from my 110 29....enjoy the bike and be sure to issue a ride report when you are ready!
  5. Awesome event.... Got lucky enough to "score" an entry to the Trek last year and it was absolutely bloody fantastic. If you are still thinking about whether or not you should be doing it just get on with it already
  6. If you're studying at Stellies you'll be riding Jonkers and Eden for sure, I would def have gone for something with a bit more grip up front.....also...wintermud is coming! Remember it may not for now be to get yourself to push the envelope right away but when you overcook it into a corner unexpectedly it might save you some skin. Re stem length I have no idea re your dimensions so have no place commenting on it... Chat to the bikeshop rather.
  7. ....and shorter stem. That's just me though....
  8. Luke you're going to love that bike. If it was my build I'd probably go for a slightly more aggressive tyre up front than a Race King...maybe chat to Malan and the boys at Velo re recommending an alternative. What color frame are you getting?

    Fork adaptor..

I think you're out of luck mate, new hub for you.
  10. TYGA

    Fork adaptor..

Depends on the hub, a couple of them can be switched using adapters ie Hope hubs switch easily between all formats. Which hubs do you have on the bike?
  11. Width? (If Hairy doesn't want it....)
  12. MH - Here's your ones brother going for a pre-purchase test ride in Eden. This bike loves the G-spot more than most.
  13. Awesome build and bike....I love mine! Those bikes stand back for nothing and to be honest I think mine is just as capable, if not more so when hitting the rough stuff in Jonkershoek than my 150mm Heckler. Certainly a hell of a lot quicker down the trail. Post it to the Pyga thread as well...things have been a bit dead there of late.
  14. Double post....
  15. Rode the black route as far as the waterfalls and then onto the blue back to Hemel and Aarde both yesterday afternoon and this morning....doing that section takes under two hours of which probably 80% if not more is single-track....well signed, great views, lekker singletrack, good flow on the downhill sections around Camphill....no complaints from my side, a lot of words come to mind to describe riding here but lame certainly is not one of them. It's easy to criticise but before Euodia started building trails and negotiating land access here the riding was pretty much all just trespassing on jeep tracks on private property and the short Fernkloof Route so hats off to them.
  16. Really beautiful bike, I hope you get her back.
  17. Pyga 110 29 with Arch Ex or Flows on Hopes...

    Steilte Trails

Exciting times to be a MTBer in the Cape indeed. I hope the shuttle roads can survive the increase in traffic this is sure to bring, one or two of those corners are already pretty loose getting up there. Imagine a lift running shuttles up Helderberg...
  19. Catgirl I have one you can use until your green one arrives from wherever you are ordering it from. I am in Steynsrust in Somerset West if you want to come and pick it up this weekend...not home this afternoon but tomorrow should be OK. What else do you need to get rolling? PM me to maak 'n plan.
  20. Entries close today. http://dirtopia.co.za/24-hours-of-oakvalley
  21. You nailed those orange over black decals PERFECTLY! Awesome project....would love to do something similar with my raw Pyga...soon. What grips you going with? I'm looking for some lekker orange ones for my blue Heckler....anyone stocky Oury's?
  22. Honesty box at the shop.
  23. The riding is well worth while, keep a look out for Puffies...saw two on my last ride there, one of which I saw too late to do anything about other than some half arsed half baked attempt at an unintended one-footer bunnyhop in my attempt to miss it.
  24. Jan and his team from Euodia Cycles at the Wine Village in Hermanus were the drivers behind the routes in this area. I rode there a few times this December...these guys have put in huge effort so plus one on the thanks.
