  1. All of the best Bonus. Live your dream! We would like to visit some time.
  2. Unless he has been clipped by a car or motorbike before he came in to view, the amount of cars had nothing to do with his accident. The car he crashed into did nothing wrong, it followed a predictable line and speed through the corner. If you look care fully Matt came in to the corner already out of control. It was an absolute horrific accident and I hope he will make a full recovery. Pro cycling certainly aint for the faint of heart!
  3. There is also the gravel road option between Clarens and Fouriesburg. It goes down towards the Caledon river, and for a while you are quite close to the river with Lesotho a mere stone throw away. You will pass by the spot where the delivery tunnel of the Lesotho highlands water scheme crosses the border on its way to the Ash river outfall. From there it is tarred, but very quiet, back to the R711 between Clarens and Fouriesburg. Patchelicious, I am afraid a long weekend is going to be to short!
  4. For some hardcore mountain biking visit Camelroc just before the Caledonspoort border post. The 30 km trail is technical in parts, and the climb to the top is very tough, but it is a rewarding experience. Camelroc guest farm is about 40 km from Clarens. WRT road cycling the R712 from Clarens to Harrismith offers a good climb and is very scenic.
  5. Thanks guys! Much appreciated. Can't wait for my holiday to start and to escape the drought that has hit our part of the Freestate, even if it is only for a couple of weeks.
  6. Will someone like me who never learned to do big gap jumps and tabletops be able to enjoy Garden Route Trail Park? I don't mind rock gardens or smallish drop offs, but never learned to jump properly. What other trails in the Garden Route area is a must do? I will be holidaying in Plett for about 11 days in February. What are the trails like this time of year? Very muddy and wet?
  7. How about home made macadamia nut butter? http://thecoconutmama.com/2012/12/homemade-macadamia-nut-butter/ I don't add the honey though. Warning! This stuff is addictive, thats why I stopped making it.
  8. Peanut butter is not a healthy choice, whether you are doing LCHF, paleo or even normal high carb diet. You can do a search on this thread, it has been covered already, or you can do a google search: "what is wrong with peanut butter" My biggest concern regarding peanut butter is its high content of the Omega 6 fatty acid; linoleic acid. It is a struggle these days to eat the correct ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids, because of our westernized diet which contain a lot of seed and grain oils high in omega 6. Avoiding grain and seed oils will go a long way towards improving your health.
  9. Ridgebacks has got tremendous stamina and a good tolerance for the African heat. Their forefathers, the Hottentot hunting dog, is the only indigenous Southern African dog. I try to take my current Ridgeback, Katy, and the Jack Russell, Rafiki, on a run on the farm at least twice a week. Me on the mountain bike, doing a chilled ride through the fields and paddocks inspecting the crop and livestock and them frolicking and chasing guinea-fowl, rabbits, meerkat and the like. They often do runs of 25 km or even more as long as we pass by some open water where they can have a swim and a drink.
  10. What a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback Kahlua is! They are just the cleanest, healthiest and most loyal breed to keep in SA. Show me another dog with so much expression in their face. I have had 5 Ridgebacks in my time and will be a Ridgeback fan forever!
  11. Might be muscle mass loss?
  12. I am confused. Can't remember a single meter of technical riding on the whole transbaviaans route? It is all open gravel road or at the worst jeep track.
  13. The first international LCHF health summit to be held in Cape Town in February: https://www.facebook.com/events/880528391966336/?ref=22 Should be a good one, lots of international experts attending: Dr Eric Westman, Dr Jay Wortman, Dr Stephen Phinney, Christine Cronau, Dr Ann Childers, Dr Gary Fettke, Prof Tim Noakes, Dr Andreas Eenfeldt, Jimmy Moore, Dr Aseem Malhotra and Judy Crane. Any hubbers going?
  14. Blitzbokke you beauties! What a final! What a tournament! What a bunch of team players! Nice to be a Saffa tonight sevens champs as well as miss world!
  15. Hi Dean. Sorry only saw this now. The days have been long putting in the new crop. We have had some good rain since early November, but nothing spectacular. (About 110 mm in total) We are struggling after 2 years of well below average rainfall. (The 2012/2013 season has been the driest in 100 years) Really hoping for some good rain so that the vleie and spruite can have a good run and fill up our dams and the groundwater reserves. My dogs, Rafiki the Jack Russel, Bonnie the Labrador, and Katie aka Catherine the Rhodesian Ridgeback, also goes ballistic when they hear the sound of the velcro on my mtb shoes or the squeal of my running shoes on the kitchen floor. (We got Katie on the day William and Catherine got married, hence the name. ) When I want to do some serious training I have to leave them at home, so I need to sneak out of the front door long before dawn without waking them up. Katie and Rafiki have very good stamina, but Bonnie tires very quickly. Normally I would return home after about an hour and a bit of hard riding and then call them along for half an hour which provides me with a very decent and long cool down period, and them with some enjoyment of frolicking through the veldt.
  16. Rafiki could not be happier What could be nicer (and healthier) for a dog running through the veldt with his owner, chasing birds, rabbits etc? Remember I am also in the cropsprayer, what should be safe and healthy for me should be safe for him? I wont take him along when working with dangerous and hazardous chemicals. That photo was taken while spraying herbicide.
  17. Rafiki, my co pilot in the cropsprayer. He loves running through the fields with me, while I am on the mountain bike. The furthest he has gone in one go is 30 km. Fit little bugger.
  18. I know its gonna take a long time, but read through the whole thread, there are plenty of people who have added there personal experiences WRT low carb living, training and racing. To sum it up for you: You can go very long and slow without any carbs, but if you up the tempo to race pace, you will need carbs. End van prent.
  19. There is a German restaurant in Clarens called Roter Hahn. They stock some German and Belgian beers. Maybe they can tell you who their importers is?
  20. We have some buffalos of our own. We have tested it and will continue testing it, it is very, very stable. Does not move an inch.
  21. Paris has got the Tour de France and the Arc de Triomphe. Bothaville has the 2 River Challenge and the Arc de Two River:
  22. Over sensitive. Multiichoice broadcasts to Africa, not only SA.
  23. Thanks man. That is special. The man is an absolute genius!
  24. Hydrogenated vegetable fat? Eish! Aikona. Worst type of edible fat known to man. My personal opinion: Hou verby.http://www.3fatchicks.com/6-risks-of-hydrogenated-oils-in-your-diet/
  25. Thanks! We are all farmers involved in this event! Better skilled at welding than carpentry though.
