  1. I am going to do this. Few simple questions please:

    1. I have a 105 road groupset - can I use it as is for the conversion on my 10 speed XT MTB? Meaning, replace everything from XT to 105 incl the cassette - I cannot think why it would not work. On a gravel handlebar of course.

    2. Can I simply replace my XT hydraulic brakes with mechanicals and will the 105 mechanical shifter be able to do the job?

    Thanks in advance

Saying this tongue in cheek but I would say if you own a gravel bike but decide to do the national gravel champs on your mtb then you need to consider that owning a gravel bike is possibly a waste of your money.

Agree. Last year the 1st MTB in was 36th overall

Since you were in the convoy, I'll ask your opinion as well. Did this make any difference to the outcome of the result? Was Pritzen working with Ryan or was he just marking him or is Gibbons just on another level that it would've made no difference? My angle is did it help Gibbons narrow the gab which allowed him to bridge later?

Sorry only saw this now. Ryan was upping the pace got away from the peleton - dont recall Marc staying with him long though - Marc was back in the chasing bunch into the reserve

  4. Was in the convoy

Break went up the road and managed 5 min at some point. Tristan was in there no other threats.

On the last lap the gap came down. On the road leading to SBR there wasa crossswind from right to left. The pace got hard en the peleton was strung out and then gaps appeared - those out of position lost out and got into scattered bunches.

Tristan was lone leader with 2 mins or so. At that stage also Ryan got away. Into the reserve it all fel apart. The bunch was down to about 12and they were dropping one by one.

Morne got away slowly and was thus 3rd on the road.

The remaining small bunch out of the reserve was only Reinie, Marc and 3 u23s (who ended up sprinting for their own podium).

So Ryan did catch Tristan at the exit and rode away. Won by like 2 mins from Tristan who was in front of Morne.

  6. Approaching 200km its very early to judge.

I think Drikus is going too hard, Willie is the dark horse but inexperienced at this it will count against him this uncertainty - and his plan not to sleep hmmmm.

Thinus - too young his also not known for this distances. David is good but 800km to go still...

To me they all playing into the hands of Hansie.

    Hi All

I have a small itch that I am not sure I want to scratch.

I am contemplating changing my wheelset to a carbon set with a deeper profile.

My bike currently has a set of Mavic R Sys wheels which have given me great service for the 7 or years that I have had them - they are quite light and stiff.

Should I bite the bullet and go down this route?

Will need to be for a rim brakes and I would prefer to stay with tubes for now.

Or should I just ignore this itch and move on !

I have scouted a few options 2nd hand in the classifieds already

    Also got R-sys

    Also got the itch

I think cycling as a whole has taken a beating. First from cost of equipment, then entries and now the element of PADEL which is taking away a lot of interest. Retailers and event organisers need to start paying attention or the sport will start going the way golf did when cycling was on the up-and-up.

.... and Covid. Covid changed how we think and how we cycle. we just never got back into the groove and event organizer took a beating with sponsors. Its a different world.

Ok we got races confirmed and age categories defined, and you allocate points to the results. So a winner is determined by the end of the series. What do they win? What do the points mean for the rest of the riders?

I am just trying to understand what the benefit is of traveling and doing all these races? Are these ranking connected to colours in any way?

National road series champion badge 🎖️

We dont have much to offer this year (yet, maybe an invitation to the annual awards ceremony?)- if it takes off and there is interest, then we can negotiate with some leverage with the EOs and potential sponsors - baby steps unfortunately. The Aus road series is hugely popular but it took them a few years.

One of the potential spinoff can be to include criteriums or road races with criteriums (both for adults and to offer raicng to youths) - remember the crits after Emperors?

Can not be colours unfortunately - colours you earn when you represent your country or province.
