  1. Howzit Psycotics. Been off the bikes for a couple of years, as the knees didn't enjoy the attempted upgrades...

Looking at offloading the bikes. What do you think it's worth?

Cotic Simple Large / Mavic SLR wheels / RS Revelation Fork / SS & Geared attachments / Ritchey Trail Seatpost, Stem & Handlebar / Avid 9 Brakes / XT shifter & derailleur 1x10 / Spez Phenom saddle. Bike is in really good shape.

Will post a current pic shortly.

  2. The law is clear. The situation isn't, and is constantly changing.

I suspect that the cyclist doesn't have much to fear from the law (based on the little info given).

This isn't the Oscar P case, where the guy shot through a closed door, supossedly at an unidentified attacker. This was close quarters, 3 (or 2) against 1, and the assailants had the opportunity to back off too.

I just don't know why he would have gone after the guys, and left the bike he was protecting, behind...

Everything else adds up. Hope they drop the charges.

It also goes to show the damage a knife can do, if you assaulted by one of these guys. It doesn't sound like the cyclist got multiple stabs in. A well placed jab, or slash, does irrepairable damage.

  3. Someone has serious skills with edged weapons... That's close and personal stuff.

Glad the cyclist came away physically unscathed.

Sadly, more and more, we are becoming a society of victims. There is just more & more unemployment, so the likelihood of these types of attacks will continue & increase. During the Ashburton Ballito race, it was very apparent that the youth in those 1000's of hills have very little prospects of a better life.

    Be safe people.

  4. Pulled the trigger and installed a Revelation on the Cotic.

Definitely a LOT stiffer than my RS 100mm QR straight steerer model.

Only done one run on it, but it is super plush on the downs. Climbing feels the same. I didn't measure the BB height prior, but it looks and feels higher, so no pedal strikes in future.

It does seem slightly slower through the tight bends. Quick right and left is no longer as quick, but I suppose this is due to the longer wheelbase.

Running the fork @ 130mm. Might have to drop it to 120mm but will give it a chance to settle in.

    I'll leave this here...

Ham was clearly catching up to Ros. Lap times show this.

    Tyres, talent - doesn't matter.

If there was a yellow flag out just prior to the collision between them, why did Ros overcook the entry into the corner?

Slow mo clearly shows that his wheels were still going straight, whilst Hamilton was turning in, on the outside.

Think Ros ran out of talent, and made a shitty decision. Merc could have still had a 1 / 2 on the podium.

Not a fan of Rosburg. As for the booing by the other camp, loved the way Ham handled it in the interview.

  6. Some pretty impressive work here, Gents. Who knew....

Need some advise. Doing a full renovation & addition (what was I thinking...) and part of the project included replacing all the trusses in the original home.

So I now have a bunch of timber, that looks worse for wear; and I would really like to clean it up a little, to utilise as a work top / bench in the garage.

The biggest challenge is that they lack uniformity in thickness. Would I have to run them through a "thicknesser" or a plane?

I have limited woodworking tools (belt sander & orbital) but other than cleaning up, don't think I would be able to get the uniformity.

There used to be a community workshop near Ghandi Square a few years ago, but that is no longer.

Would gladly hire equipment, or pay for expertise.

    Any ideas / suggestions appreciated.

  7.

There were a few people wondering around the finish with their arms in slings, heard there was quite a bad crash on the half.

Anybody have an update on Kobus' condition? He went don't real hard on that kicker of a water culvert. Hope he has recovered, as that was a mean wipeout. Never felt so incompetent in my life, seeing the guy totally unconscious like that...

Real interesting thread. Lots of talent out there.

Quick question - I have this table, and the top appears to have "warped". It is reclaimed wood, New Zealand pine from my understanding.

Is there a way to repair it, or thin the top down to an acceptable level of straight?.

In the photo, you can see how the top left corner has kicked up.

Or is firewood the next best thing?

  9. On one of our regular nightrides,  we were going through a dip on a tar road, and I thought the cable thieves had left the cable housing lying in the road... about 2 meters before I got there, the housing moved. The guys behind me reckon I cleared it with a bunny hop, by 75cm. I believed them, as my front fork hit its full travel.

A small piddle was evident in my lycra... One gent still thought it was cable housing, so we went back, and the housing had moved along... Not clued up on snakes at all, so avoid all of them.

This oke was spotted 3 weeks back, off a trail we use, in my neck of the woods. Please identify.

  10. Ok so a question to the tire experts ....

Supposing you had the choice of the tires in the picture (Arisun - Mount Graham, Continental X-king and Vittoria Saguaro)

I currently have the Mount Grahams fr and bk .... don't like them but got them free

    I have 1 * Saguaro and 2 * X-king 'spare'

Which combination would you guys suggest fr and bk out of what I have?

    attachicon.gifWhatsApp-Image-20160506.jpg

IMO - those Mount Grahams (never heard of them) are more than likely better than the continentals. Had X-Kings a few years back, and got really tired of finding myself sprawled on the trail, with no forewarning.... Reckon they hold up fine, but there is a point where they just let go...

Now there is a set of tyres you should give away (to pay it forward).... I would go as far as including the postage....

  11. Yes....they're brilliant and their price is unbeatable. Read bikeradar reviews and you'll see that both the Buther and the Ground Control makes it onto their top 10 list. Personally I'd take the Buther over the Purgatory up front as it is a bit more versatile and then I have Ground Control on the back for a little speed and slide

Have to agree Pyka. Used to be a fan of Schwalbe RR front and rear for an all round xc tyre, but their prices got ridiculous, and they wept all the sealant through the tread.

Switched to FastTrack/Ground Control up front & Renegade on the rear, and only have good things to say.

Considering you can get 2 G.Controls (in Control version) for the price of 1 RR (snakeskin)... No going back.

    Onza Canis looks interesting too.

  12. Rode @ Van Gaalens on Sunday. Was blown away by the trail and the condition of the trails. Hadn't been there in over a year.

Was a memorable day on the bike. We had to cut it short as one of the guys taco'd a wheel on one of the rocks on the Tant Miems section, about 10kms in, but we still did Dagga Pad and the river section. 35kms give or take, of flowing single track mostly.

Highly recommended it to anybody in the area.
