  1. The sponsors cover the entry fee, or part of it, or logo'd apparel, or everything. It all depends on their level of involvement, and objectives. Well done on your completed DC's. "Easiest" the current route may be historically, but it remains tough for those attempting it and still needs to be completed before riders receive their medals.
  2. Hell yes I'm keen, for sure!
  3. Ouch, that hasta hurt!
  4. Hubbers are merely expressing their opinions Slowbs, on a social networking website, as requested by the OP.
  5. I kinda agree. Local prices will be through the roof. Exchange rate seems favourable(ish) at the moment so If I can land the TB2c at 25k or less, black with white decals, I would seriously consider looting my 5yr old daughter's piggy bank.
  6. What model TB do you have? I ride a Superlight, but TBc is the ultimate frameset for me. Looks like we're bulk buying with FCH, perhaps the numbers will shrink accordingly.
  7. Local prices are 31k plus, for the TB2c frameset. 25k inclusive landed is a steal, but you won't get local support from Dragon. PM me the details if you don't mind. I'm ideally looking for the TB1c in a Medium, just prefer the black and red aesthetics, but keen to explore TB2 option. Weight improvement over TB1c is only about 220 grams, so much of a muchness.

IMHO PPA have brought the CSA puppies to heel, we should soon see a press announcement that the two parties have "reached a settlement" (lawyer-speak for we've whupped yer ass) or "are busy talking" (lawyer-speak for we're trying to find a way to make it appear our asses weren't whupped). You get a +1 and a like for that. Seeding is much better indication of ability than age.
  9. Pffffffft, Santa Cruz Tallboy
  10. Exactly in the order of your thread title. PYGA, then Giant and lastly Merida
  11. Spaces between sentences don't cost a penny (that's just a money saving trick I picked up in primary school ). Use the tab bar, it makes for easier reading.
  12. Money is a conduit to cycling, as with everything else. I like cycling more than I like money.
  13. Here we go, Friday is off to the usual start.
  14. The difference between the UK and RSA is the authorities there DO something about safety, here they just thumb their noses at cyclists and pocket the cash!
  15. Hi Hubbers, In early September a group of 5 HOME OF HOPE adventurers and I will climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania along the Umbwe Route. Umbwe is the shortest, steepest and toughest ascent. We chose this route purposefully and trained for it to signify the immense challenges faced by children afflicted with various preventable disorders through absolutely no fault of their own.. Our HOME OF HOPE Kilimanjaro team goal is to summit Uhuru Peak at 09H00 on 9 September 2013, which is International FASD Awareness Day. Across the world bells are rung at 09:09 on the 9th day of the 9th month to raise awareness for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Our Kilimanjaro team intends to share their plight from from the "Roof of Africa".. HOME OF HOPE in Table View, Cape Town, provides protection, education and support services for abused, abandoned and neglected children who suffer from FAS, FASD and HIV. Our Kilimanjaro climb has two goals: To raise awareness about the challenges faced by FASD children: To raise funds to build a school for HOME OF HOPE's project AMATHEMBA. Currently AMATHEMBA operates its primary school from the campus of its partner school, the West Coast Christian School, and its pre-school from the Home of Hope residential property. The size constraints of both current locations, coupled with the growth in numbers of the children, completely inhibit expansion for this project. With the overwhelming need for the specialist education offered at AMATHEMBA, building a school has been found to be the best solution but will cost an estimated R3m. This school will serve as a pilot model according to which many similar schools could be rolled out nationally. I plead with all Hubbers to open their hearts and wallets. No amount is too little. I hesitate to use the word “charity”, as it comes across as dismissive and condescending toward these brave and deserving children, although that is of course exactly what the home is. The Home does AMAZING work which focuses on equipping kids with debilitating hereditary disorders with the basic skills required to conquer life’s many challenges. It is noteworthy that all sponsorships are tax deductible (the Home is a registered Public Benefits Organisation) and paid directly to the Home. Each climber funds their own expedition costs (approx R35000), in this way the funds raised by the generous sponsors benefit the children without being diluted. All sponsorships and donations will be provided with a SARS tax certificate to mitigate tax liability, either personal or company. HOME OF HOPE's bank details are: Bank: Standard Bank Branch: Bayside Shopping Centre, Table View Branch code: 022209 Acc Name: Home of Hope C/Acc Nr: 272800988 Swift Code: SBZAZAJJ Please use MY HUB NAME as a deposit reference, and PM me if you require a SARS certificate. That way we can tally the total raised by hubbers monthly and I will post updates here. If you are in Cape Town, please visit the Home to see the wonderful work they do. The home needs all the financial assistance it can get in order to achieve it's goal of building a dedicated school for deserving and brave FAS, FASD and HIV children. Please also LIKE the Facebook pages, located at https://www.facebook.com/homeofhopeamathemba?fref=ts and https://www.facebook.com/HomeofHopeJTG?fref=ts. DSTv have kindly agreed to air our JORNEY TO GREATNESS advertisment, filmed right here on Table Mountain, over the next 3 months. I will poste the scheduled flighting times here daily. TinToy Productions donated their expertise pro-bono, to film and produce it. Once it's uploaded to YouTube, I will post the link here too. VodaCom, MTN and Cell C have donated an SMS line FREE OF CHARGE. All cash raised through the SMS line goes directly to the home, without any of the networks taking a penny. Each time you send a blank SMS to 48889, R10 is debited from your account and credit to HOME OF HOPE. PLEASE forward this invitation to everybody on your Facebook and urge them to do the same. Make the circle beeeeger Hubbers. The more, the merrier. This a cause very close to my heart. Surely we can all spare fifty bucks, or a hundred bucks there? We waste that amount daily on insignificant things like tobacco and alcohol. Make the next R50 you spend count, make a difference to the quality of life of these kids. Many "littles" make a LOT. It's as easy as 1,2,3 EFT Many thanks, a million times over in advance, for your kind consideration and generousity. I will post loads of photos of our journey, before and after. Warm regards, Brogue
  16. Get on, hold on, stay on . Actually that's an instruction I received from my wife many years ago, I simply applied it to cycling .
  17. If the seller is legit, and the machine in good nick, I'll make him a WAYNE AMOUNT offer!
  18. The seller is located in Boksburg, it's gotta be legit
  19. And richly deserved it would be too, would be great to see the likes of our very own FIRE tearing up the tarmac through the Alps.
  20. Vroom va va voom boooom vroooooom, everyone else eats his rubber. In the wake of "Live Wrong", and others since, the sport in general and the tour in particular are under the spotlight. It would be pretty stoopid to dope with WADA potentially waiting for him to take a leak after every stage and the glare of the world's media monitoring his every move.
  21. Also, whaaat eef the file corrupts mid stage or the screen cracks spontaneously or you drop it in a stream whilst taking a leak? Do the organisers lay down bread crumbs as an alternative to technology? So many what if's!
  22. Don't get me started about the USELESS CSA, very happy PPA successfully showed them last week that leisure riders in the Western Cape won't be bending over for government mouthpieces.
  23. I don't disagree, survival of the fittest. There should be a rule against ripping off youngsters though. Everyone else is fair game. If you're dumb enough to get caught ripped off, you're old enough to pay the price.
  24. Cellular networks, insurance companies, medicals aids. The knowledgeable amongst us choose the best of a bad bunch. The same applies to cycle stores, the most experienced walk away with the best deal whilst the ignorant and naive (including the noob youngsters those very stores should be encouraging) get ripped off and laughed at as soon as they exit the front door. It's an expensive lesson for them, and not the way to grow a brand or encourage loyalty. There's "stupid" and there's exploitative. The latter always wins over the former. SAD.
  25. I understand that Grumps. With increasing success comes increasing levels of trust, which in this case appears to be misplaced at best or misguided at worst. "Reputational integrity", or lack of it, if you will. The communities they service trusted and supported them whilst they were growing their footprint. They now opportunistically exploit that trust, and therefore don't deserve it. I agree with Dips, their behaviour is sad.
