  1. As mentioned above. AMA Rider is the IMBA affiliate for SA. If the trail is graded, marked and maintained according to IMBA standards, and you are a paid up member, you are covered. Fee is generally R1500 per year for the entire trail, which includes liability insurance.
  2. At that price they could at least have thrown in a mini pump as well.
  3. Have a look at DCRainmaker's reviews, it will most likely indicate which unit is most suited to your needs. The Garmin 510 will navigate on a bread crumb trail, but you won't be able to see other data whilst looking at the map. Tou will have to use buttons to navigate between the map and other data. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/01/garmin-edge-510-in-depth-review.html
  4. I, Brian Fantana, choose the one on the left, and hereby undertake to be a dick about it for the rest of my life.
  5. +1, shimano qr skewers are awesome, won't use anything else.
  6. Ja, look that is unacceptable. If you did not agree on a date and time, he might have had a leg to stand on, but it is just super arrogant to not finish a job in time, and taking care of your personal bike while the customer is waiting. I won't support them again.
  7. Did they say that your bike will be ready the next day? And did they call you to say that your bike is ready? If both parties agreed that it will be done by the next day, you have a reason to be frustrated, but if you just assumed that it will be ready the next day, well then it was a lack of communication from both parties.
  8. I have one of those which I use on camping trips. The grind is not consistent, even at the finest setting there will be fine and course grounds. From what I understand, the Porlex mini will be better for espresso, but you will grind for about 60-90 seconds for a double espresso. For a great espresso hand grinder the Pharos or Lido 2 should do the job: http://www.oehandgrinders.com
  9. I am also itching for RTR next year. Love that part of the country, and an entirely different vibe than conventional stage races. I think the cold and wind chill must be the most challenging factor. Have a look here at a few dynamo hub and light combos. Apparently they are very energy efficient, and equipped with super-caps to enable it to shine at lower output for a few minutes even when your bike is stationary. http://www.lynskey-sa.co.za/accessories.php

  12. To protect the stitches on his ding-dong and also to keep him from scratching a scrape under his ear. It will ill come off on Monday.
  13. So our 8 month old Jack Russel started getting lonely while we are at work during weekdays, so we've decided to get him a friend (from the same mom and dad):
  14. I use the same approach, but I assess the top 10 overall you mention by filtering for results on that day only.
  15. That R35 day license is a deal breaker for me.
  16. They used to offer collection in Cape Town, but it seems that they have discontinued that service.
  17. Try Cape Multi: CLICK HERE As far as I know they are in Cape Town. In my experience they stock the widest variety of Park-Tool products.
  18. I know many cyclists who will enjoy their sport a lot more if they realise what you just said and accept it. Seems like no matter how much they train, they always say they are unfit, or not in form etc.
  19. Sounds like you might have patellofemoral pain syndrome. This will not go away by just "hitting" some weights, or trying some kind of on-the-bike fix, you can easily make the condition worse if you do the wrong exercises and strain the weak leg too much. Besides, making your leg stronger might not address the core of the problem, as these muscle imbalances are many times caused by weak core muscles. There is no quick fix for this. You need to go and see a physiotherapist or biokineticist, to first of all make a proper diagnosis and from there a recovery and strengthening plan can be implemented. I went through the full above process after a very hard fall on my left knee. I started training before I was fully recovered and an imbalance was created. My GP referred me to an orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed me with patellofemoral pain syndrome, and he in turn referred me to a very good physiotherapist. After 10 weeks of doing my exercises everyday the physio cleared me for training again. I still do my exercises twice a week, and I have trained at full gas in running and cycling without any issues.
  20. It is a very cool course. It has a few steep climbs, and some cool features. I know the landowners have been working hard on a new addition to the XCO course, apparently a switchback climb. I would describe the surface as nice hard pack, but there are a few loose and sketchy sections. So loose over hard in a few sections. The course flows very nicely, and if you are smooth over the technical bits, it will be a very fast course. It tends to be dry out there this time of the year, but sometimes the cold fronts that sweep in bring some rain, and that area can become very slippery when it rains, and the mud is very sticky. Apart from the rock garden, there aren't any significant rocky sections on the route. It is definitely easier than Cascades.
  21. Hi there, I will be able to help. PM me with details, I will be leaving Friday afternoon, and we'll stay in Cathcart for the weekend. Will be at Henderson Valley on Sunday morning.
  22. Sagan came 4th in the 2009 u23 XCO World Championships, the World Champs race which Burry Stander won. http://mtbs.cz/obrazek/ms-mtb09-canberra-XC-sagan002.jpg
  23. I have a Dakine Session 8L which is nice for normal training and trail rides. I pack a whole lot of spares in it as well as 2L of hydration, snacks and a rain jacket. I also have a Dakine Amp 25L, which is awesome. I use it on very long rides, where I pack lunch, extra clothing, and I can put our lights and batteries in the bag as the sun rises. We do most of these rides in the Karoo, so there is no Vida or some foody-hangout where we can have something to eat. Plus the heavy backpack give me more of a workout while I ride with my wife.
  24. Closest you'll get to lube free drivetrain (only lubricant inside gearbox) is a belt drive:
