  1. I have seen that since Chainreaction have updated their website that any orders for South Africa are listed in US dollars.

It would be fine if it was the exchange rate between the pound and dollar but it is not.

For example, a bike repair stand is listed on the UK site at 72 pounds (R1700) but on the South African site at 141US$ (R2670)

I have emailed chain reaction but basically the response is tough luck. This really makes chainreaction no longer viable for ordering from SA

I'm trying to get some replacement parts for my drivetrain and brake units, XTR components. Standard answer is nobody has stock, Shimano cannot deliver. Deliveries "could" be possible late June, middle July. You can, however, get from overseas, not cheaper, but they have stock. Guess what - sorry, no deliveries of Shimano parts to SA. So the bigwigs at Shimano can keep us at ransom for their shite production schedules and lack of understanding of "freedom of choice"? Sitting here wondering how we just allow it? Nee man, NOT COOL!!!

I dont think its Shimano blocking us, it our local agents

Let's not give our age away here ....:P

First time I ended in ER ..... left the welding for a minute, chipped without eye protection .... that shard was hot enough to melt into my eye !!  Had to get family to take me to hospital.

Many years later ... WEARING my eye protection, while grinding ..... I was doing a lot of grinding and wiped the sweat of my brow with my sleave .....got a very fine metal particle into my eye .... That was one very long night in ER.  None of their magnets or deys could get it out .... had to see a specialist the next morning.

Most stupid one .... helping another Hubber at home ..... just "quickly" bend a 10mm rod ..... he looks at me and says: "If that thing slips ..."  Nee man, I've got this ..... BAMMM !!  Properly split open my bottom lip.  4 years later, still feel the scar tissue .....

Experience is gained about 2 seconds after you need it

  4. the picture is an internet picture but merely for illustration purposes, but this needs to "thinner" you can check this by putting it against your chain

This sounds strange, Park Tools chain breakers can be used for all chains, in fact they only have one size replacement pin driver

  5. First I've heard of that, does that mean they are only supposed to be used in concrete?

You can use them in brick but they need to be super hard. I know rawl bolt themselves say that their product can be used in anything but on a course with fischer fixings they said a nylon anchor with a coach screw is better

  6. I hung a 200l geyser side mounted on a wall with 18mm rawl bolts a few weeks back with nothing but the bottom end makita cordless drill with hammer function. Pilot with a 6mm drill then followed through with a bigger bit(shank turned down to fit in the chuck). I can't say it was a struggle at all. I have an SDS and a 1400w corded drill but the reality is life if just easier with a cordless drill... I still use the corded drill with the tile cement auger and the sds is there purely for deconstruction and the infrequency of using those tools means that cheap corded out weighs the cordless price.

I am also eyeing out the battery trim router, but will see if budget allows, there is a lot of building work in my future and other tools will take preference.

Just by the way you should never use rawl bolts in brickwork, the compressive strength of the bricks is not high enough. It is better to use nylon plugs and coach screws

  7. I would check because on the side of the screwdriver is printed PH 2x50.

PH refers to Philips not JIS

Keep your eyes open at flea markets and second hand stores for Honda or Yamaha screwdrivers because these are normally JIS

And dont bother asking at a Toyota dealership, even the head mechanic will give you a blank look. Even though every flipping screw on a toyota is JIS

  8. So was wondering, has anyone here that got Asthma used any of these pepper spray devices?  Just wondering even if it is a narrow spray some of it might still affect  the "user".  Or will it not be an issue if you press and get the hell out of there?

Ive used the stream version on a few dogs trying to get a piece of me and had no issue with blowback. It takes a few seconds for the dog to realize that something is amiss
