  1. I decide to take my semi slick commuter tyre off my SS as I got two punctures yesterday and put on a more robust treaded tyre. I had two tyres in the garage - been there most of the year - and I could not get either of them onto the rim. The reason why I had kept them was because I was previously able to get them onto this same rim with my hands ( no tyre levers required) My question is whether heat can make a tyre "shrink" or hard and inflexible. Any thoughts/opinions? My current thought is to bin all three and buy a new tyre.
  2. I will be giving this series a miss as I can't collect my number board on the morning of the event. Two trips to Pretoria from Johannesburg for each race is out of the question.
  3. 1. Rotors were running true before I left. 2. I use those plastic spacers as I remove both wheels anyway 3. I thought I might have to mark the holes so I refit in exactly the same way
  4. We are going to fly to Knysna next month with our bikes in cardboard bike boxes. Last month my front rotor got bent when we flew to Namibia with our bikes in similiar boxes. So I was wondering whether it was a good idea to remove the rotors beforehand and what are the precautions I must take when refitting them.
  5. Can you send me the same PM as I have the same question
  6. BTW The Taxi Assoc has a similiar Complaints Centre - 0860 726 822
  7. Report them - Gautrain Customer Care Centre - 0800 428 872 46 I call Putco's complaints line when their buses buzz me. It seems to increase the gap I get
  8. I have showers at work. My wife does not. She has a plastic basin that she uses to put water in to wash with.
  9. I only have an email address for Eddie Thomlinson tetattelkomsadotnet
  10. I found the November 2011 Audax newsletter if you want it.
  11. aurasan(at)global dot co dot za is the email address that I received Gauteng Audax information from last year.
  12. Sent a Google map to your PM.
  13. I commute from Honeydew to Sandton on a SS mtb. If you want I can show you our route
  14. I ride for fun so for me the biggest reason why I would not repeat an Epic or try the Cape Pioneer is they have route designers who are in competition with each other to create the hardest route. I see no reason why I must k*k off to stroke someone's ego.
  15. We are also doing Garden Route 300 for the 1st time.We will do Breedts a couple times beforehand. Our weekly training consists of 3 x 50km commutes on SS (ascent 800m a day) and a long ride on Sunday. This same schedule got us through Jhb2C without any problems.
  16. I have been riding my SC Superlight with the rear shock turned around for a few years. No problems.
  17. Can one collect numbers at venue on morning of race?
  18. I have gained about 1,5kgs since the end of Jhb2C which ended in May when I weighed what I did in Grade 10. I try and eat in moderation all the time.
  19. My link to some photos. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.285109131540517.82471.100001242982896&type=1&l=09625a81da
  20. Dan was not allowed to ride the race as he was knocked off his bike outside the country club two weeks ago and hurt his back. He was having that beer at our support vehicle. Adele rode the 2nd stage. And I did the 3rd one. I am not sure about going solo I was toying with the idea of going SS in a four man team though. I am waiting to get photos from our support driver.
  21. We had a really enjoyable trip for our first Desert Dash. Our team mates from Windhoek, who we met at the race briefing on Thursday, went out of their way to organise everything for us. Lift from airport, bakkie, support driver, food, drinks , B and Bs were all arranged by them. We stayed with Dan Craven in Windhoek and then he did a special 500km trip back to his home town so we could have a braai on a koppie on his family farm after the race. Our team's combined age was 216 and our time was 18h34. The race is mostly on good gravel roads with some riding on sand in the desert closer to Swakopmund. The temperatures ranged from 41c to about 8 c in the morning. The prevailing headwind did not blow as hard as in previous years. I had been warned about the dust from the vehicles but this was not such a big issue. Most riders pulled buffs across their mouth and nose.I saw some riders wearing surgical masks and I think that this is a better option than a buff For a race that goes down to the sea there are plenty of rolling hills with a few long steep ones thrown in on the 1st and 3rd stages. I rode the 2nd solo stage from 9pm to 1am and my magicshine light on low beam was more than adequate for the job. My wife met up with Ziggy from Polar who now lives in Windhoek. They are old tandem partners and they are now planning a tandem assault on the DD in 2012. The spirit amoungst the supporters and off duty riders at the change over points makes the race special.
  22. We had a similar experience in January. Ended up with a 6 hour and 85km ride on water and no food. We eventually got hold of the contact person who sent out a local to find us. I was hoping that the marking had been sorted out as we have planned to go back to Holla Trails next week.
  23. I agree. I was also interested in the XXIX and sent an email before the 94.7 expo. Still no reply. At the expo the representative on the stand was clueless and could not answer any of my questions. So I guess they have wasted a good opportunity and money on their ad campaign
  24. Until we started commuting during winter they only got charged when we needed to use them. Longest period without a charge was 6 months. Since May they get charged every week (and we don't run them flat) without any problems.
