  1. They had a bloody good go at stealing my cheap bike, sometimes it's opportunistic, you just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And those stats posted by Capricorn are horrific to say the least.
  2. So we shouldn't ride alone anywhere ever, not even on the road in a residential area? Yep you are right they have won...
  3. Security speak for coloured.
  4. Actually in Zwaanswyk road? There are normally a few security vehicles around there at pretty much most times of day and night. By the sounds of it they were cruising around looking for any kind of gap and you were unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Its almost laughable that these guys can drive around with no number plates knowing they will almost certainly not get stopped for it. Hopefully they get caught and you get your bike back (or you are insured) and this incident doesn't chew away at you.
  5. Thats not exactly a rough neighbourhood either, this crap looks like it can happen anywhere anytime.
  6. He just got better and better over time and his directing is fantastic (I'm not sure how many saw that coming but for sure didn't). On the subject of westerns I will always have time to watch The Magnificent Seven, love that movie.
  7. I can see why being married to a person that throws a hissy fit if a movie doesn't have a conclusive ending and preferably a happy one.I got her to watch The Italian Job (the proper one not the last piece of rubbish) just to see her reaction to the ending. It was worth it I swear you could have heard her screams in space.
  8. Absolutely right, it is your duty and someone has to.
  9. Yeah that is how it felt. Arrest list so far probably looks a bit like - Homeless x 4, a troublesome squirrel, a baboon and and old hiking boot. That said the odds of finding the right person (if that is how you can describe the murdering scum) and any evidence up there cannot be easy.
  10. Surprisingly not, it's fairly standard as far as I know. But that doesn't mean you have to agree with the insurance company's assessment of blame, you can fight them on it.
  11. You sir are a very brave man.
  12. Thanks. The thing with My Roots is there are a few places there where a sudden stop just won't be possible. If they want to run around there recommend a route of jeep track - Your Roots - jeep track - Fairy Garden. The kids will enjoy it and somewhat lower chance of inadvertently wearing a mountain bike.
  13. Between the horse riders, inner tube droppers and the runners it's getting to the point where I may need to enter a witness protection scheme soon On a side note it has to be said the kids were having a great time, all smiling and yakking on about the run.
  14. Pretty sure he won't need much help selling it to be fair.
  15. Having spent a fair amount of time riding that bike (and like Matt trying to actively avoid giving it back) I have to say this build is a bit special. Fantastic bike.
  16. Lets just leave it at I still have a bike and he still doesn't. What was concerning when I thought about it later was despite it being mid afternoon with loads of witnesses around he was still happy to try and nick the bike, that said nobody made any kind of move to help stop him.
  17. Purely from a personal perspective that feels like the case to me, in the last two or so years we have been hit with the following - House burgled 3 times Eldest son mugged once, would have been twice but he had nothing to steal the second time Guy follows wife through gate and grabs bag/purse once Attempted bike jacking (although that one went a little pear shaped for him) It's madness.
  18. Last time I went hiking with the family over that side of the mountain there were quite a few shady characters around and my wife point blank refuses to walk over that side of the mountain saying she did not feel safe. Honestly can't say I blame her.
  19. I have a feeling that Deon's responses in the thread are being horribly misconstrued. Pretty sure he is trying to say find out what you are up against before rushing out to deal with it.
  20. School kids from Redham House (primary age) were doing cross country down My Roots today around 3pm. I spoke to the teacher but I'm not entirely sure he was too bothered by what I said.
  21. Thats all well and good but I think runners should be made to wear bells on their ankles so that we can hear them coming.
  22. Did you by any chance go to the Basil Fawlty school of management?
  23. You think that is a scam? Have you had a look at their life insurance? I pity anybody paying for that rubbish (especially the somewhat loosely defined dread disease and disability cover) and their promises of getting premiums back if you don't claim by a certain stage in the future. Not mentioning that the average life policy lasts around seven years before being replaced...
  24. It may be the norm but sometimes one party is 100% at fault.
  25. This. Its pretty much their first action. If you have your own insurance go to them to fight it, if not go to the ombud.
