  1. After the Hicks and Gillett debacle Liverpool are delighted to still be a going concern.
  2. Oddly people used to like them for that very reason, the madness around that club was fascinating and they had some of the most dedicated fans around (who put up with no end of ridiculous things). But for me, and as far as I can see a lot of other people, it's the cheating that puts you off. Plus all the new glory hunting plastic fans that are suddenly all over social media excusing the cheating and probably more importantly excusing the human rights abuses that seem to be part and parcel of the country that owns the club. If they had reached where they are today in the same way Spurs have they would have garnered so much more respect.
  3. My better halfs mood after that was not good. Not good at all. I was left contemplating the couch as the better, and much safer, option for a while there. Went with waiting out the storm and sitting alone in the lounge as she grumbled her way to sleep. I'm hoping a whole day of GoT debate at work will have calmed her down by this evening.
  4. It's never really been taken seriously at all, probably a bit late to start now. I do wonder though if it was played at the end of the season, as opposed to being the curtain raiser for the new season, if it would be seen as more important.
  5. True it could go that way but I'm hoping for more of a Blackburn scenario, which to be fair would be a very City thing to do. What is noticeable right now is that for every article saying how good they are there is another starting to question the ethics of the club, which is fair but also something all of football could do without.
  6. Depends what you class as a treble - for instance in 1984 Liverpool won the league, league cup and the European cup. Out of all the trebles listed my opinion is that the city one is bottom of the list. Top are the 1999 Man U one (and I hate admitting that) and the Liverpool 1984 version. City haven't come close to that level of achievement. And for all the cry-arsing about how good City are if Liverpool win their next game they will have as many European cups as city have league championships. And if Spurs win they will have achieved something that city, for all their money and probable cheating, have never managed. City still have the same amount of league championships as Sunderland. And European cups come to think of it...
  7. But all the murders, bloodshed, decapitations, fiery deaths etc are cool. Same rules applied by my wife in our house, basically anything can happen on screen and all is good but the first sign of an errant body part and that's the kids ruined for life
  8. Sorry but no. A large amount of time and effort is expended dealing with the effects of water run off on trails. I'm no fan of ebikes (I tend to hiss like an angry badger when I see one) but they in their current guise are not going to tear up trails any more than a normal bike with a 'panic braker' riding.
  9. It is odd how it swings so much from one side to the other. Fans basically have a nervous breakdown when a player won't sign a new contract, often seeing it as disrespectful to the club and a nasty sign of player power. The same fans won't bat an eye when the club decides a player is no longer good enough or part of their plans and doesn't renew the contract. Basically we are all hypocrites.
  10. Manager "Dave, Dave! Centre circle now!" Stadium announcer "Substitution, number 7 David..."
  11. It doesn't strengthen the whole league equally - take the three relegated teams as an example who this year set a new record low for combined points (76). That is a number that is falling year on year (111 was the total in 2011).Something is very wrong when the gap is that wide.
  12. I'm genuinely not interested in the global growth of the PL, what difference does it really make to me which team can claim the most Twitter followers in Pakistan? The money has ruined football in England as far as I am concerned, in the years before the premier league arrived Derby, Villa, Leeds, Everton and Forest all won the league. Since then Only leicester, as a club of similar means, have won. How can that be good?
  13. I'm entirely conflicted by the whole FFP thing. On the one hand if UEFA are saying "Here's some rules to stop you doing a Leeds" I'm in favour of it. If it prevents a situation like France where PSG should just be handed the trophy at the start of the season, again I'm in favour of it. If though it locks teams out and stops a club growing organically then I'm against it. But whether it is a good idea or not isn't the point right now, the real point is that all these teams agreed to the rules when they accepted an invitation to take part in the competition only to then try and cheat their way around them. I would be very disappointed to find the team I support had acted that way.
  14. City and, to a lesser degree, Chelsea will in all likelihood be more than happy for FFP to be strictly applied in the future. Now that they are in the 'top club' section of their league I'm sure they would be quite chuffed to see the door locked and bolted behind them locking them in and others out. It has hardly been a secret that they cheated their way to success, and yes if they did they should be punished, but it is pretty much too late to have any meaningful effect now. They got what they wanted.
  15. What on earth made you think posting that was a good idea?
  16. Interviewer: Suarez took you out didn't he? Robbo: But who's in the final? Edit - To be fair to Suarez he did promise not to celebrate at Anfield and he was as good as his word...
  17. That just looked like sheer willpower, Barcelona just couldn't handle the intensity.
  18. Just wow. That's all.
  19. That is the whole figure inclusive of TV rights, coefficient rating, prize money etc.The TV pool seems to be split into percentages based on your league finishing position not on CL performance (that triggers a higher co-efficient payment). The TV payments are also linked to the value of your home market so, oddly, Barcelona would earn less than Juventus (was the example I saw). Ajax for sure won't get a particularly high payment in comparison with teams from Italy, Spain and England. Swiss Ramble on Twitter has a really good guide - https://twitter.com/swissramble/status/1039056886610505729?lang=en
  20. Nope. CL revenue has increased substantially and Liverpool earned around 78m Euros last year, this year even assuming bombing out at the semi-final stage has seen an increase to 92m Euros.
  21. Everybody seems to forget that City had a five point lead before that, but the narrative seems to dictate that them being reeled in didn't happen.
  22. Nothing wrong with having a hobby.
  23. I've ridden that part quite a bit and have not heard of any problems on that section. That said you never know so be aware of anything that looks out of place.
  24. I really enjoyed the first season, which was a bit of a surprise as I started watching it completely convinced a childhood memory was about to get ruined, Off to grab season two now.
  25. Just caught up with the latest episode of line of Duty which is ticking along nicely with lots of twists and turns. It is suffering though from a lack of dragons and ice zombies.
