  1. I've got the non-sapphire model and bought a generic cellphone screen protector (R20 for three) then cut out a 38mm dia circle, stuck it on the F3, and voila, no scratches on the glass.
  2. Hi, I hope you don't mind me weighing in here, but as far as I can deduct, you can use any supported fitness device (including Strava) to meet you activity goals...you do not need to use the Apple Watch. I say this, because the FAQ point 17 clearly states that you can gift the watch to someone else, as long as you meet your goals, the watch is free.
  3. The Apple Watch deal looked really attractive, until I delved a bit deeper into the Watch specs. Not coming from an Apple background and knowing very little about the watch, except that my daugther thinks it's the best thing since vanilla ice cream, I looked at whether it could work for anyone in my family as a fitness watch. So I went through the check list: Will we be able to reach the Vitality Active targets?....check;Do I qualify?...nope, need a Discovery Credit card, no problem can get that sorted...so check; Can the primary member gift the watch to someone else (daughter) and still get the subsidy (provided that the primary member meets his Active goals)?...check;Will the phone work with Strava...sort off, needs iPhone app...mmm...OK so need an iPhone...still not shooting it down, my contract is up for renewal and iPhone 6 is an option...so maybe a check; Will the Watch do what other fitness watches do? HRM, integrated HRM - nice...check;GPS...first oops, the Apple Watch needs the iPhone's GPS, so you need to lug the phone along on the exercise, kinda like my daughter is reluctantly doing at the moment...no check;Battery life...jury is still out, but seems to need a daily charge...no check.Waterproof...somewhat...no check So for me, I went from being excited about this, and willing to make a plan to get one, to actually wishing Discovery would offer the same terms on acquiring other sport / fitness watches as well. Deal breakers for me were: No GPS in watch; not great battery life. It sure is a pretty watch and my daughter is quite disappointed that it wont do what she wants it to do. Maybe, the next generation will tick all the boxes. Great initiative from Discovery.
  4. Thanks. That is great battery life! Good to know.
  5. Thanks for the feedback! Did you also use a HRM with the Fenix 3 for the Trans Baviaans?

  7. Thanks! Taken on top of Lady Slipper outside Port Elizabeth. I am ashamed to admit that the road to that spot is tar. I will have to redeem myself and post a pic from one of the other (edit to add: "non-tarred") peaks in Longmore Forest...

Thanks for posting! Got some nice deals for my son, who's birthday is late Oct. Hope it gets to us in time.
  10. I must admit that I was a bit nervous the first time a put three bikes on it, due to the forces the lever arm must be placing on those little plastic teeth. But I have now done this a number of times over the last two years, and over very different terrain types (tar to bumpy dirt roads), without any issues. As you are only looking to transport one bike, I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you place your bike closest to the spare wheel to reduce level arm forces. However, after reading Purnjaps horror story, also look at the other rear wheel mount systems on the link I provided.
  11. I use this one, and it works fine for me. You need to put spacers (pool noodles work well) between the bikes, to prevent them scuffing while in transit. I have transported 3 large bikes on it, and had no issues, although I mostly only transport one bike. I do find that it is a bit tricky with a fullsus where the shock is mounted to the top tube, but I am sure with a little bit of experimentation wrt bike angle and fixing position you will get it to work as well. http://www.rackandca...rrier ver 1.pdf Edit to add: It wont work with a SUV that has a shell cover over the spare wheel - not sure if the RAV has this.
  12. So far, so good. Let's see how this picture changes over the next couple of days...
  13. Oudtshoorn weather history for April. April ave min = 12 April ave max = 24 Quite lekker it seems, but if we get close to the absolutes (0 and 37) then it could be less than lekker.
  14. Apparantly, yes...(edited to add) I assume results only and not progress during. Attakwas Extreme MTB @attakwas Live streaming with @streamit360 and link on our site live results on our site http://www.atta.co.za
  15. I did it last year, and can e-mail you the gpx file if you like.

  17. Do you eat anything during the longer races? If not, get some nutrition in after 20 - 40 minutes, and keep eating something at those intervals. Rule of thumb: you need 2g of carbs per kg of body weight per hour. Find some food that works for you, and keep on snacking.
  18. Last year this time, I had been cycling for two months after a long cycling hiatus. I set myself a goal to do one race every month this year. Happy to say I accomplished that and did 14 races in all, (including bucket list Karoo to Coast and Trans Baviaans). Next year, my goals are: Attakwas, 36One, Trans Baviaans, complete as many BigYear courses in my area as I can, getting my wife on her bike again, riding more with my kids and removing the training wheels from my son's bike, learn to do more bike maintenance myself.
  19. Same thing, same place happened to my Anthem, one ride after the K2C. Only noticed it when I washed my bike after the ride. No fuss warranty frame swap from Giant, though I had to wait more than a week for the new frame. Your LBS may charge you for the rebuild.
  20. Nothing you can do training wise. Any cycling training you do now will likely just cause those mussels to still be sore on race day - same with your @rse. I would just go for a short ride to ensure my bike is still OK and set up correctly. Also use the opportunity to tick of all kit requirements. Just use mental tuffness on the day and force yourself through it. Edit: Just saw that you don't have access to the race bike, so my setup point is moot. Still check that you have all kit (water bottle, shoes, helmet, repair kits, etc). Make sure you set up the bike you will be racing on properly before the race starts.
  21. http://www.bing.com/...BKPL1&mkt=en-US Thanks, I found the location with the map link in your first post above.
  22. We will be down in the Plett area during that time and may join in. Just had a look at the FB page to try and see where in Sedgefield this is - the map link in FB is way off (nowhere near Sedgefield). The trail looks great though!
  23. I use Endomondo currently for live tracking and then later export to Strava. The two combined gives me just about everything I care about. The only thing I havent been able to do / find in a live app is to create a virtual partner / pacer. You can race against yourself on Endomondo for a route you've done before, but I would have liked the functionality to program a pacer in per set number of km or minutes for any planned ride. For example: I knew more or less what time I wanted to do per 10km of the K2C, but halfway into the race I was too tired to try and remember how I was doing relative to plan, are what I needed to do to catch up. It would have been nice to have a visual or audible prompt every so often. Staying on the K2C, a simple pacer with straight line speed from start to finish would not suffice due to some 10km sections, being much tougher / easier than others, hence the requirement for the function to be programmable. .
  24. Thanks for the list. Here are two more stage races that take place in the EC: Great Zuurberg Trek http://www.mountainevents.co.za/events/3 Fish River Sun MTB Challenge http://www.mountainevents.co.za/events/6
