  1. What is this main-tain-ens of which you speak? Most hubbers are notorious for wanting a fix an forget approach, like eskom, saa, transnet, etc
  2. I know this will add complexity, but maybe worth it in the long run. Added security enhancements can add to the overall value of the site in years to come. It is not possible to create two account types: 1 - an unverified user account: that allows people access to the hub, but without the ability to post any ads 2 - a verified trader account: that only allows verified users to create ads. Verification in the form of submission of photo ID, as well as secondary photo to help reduce the risk of stolen ID's. At least this way once an account has been blocked for dubious/fraudulent trades, that user cannot just create a new account?
  3. Has anyone considered ethics here? Maybe the the carbon repairer in question was approached by the insurance company and asked the following question: 'Can this frame be repaired in a manner that is safe and sound?' I am sure no insurance company will ask a repairer what is best for their client, only whether something can be done. A repairer who lies outright to the insurance just for the financial benefit of the insurance company's client is unethical, and somebody I personally would not want to deal with. From everything said by Bogus and Carbon Ninja, it appears the frame can be repaired in a manner that is safe and sound, so then the carbon repairer in question has answered the insurance company ethically. Whether the approach taken by the insurance company is correct is another question. Kudos to Carbon Ninja and Bogus for their feedback. Another point - surely insurance covers other failures on the frame. So if the manufacturer's warranty is voided due to the repairs, and subsequent replacement/expenditure on the frame is required, this becomes the said insurance company's problem. So they could potentially be setting themselves up for some further costs down the line. But as a consumer, you are still covered.
  4. I have a lot of respect for those willing to get involved, and I know it's the only way things will improve. But there have been many cases of people going out to help, and being gunned down. I am not discouraging people, I just worry for them
  5. I fear the day the perps decide to take the protection of their right to entitlement into their own hands and start attacking these good hearted locals for interfering with their operations
  6. Each persons experience will be different. For me, it was a could move. I am definitely happier here than I was in SA. Could I be happier elsewhere, probably won't find out - I want to settle and not be a wanderer. Best advice I can give - pick a place that you feel suits you best and go for it. It's exciting, but not something you want to do repeatedly.
  7. Glad you escaped unharmed both times Kenty is not suggesting anything about being a cowboy. His comment and mine is simple: it is sad that we as people are grateful when things get stolen, but we are not injured/killed in the incident. It is a sad sad way to live. We work hard for what we have, we should be be furious if something gets stolen, we should want better. People are unaware of how stressful this is - it just forms part of normal life. I have now been in Canada for 3 months. I have not had a single rage incident, I have not felt threatened yet, I haven't had to protect or safeguard anything. I forgot my backpack filled with groceries outside a shop. Half an hour later when I realised this I went back and found it there. This is how life should be.
  8. Saddest comment in the thread. We should not be grateful that there were no injuries, we should not just be able to replace things. This cr@p should just not happen, we should be safe.
  9. Agreed, you did say that...but at the same time you did make the comparison.
  10. I’m sure if you switched from GX to XX1 you would be equally happy. How can people possibly compare GX with XTR
  11. This is not additional, its how the route runs - cutting it short at bone breaker is not actually allowed...AND, why would you cut it short, the last 10km is the best part
  12. Used to support his shop, but my last few dealings were not up to standard so I moved to support ridgeway cycles. I just could not tell if actually did the work he said he did. Sad cos when he opened I always got great service
  13. Sometimes good enough is good enough, and sometimes it's not. Eating a McD's burger may fill the spot, but it might not be the best thing for you. Same applies to bibs
  14. Yes, because then when the Shimanos have issues or need a bleed and never feel the same again, they can sell you a new set
  15. ...PUSH YA
  16. I think you might be a bit harsh comparing the Eagle GX to XTR. The Shimano upgrade kit is a shifter and derailleur, whereas the SRAM upgrade kits includes a cassette and chain, and that's were the costs lie. And if the XO1 cassette is too costly, there are a number of alternatives which come up in every thread relating to 'is 1 x 12 worth it?' threads
  17. So let's give a negative rating to a seller trying to sell a hunk of junk described as 'in mint condition' Ratings should only be used on completed deals, or deals where a party has failed to complete obligations and the other party has completed their obligations
  18. Guide RSC's are in your budget, but you can push your budget to XT if necessary??? I think you may be looking at the price a single Guide brake set (ie 1 x lever and caliper) vs a complete brake set (ie 2 x levers and calipers) for the XT. RSC is top of the range and you will pay for that
  19. I have an edge820 and a fenix5 - both are recognized by Discovery. Your device writes into the file the device name. Discovery only recognizes certain devices. Zwift is not a recognized device (it's not a device, just software). So regardless of whether a Zwift activity hits Garmin Connect, it's not recognized. You can manipulate the file to include a recognized device, but then I'd start weighing up whether the points are worth it. As to why an edge25 is not recognized, that seems unusual. Maybe your particular activity did not load properly - this happens on occasions. All I do is export to tcx, delete the activity an upload again.
  20. Looks like a tri saddle on a road set up - this bike has an identity crisis
  21. Flame where flaming is in order. This is not olx or scumtree - its a community forum with a classifieds section
  22. if the pictures are as the wording in the ad sets out, and the price is fair/reasonable, you will have no issues and hubbers dont just bash, they also add comments when deals are good, which can help a sale as well
  23. This puts all the power in the seller's hands. In this case if the seller had shipped goods, but the buyer was being slow/lazy/refusing to pay, the seller had the right to initiate action. But this is not so here
  24. This guy can't even string a sentence together...maybe he needs the money to enroll for an English class
  25. So maybe what is worth considering is riding style. I think some big differences include: - grinding vs spinning up i.e how effectively does one use the gears - keeping momentum through corners and not needing to hammer it on exits to get speed up - keeping momentum from downhills as you transition into an uphill, and soft pedaling at the base of the uphill before getting power down as the inclination increases - are you a racer vs a weekend warrior vs a fun rider, etc This is not a comment on your riding style DnD, but rather another consideration that I never see being discussed when it comes to drive train durability
