  1. Sure, but this thread is like faceshit. Don't dare bring up anything that may not fit into the perfectly happy lives of the expat regulars. Do not be fooled, people have their shît there too.

1 - If you don't like it, don't read it.

2 - Yes we have problems to, it is different than SA and this forum gives us the chance to share our good our bad and our ugly with other cycling-loving-exZAR-newKiwis.

  2. should be TMI ( too much information )..........my Italian thinking again  :whistling:

No offence Wayne I understand why you did it, but we don't need to know all the personal details I think.........peace

Your last sentence is similar to a fat guy eating a hamburger, chips and a diet coke and them complaining about his weight...........

  3. Well put... but not sure why you guys are even bothering with replies - it's a storm in a teacup, rules is rules.

And didn't know you guys had been appointed the NZ news agency...

Glad to see most of you are adapting pretty well, it's nice to know there are options out there (life goes on and all that) if things go pear shaped here (some reckon they already have).

My long term sticking points with NZ remain though - the weather (more my wife than me, I could probably make it work, but she's complaining about winter here already and apart from it dipping under 5 degrees some nights, the days are pretty awesome still), but more importantly our families - I just couldn't do it. I guess that may be why I choose to be so optimistic about SA and see the good instead of the obvious bad.

Good luck and keep making it work

I think immigration has a lot to do with personality.  In the end you go to filter out all the noise and do what makes you happy!

I don't think that NZ is the land of milk and honey - all you do is substitute your existing problems for some new ones, you also do add to your list of wonderful experiences and memories!

  4. Not at all. Just thought it would get a mention. The end.

".....Caitlyn Davies and her father, Jonathan, arrived in New Zealand on a work visa in 2015.

A few months later Caitlyn's mother Charmaine, and then 1-year-old brother, Jonathan, arrived in New Zealand on work and visitor visas. They were granted further visas in 2016.

Caitlyn's interim visa expired in July last year, meaning she was unlawfully in New Zealand.

Since then the family has fought for her to stay in the country.

Her father works on a farm near Geraldine......"

Their Visa conditions stipulate that it is time to go.  They knew the rules when they signed up and now they would like to change it - which NZers don't allow.

There is other means for her to stay in the country (medical waiver) but with a work visa for the parents its unlikely.

Sorry to say but this is the parents fault.  What really gets my blood boiling is ZARs that demand and think they are entitled to privileges of NZ citizens - you are a guest in their land until you are a citizen.

  5. Hey Wayne - can you PM me the details of said company please

    Sweet as...

If anyone here on this thread is looking for a company to assist with moving money over and you are looking for a referral please let me know.

My wife has financially migrated and released all of her retirement annuities and policies and we received excellent service and a very very competitive price from a company based here.

  6. Based in Stratford - small little town with lots of trout in its streams    Its about 30 min from New Plymouth.

Managed to catch a glimpse of the mountain on Monday with a light dusting of snow :D

Very nice part of the world it is...

if only we could see that damn mountain, hahahaha!

there was a permanent cloud around the peak of Mt Taranaki,

But I guess on the South Island we have the same thing with Mt Cook. A colleague of mine did 5 trips from Christchurch to various sides of Mt Cook, before he actually got to see the peak.

So are you based in New Plymouth?

  7. Welcome to my part of the world :-)

Went down to Taranaki this weekend. I'm glad we left Auckland on Thursday after work during the 'cyclone'. I heard the Friday morning traffic was insane.

The weather wasn't the best, but was still a good trip.

  8. Via the Wannabees FB page - Jonkershoek open again from today. I just spoke to Hans at the gate and we may ride all areas where there are no tall trees (risk of trees falling). So we are mostly restricted to the bottom 10km loop and the right hand side. Hans is confident that after the first rain the soil will stabilize and tree falling risk will be reduced

Is the forbiden areas marked as no entry?
