  1. Guess what happened now, Sais Joubert that was selling the Scott bike I liked cancels on me this morning. He had it advertised for a week or more for R13k.

Here is his first message: Hi

Sorry i made last decision not to sell the bike anymore

I told him i am going to give a bad rating on BH he then says its ok.

Now he sends me this message:

If you willing to buy the bike for 15k you can still come view it [emoji106]

What do you guys think? Bad seller behavior or scammer?

I’d tell him where to put his bike. That’s not how you behave.

  2. It’s been said for some time now that there are many levels of quality to the products coming out of China, some are exceptional and some are cheap and nasty.

Sadly most people have only been exposed to the cheap and nasty so they assume all made in China products are that.

I’ve been a couple of times to visit factories that manufacture fitness equipment. I’ve walked the production lines of factories manufacturing world class equipment as well as factories making junk, sometimes different lines in the same factory.

It’s all about what sells and who they are manufacturing for.

  3. prices increased a bit...

Last time I had a screen replaced at an authorised service centre in SA, the cost was R150 excess on the insurance.

My last screen replacement here on a XR cost me £25 as I paid for Insurance when I bought the phone.

Similar to buying a premium bicycle and insuring against accidental damage, in order to ensure that you don’t have to replace premium components with cheap components (came from the same factory boss, I promise you) that work on the face of it, but compromise the overall quality of the bike, why wouldn’t you insure a premium phone for the same reason?

  4. You still haven't really refuted anything, all that You've said, is that you have a vested interested in disclaiming any negative press apple receives.

Nope, I’ve said that my experience in actually dealing with these companies, rather than watching a video or two on YouTube, is very different. If you choose to imply that I am lying, then that is up to you. I am unable to be more specific or to give examples, but can assure you that I have yet to meet someone external who would agree with that video that you shared.

  5. So my latest purchase and years of support pays your salary.

Good, now that we've established that you work for me you can definitely pass on the final release of macOS Big Sur and also confirm that the future Macs will have touch screens.

  6. That's a bit of an open ended statement..

bit like you saying your dick is bigger than mine... but without photos we will never Know...

[emoji23]- first time somebody ever asked for a dick pic from me.

Sorry about the open ended statement. I work for Apple and have experience of dealing with many service partners and can assure you that that’s not indicative of the relationship with most of them.

  7. Only done so they can bypass the right to repair shitstorm.

Their investment in these service centers is costing them less than what a lawsuit will cost.

Apple is just as evil as the rest of them. The only difference is the mask they wear is a more pleasing one. Just like the designs of their products.

With the volume of products that apple sells, there is no physical way that they can maintain them using only their own physical stores/repair centres. They also have a vested interest in maintaining the level of quality of repair that customers expect from a premium brand. Similar to taking my Volvo to a Volvo Garage and insisting on genuine Volvo parts, not “a part that came from the same factory but is not branded so costs less”. As a result, it is very much in Apple’s interest that repairs are done in a way that ensures that quality is maintained and that customer experience is consistent.

As far as the “evil” allegation goes, you may be surprised if you dig a bit further than a random YouTube video or two.

  8. Im not so sure of the iPhone 12 anymore, this video really shows how underhanded Apple are getting.

The implications are that only Apple can perform repairs on the phone, this doesnt sit well with me considering they can charge whatever they want if only they can do repairs.

Apple is also investing huge amounts in supporting independent small and medium businesses to become authorised service centres and has done for a long time.

  9. Settled on the bare bones model iPhone 11. Took advantage of the discounts from Apple.

It's just a phone for me. My 7 is dying on me and this will be a good replacement.

As much as I want the latest and greatest I just can justify paying that much for a phone.

That’s a great jump. The 11 is stunning.

PS. I get a few discounts per year on iPhones (and other Apple products) in the U.K. and (I think) Ireland. If someone needs one, PM me and I’ll see if I have any discounts left at the time.

  10. I started buying Kruger Rands in 2008 with my bonus and any spare cash I made from buying and selling bikes and parts.

Think it was around $800 or just under per ounce back then.

Best thing was when I left SA I just put them in my carry on bag and no cost.Nothing like trying to move Rands from a bank across the seas.

Last I bought was in 2017 and now just hanging onto what I have unless gold price drops then I might buy a few again.

I’ll sell them off when my kids go to varsity if I need to.

Only cost involved is €140 per year for my box at the bank.

That’s sort of what I’ve been doing with krugerrands. I have this idea of handing them out to grandkids on significant birthdays etc at some time in the future.

However, I have seriously been considering buying more as an investment to hedge against brexit in some way.

  11. Ok, I know this is Stuuupid, but.

I have been focusing on private work as of late (Code word for Covid has formed to do this) and have started setting up Instagram to get out my work.

It is still early days, and I can't post work I have done with my current company I work for, so have a vast array of renderings, etc that I just can't post.

This is my first IGTV upload .... it is a quick and dirty rendering of some model work I did for an Interior design company recently....but it is quick and dirty....and the music is average, but is what I have for now using windows movie editor...so this would be early days.

Social Media is not my thing, but I am going to have to work on it.

    Looks incredible

  12. I am more surprised that you are getting 0.7% on a hard currency account.

That’s about the average here at the moment. Basically going backwards. Sold a bunch of USD shares to buy a house. House purchase fell through due to issues with the property, so was left with cash. My wife wouldn’t let me buy a 1kg bar of gold to keep in the sock draw, so stuck with cash.

  13. I don't actually know much about bullion. At a guess though...

Bullion is currency free once you have a chunk of metal and a certificate, and can travel worldwide I guess, etfs are always currency tied. This is a biggie.

Bullion may come with pretty wide buy/sell prices plus steep handler(?) fees, etfs costs are minimal and standardised.

Bullion as you said you may need to secure, etfs I suppose you need to pay monthly for a trading account.

CGT? Do you pay on physical? Etfs you certainly do, thats also a big one.

CGT here is not applicable if you have Royal Mint manufactured gold or silver coins. Something to do with them being legal tender.

  14. Excellent idea. I think gold is the only thing worth having, I've become super bearish the last year or two, not just SA but the whole lot. I don't know enough about silver other than it follows a very similar trend but I don't know the finer details.

The majority of my personal investments are in gold etf's and gold miners, just for a little extra leverage. I'm also happy right now keeping ZAR exposure because I think it's only going to get weaker.

One day if/when we move I'll have to have a rethink as to what to do.

Thanks for the response. What are your thoughts about physical gold and silver? Are etf’s basically the same, but you don’t have to hide them [emoji23]?

  15. I couldn't find any topics on investing in physical precious metals, but keen to get the benefit of the knowledge base on the Hub.

I have started buying Gold and Silver Krugerrands over the past few months. Not in any huge volumes, but trying to decide whether to take savings and buy more, either coins or bars, to try and mitigate against any possible massive fluctuations in the pound around Brexit. At this stage I keep them at home, but if I had any more volume, I would pay for secure storage.

    Wondered what you guys think.
