  1.  Friday night i got an email (20:16) and sms (22:26)

Did it cross your mind at any stage that they might cancel? I can just imagine the huge disappointment you and the rest of the Epic riders must be going thorough right now just thinking of the huge investment in time training ,finances time away from the family leave from work etc etc anyway hopefully something positive comes out of this whole episode.

  2. Just make sure you all sterilize your bikes after each ride and you should be fine :whistling:what concerns me with winter approaching is when the roads are wet one has no idea what muck and bacteria is being sprayed up into your face/mouth and eyes from the road.

  3. Just heard through the grapevine that another cyclist was knocked down in a hit and run close  to Simonstown Station yesterday morning and was airlifted to hospital, very serious head injuries  operated on yesterday not sure if it was a hit and run but he was found lying in the road

  4. If you take your head out of your @rse, you won't talk so much cr@p. The part where it happened cyclists are allowed. Cyclist not at fault here.........but as I said......take your head................

He is not saying that the cyclist was at fault or,whether it is lawful to cycle in a certain area or not one has to ask is it wise for me to do so given the associated risks on certain roads and areas.

  5. you can't do certain trails until you do... It's not a grading problem it's a "being an idiot or not" problem.

Whenever I go on a black trail for the first time I always go carefully, take time to analyse each drop or rock garden to try and see the best line and if that means stop every 10m to look at it, so be it. That's how you learn and improve. For sure 1st time I went down cobra or black rhino when I reached the end I was like "hm okay that wasn't too bad" whereas when I did the conties revised for the first time  (and the few times after the first) I was like WTF, stopped numerous times to analyse most things. In between the tokai cobra was mix of challenging, but not enough to need to stop, just go slowly and process information on the go.

For me the difference between trail gradings is :

    - blue = you can go and fear nothing

    - black = you should be ready to stop anytime : doesn't mean you necessary will

    - double black = stop at everything out of the ordinary to have a good look

If you let a black grading stop you, you'll never improve. On the opposite if you think you can do all black trails because once in your life you did a black trail and it wasn't too bad, then sorry my friend, but what's happening next is what we call natural selection...

Agree totally apply common sense on every trail you ride,be it blue through to double black irrespective of ones skill level..

  6. what phone .. .sounds like a Huawei?

Nokia n7 plus whats been happening of late is my full commuting route is captured and recorded on the map but not the complete or full distance traveled,I get a message saying that GPS has been dropped for 5 minutes and I should check power optimization settings on my phone .I was wondering if there is a way to capture the km's lost seeing that the commute has been captured on the map.I have changed the battery optimization settings on a couple of my apps including Edomondo so that they are open  even when they are not in use so will see if this makes a difference this afternoon when I travel home any help would be great

  7. Hi guys just a quick question.I started recording my commutes on Endomondo from the 27 January 2020 and only realised on the 7 February 2020 that I had logged the rides under running  and not transport is there anyway that those commutes for that period can be added to the challenge or is that wishful thinking?

  8. in the good old days when there were just about no trails to ride in CT, you would ride whatever there was to ride, and if your skill level was not on par for a section you would get off your bike and walk it .... there is no shame in this.

so with this mindset I do also support slower tech trails, and if I need to walk parts then I need to walk parts ... at some point I will manage to ride them (or not) and then still ride the remainder sections that would fall within my skill set.

All that the Tygerberg club needs to do on some of their trails is simply not do any maintenance work, this will have the desired affect of making trails a lot more gnarly and technical and cost nothing to achieve..

  9. There are lost of opinions stated as facts here...

    Simple risk assessment:

    - How big is the risk of a collision for me on a specific piece of road? Where can I go to mitigate that risk?

    - Hoe catastrophic would that be for me? On my bike I’m by far the softest target on the road.

EVERY TIME I’m out on the road riding, I choose to decrease my risk. Simple. I would NEVER ride that far right when there is so much space available to the left.

I’m not blaming anyone, but sometimes being right is less important than being safe.

    MY sentiments exactly.

  10. Did you know that there is NO requirement for us to ride there.

The bus was wrong, no need for should / could.

In a perfect world it would be perfectly fine and safe to cycle just inside the yellow line but unfortunately we don't,we live in a lawless society with some people who have no respect for each other or the law,so my take is that whoever cycles so close to the yellow line is plain irresponsible and is looking to be hit by a vehicle.

  11. It is a simple matter of priority. I ride there over weekends but I also like the vibe of an event. But for this I don't need a shirt and free food. Take that out and we are back at around R1000. Which is feasible if you look at other 2 day events in WC.

SA's economy is in ***, and spare cash is scarce. People must make tougher decisions these days. Or I at least. These over-inflated event price increases are not in line with the times. If I had to make a choice I'd let go of the T-shirt and eat a home-made sandwich but get to ride the race... but that's just  me... Maybe I just have strange priorities....

I agree race entry fees are getting ridiculously expensive,I used to enter one or two races a month these days it is down to maybe three a year, the sport has become a sport for the rich

  12. Technically I have 20 x working days till I go on leave :)

Me to can't wait, and if only I had taken the time and effort to figure out how to save my morning and afternoon commutes to strava I would be able to  claim over 10 000km's of commuting for the year  maybe next year, well done to all those who were so disciplined during the course of the year crazy to think another year is almost done

  13. Funny how a burger can get this much attention.

I feel that I can have an opinion and don't need anyone to tell me how wrong my opinion is. That is your opinion. So maybe I feel that I am right, and maybe you feel you are right. Let's stop trying to show who is right and who is wrong and leave everybody to give their opinion about the race.

Well what did you expect when you post something that is so ridiculous.
