  1. and here I thought I was the only 1 going through HR monitors like there's no tomorrow.

Been through a number of Garmin monitors, some other no name brands busy killing a POLAR H10.

Absolutely hate the tiny screws on the Garmin HR monitors which seem to only be good to use once. I see the Garmin Dual has tiny torque screws on it, hopefully these are better.

Can't even recommend a specific HR monitor because they all seem to die.

Would rate the POLAR H9 or H10 better than the Garmin ones though, never tried a Wahoo.
Magene seem to make decent stuff for a good price.

Look for one that does Bluetooth & Ant+ that would be my advise

  2. I flew back from Europe last year with an empty bike bag. The bike bag was the type that's just cloth so it can fold into about half of it's size. Put tape around it and that was it.
When checking it in they did request that I take to the oversized luggage section but it arrived in SA without any problems.

In SA it was put on the conveyer belts with the other suitcases.

  3. The Edge 830 (and probably the 530) have proper batteries on them, never taken mine to 0% but they last much longer than any other previous Edge.
Since yours isn't charging properly and you doing an "upgrade" via Garmin then it makes sense to pay the extra $$$ and get the 840.

  4. Don't have a choice but to use the PO.

I did once order a bicycle light which came with a battery and that arrived via courier (came from Turkey) and was also here within 2 or 3 weeks.

Would be great if AliExpress had to use Buffalo like Shein do but they haven't got there yet.

Personally I've seen better service from PO this year, seems that closing majority of the branches has slightly help with processing packages

  5. I've ordered hundred's of items over the years.
Here and there an item got lost, mainly because of the SA Post Office but AliExpress refunded me.
Earlier this year I order some stuff and collected it from the Post Office 2 weeks later - thought the world was coming to an end.
The next order took 4 weeks but some have take 2 - 3 months - mainly because of the Post Office.

I am the same, it was not about how quickly or easy I can get the points but more of how hard it would be to get them them ill or injured.  900 is much easier to get in the what if scenario and having been ill, injured and had covid twice I have still managed to get the 900 target and currently sitting on 399 weeks streak !!

Well done on achieving 399 weeks !!!!

I'm also somewhere in the 300+ weeks streak, they even spoiled me with a T-Shirt last year.
I've been on the Endurance version where I need to get 1200 points to reach my goal, been like that for a good few years now.

  7. IMO - Wattbike was great when it came out but these days IDT have ERG mode and that is 1 of the best inventions ever making the Wattbike somewhat outdated.

If you need the motivation and commitment from a class environment then rather stay with the Wattbike studio if you are able to motivate yourself and have the discipline to train then a Smart Trainer is definitely the way to go.

Look at old carbon rim brake bikes.  With 10 speed. Going for 15 to 20k.  Not sure where you are shopping

Got to agree with you here, the asking prices are crazy (IMO). Notice that majority of it doesn't sell, 4 weeks go buy and the ad gets re-posted.

The well priced stuff (carbon rim brake with 10spd) for like R9k sell within a week or 2.

The interest rates have also had an effect on affordability, maybe the high end new market is different. Being in Winter the market also normally slows down but come Spring and with even more interest rate hikes on the way and the Rand tumbling there's probably going to be a breaking point.

LOL no. I am a Ferrari man that still supports Alonso even after he left us.

I don't really have an issue with Checo, but Max and Christian grind me up the wrong way. I respect Adrian Newey for the genius that he is.

Well when Schumi was at Ferrari it was even more boring, there was really no point in watching.

Hamilton dominated for 7 or 8 years.

Formula 1 seems to have always been this way. The team that has the best car just runs away with it.

Happy for Alonso, he's flying the "toppie" flag high at the moment, hope he can continue until the end of the season.

So let’s just let the red fools (not a typo) go race on their own on a different day for 1 and 2 in the championship, then everyone else can make racing lekker again and race for the rest of the spots. They are actually just taking up space on the track because they too damn fast. Last night was another boring race.

Guess that you aren't a Red Bull fan ???

  11. Back in the day when Navworld did the warranty exchanges it was awesome.
Walk in with a faulty Garmin unit, they would test it in front of you and if it was faulty they'd offer you a replacement or upgrade, you paid and walked out with a new unit.

When Garmin started doing their own replacements it wasn't too bad, quotes would take about 1hr.

Unfortunately these days it's a disaster.

They went from having excellent after sales service to terrible after sales service which is rather sad.

  12. I've had so many Garmin's over the years that can't probably remember all of them.

Had 2 watches fail on me and they were replaced.

The Garmin Edge is probably bullet proof, however I think the worst unit is the Garmin 820, don't know anybody that has had 1 that didn't end up sending it back to Garmin at some stage, the screen is terrible and ends up getting lines across it.
Still think the Edge 500 and the 800 are the rock solid units, still know people using these units today.

Will be like cellphones, just can't keep up and the prices just increase also don't use all the fancy new features.

Does Emperors still have that mad sprint towards a 90 degree bend at the start?

Can't even remember when last I did the Emperor's race.

The one year there was lost of crazy stuff happening in some of the intersections so I decided to skip it after that and haven't been back. Also had some friends that crashed there so now I just stay away completely from that race.

But just remember that I'm soft so rather ask somebody else's opinion

  14. Racetec no longer times 94.7 and last year the seeding at the 94.7 was like they drew your name out of a lucky packet.

I applied for a re-seeding last year and they did nothing, however some of my friends were re-seeded.

Racetec isn't has big as when when you were racing, some races have adapted the same system that 94.7 uses (a card that goes on your seat post like a racing number)

Your best bet would probably be to do those races at the beginning of Spring (like Race 4 Victory) and submit that result to get re-seeded at 94.7.

I think Emperor's is still coming up, that would also probably help.

94.7 have always done their own seeding but now since the new organizers took over it's a bit more of a lucky packet.
