A slight head-wind going up a hill can have a cooling effect that is better than when it’s from behind; for me, that is.

That's because you climb faster than a mountain goat !!!
Can't even ask you for a push because these idiots reseeded me and then left my number the same

Must say this year the organizers have really F%$#ED everything up and it's with low entry numbers, imagine if 20k people had entered.

Coming from the Nasrec Road off-ramp,  directions to the parking were non-existent. I took a wrong turn and added 2km to my drive.

I never made a booking, so I hope it didn’t take someone’s slot, as I squeezed in far left (CSA officials) to get my number.

My bib number doesn’t match my frame (timing board), so I hope it doesn’t have an effect on my time. Also, with the seeding change, I lost my personalized number along with a few completed events.

I forgot to take my timing board with, so I hope it still belongs to me.

I got there at 09:14, walked a mile in my own shoes, tried to find my name on the list of 20+ events. It wasn’t in any logical order, so I decided to Keep Walking🚶🏻‍♂️

By 09:34 I was back in the car, ready for the next adventure… driving to work.

I’m sure the VA-branded bottle received will stay in my bottle cages, as they’re as really good cages. Hope I don’t have to dodge these on the road on Sunday.

I went through the expo, and set the provisional fastest time on the segment. Hope my KOM stands for the day. Today wasn’t Black Friday, so I hope that doesn’t affect their sales.

They reseeded me and when I fetched my number I was still in F, so the reseeding was a waste of time.

Scanned my timing board and it still belongs to me but yes the shirt number is different.

Looking for your name is a complete mission, everything is mixed up, eventually found mine though.

The expo was nothing exciting. Just spoke to the TechnoGym guys and asked if their new fancy bikes will be going into Virgin Actives and the guy said that VA have already bought 69 units with a bigger purchase planned for 2023. Showed me what you can do on that bike.

With only 222 entries in the open seeded groups for the 102Km, you will be given the option to start in A, B, C or D.

Honesty seeding. Time starts when you cross the mat.

A will be promoted as a group for those wanting to race, then optional thereafter.

    Gee that sucks.
Numbers seriously down compared to 2019
Suppose you'll have to build them up again

  4. Still can't find an excellent deal on an Ultegra 11 speed groupset (2nd hand) so the boom isn't over.

Lots of items selling in the classifieds within hours, so people still have money.

Later we'll hear by how much interest rates will increase, needs to be minimum of 75 basis points but should probably be 100 basis points.

good if you have money in the bank, bad if you have lots of bad debt.

Hopefully in a few months there'll be some deals around

Tomorrow could be a good day to get Roglic back on the podium and finish Tadej.

jonas will be best placed even though he had to go deep he wasn’t over the limit. UAE will need to control tomorrow but I don’t see it happening. Jumbo look strong and well drilled after their game of musical bikes last week

edit: Roglic came in at a pedestrian 10min behind so is now 13min back. Looks like he’s GC ambition for tdf podium 2022 is over.

Was thinking that Jumbo might send Roglic in a break up the road to see if he can make it onto the podium. That would also force UAE, Ineos and others to chase the break as it's so tight for 2nd & 3rd but with 10min down it might be too much to ask for.
Suppose Jumbo can just defend, which team has the fire power to take them on - none !!

  6. A lot of Kickr's out there and apparently there after sales service is great.
I've never had an issue with my Kickr so I've never used their after sales service.

The Tacx Neo is also a great trainer.

If you can get a Neo, get the Neo otherwise get a Kickr.

The Saris have an bad reviews, don't know if they've fixed their issues.

    Dischem Ride For Sight (BL)

    Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Some of your friends were wearing the wrong kit 😉
When Vukani joined at 7km it got a lot more dangerous, those guys almost caused numerous crashes.
    Luckily I finished safely.
Didn't know there had been a crash at about 40km, good thing I was towards the front of the bunch.
I know a cone went flying behind me towards Carnival City and heard that was a crash near the finish line. The one guys was still shaking after crossing the finish line.

  8. I had a look at the route but figured that it was going to be dangerous and I don't even live in that area. If they had gotten full road closure then I would have entered but sharing the roads with all that traffic is probably going to be a nightmare, especially coming back.

those that decide to do the race, STAY SAFE !!!!

Again thank all for their contributions to this topic.

So far my mind is at Garmin or Lezyne and the smaller units are well worth it.

Then there are people saying use your phone, the problem with that it is big and the readings like gps is not always that good. I personally am using my phone atm and want to change that.

The other option I have seen is to get a watch like the forerunner, this way it is multi purpose. The only thing is that you will not have a screen to have a peak at.

You can get a mount and put the watch on the handle bars, like that you have a screen in front of you. Obviously a watch doesn't have as many data fields on the screen as the computer but you can always setup multiple screens and have it auto scroll.

  10. There's only 1 and that's a GARMIN !!!

Normally there's plenty in the classified section.

Should you want to buy new them the Garmin 130 or the PLUS is the starting point.

However you can get something like a Garmin 510 for about R2k, it has a touch screen & Bluetooth.

The Garmin 520 is an excellent device as well, millions sold in South Africa, slowly people are moving onto the new 530.

Garmin also has good after sales service (don't know how the others are though)

Thanks to everyone for your responses, so the just of it is that you need to eat less energy than you using. So will this teach your body to use the fat as energy on your ride instead of using sugar and carbs?

To use fat as fuel you'll need to avoid carbs so that your body starts using fat as a fuel.
You can loose weight using fat as a fuel and you can loose weight using carbs as a fuel, back to Calories IN vs Calories OUT.
If you over eat on Keto you'll gain weight as as with eating carbs.

GCN on YouTube did an episode some time back where the presenter switched to a Keto diet for a few weeks. Search for it as you might find it interesting.

  12. Power are more accurate than Hear Rate zones but if you don't have a power meter then you can use HR zones.
To get your Power Zones you'll have to do a FTP test
To get you HR Zones you'll have to do a LTHR test (both tests can be done at the same time)

Alternately if you want to avoid some pain and the taste of blood you can work out your HR Zones from your max HR.

The harder you ride the more your body will look for carbs to use as fuel

  13. Everybody is different and you need to figure out what will work for you

I can do a 70km ride in a fasted state without any problems but I need to eat carbs during the days otherwise there's no power in the legs to climb

Keto / using fat for energy doesn't work for everybody and it normally only works if you doing Zone 2 riding, should you decide to spend some time in Zone 4, 5 & 6 then normally carbs are required.

Basic principle is Calories IN vs Calories OUT

  14. This request has been making it's rounds on some WhatsApp groups but nowhere is there an explanation on why they are requesting the information.
I heard that a few people ended up in hospital because of coming down there but don't know if it's related or not.

When I went past that spot the Police were telling everybody to slow down and pay attention to that gap, however the gap was filled with something.

Anybody else having issues with their gym tracker? My gym visit count dropped from 60 to 32 all of a sudden (with January all of a sudden showing zero visits where it previously had around 12). Only 1 of 13 August swipes have been recorded. (My workouts are all in excess of 30 min although there isn't any facility to swipe on exiting the gym so the 30 min workout duration shouldn't even come in to play)

Yes I'm also having issues with the Gym Tracker. Did call Vitality last week and they said that they are aware of the problem.
Today nothing seems to work on the Discover App.

  16. Would have been interesting to test the hub against FB Marketplace.

For specific bike parts like cranks, pedals, etc I think the hub would still be in 1st place but for complete bikes I think that it might be neck and neck with Marketplace.

As a buyer it's great to have various options though but the down side is that you have to look in 4 different places.
