  1. Stevie L - better get the shotgun ready! Those eyes are going to have many a boy weak at the knees!
  2. Well, they want to be treated as equals everywhere else, so they can do an equal share of pacing in the bunches.

    Polar RCX5

Do you really think polar is 3 yrs behind garmin? The garmin 910xt looks remarkably like the old polars - 625 and 710...
  4. My brand new XTR brakes do exactly the same, front and rear! Changed discs and pads (all brand new) and still no luck. I heard and read that the XTR brake system is one of the best there is, but at this stage, I'm not convinced. Also, I have to pull the lever right up to the handlebar before I even start to slow down.
  5. Won't help if they stab you in the face, will it? We do all out group rides on that road and some of the weaker riders, mostly women, fall off the back. That won't happen again. My missus and her colleague were some of those lagging behind...
  6. One of our cyclists in Potchefstroom was attacked on the Eleazer road just outside Potch. It is a quiet rural road with relatively little traffic. Ikageng squatter camp is about 2km away from the road... Injuries and other detail not yet known. Looks like no-where is safe from these faarking savages...
  7. I'm going to have a look-see with the roadbike on the 84km...
  8. Gnarly, you were right: The Scott Sark 29 Pro goes for R33400, the Expert is R26400 and the Elite is R18400. The Pro and the Elite have the carbon frame and are well specced.
  9. Anton, I think you should invite rob-the-nob on something like the Attakwas, or maybe the Cape Pioneer and see how he goes? You should finish in the top 5, seeing that it is piss-easy, according to him...
  10. Hi mountainchild. I've done three and completed two - the last one in 19H23. The most important is to get your head right - being alone in the desert at 2 o'clock plays headgames with you. Don't go too hard in the first 3 stages - save some energy for stage 5 along the pipe-line! Stage two and three are the hardest as far as the route goes, but 4 -6 is hard on your body and mental state. I usualle stay in Arbbusch lodge in Windhoek, about 1.5km from the start. In Swakop you will struggle with acommodation as it is peak tourist season. There are some camping options and there is a reasonably nice municipal resort of sorts. Any other questions: sias.leroux2@harmony.co.za . Cheers. Sias
  11. i got the qoute from Park Fietswinkel in Potch. He gave me the full brochure with the prices of the whole Spark range, starting at R52900 for the Spark RC 29... He qoutes the Elite at R18600 and the Pro at R26000. I'll just go and check again this afternoon...
  12. Scott Spark 29 Elite at about R22000 or the Pro at about R26000. Full suspension with Twinlock system and XT/Deore groupset.
  13. Wonder what he is thinking...
  14. Actually Slowbee, I don't think the international riders will fall for this much longer... Flights, acommodation, race entry etc. could easily run into R60-70000 if you come from Europe. At R10.26 for the Euro, it works out at about 6500 Euro, which is a LOT of money for them.
  15. The race has lost its sole - it's got no feet to stand on...

    Attakwas 2012

Aaww, thanks Velouria! No man, I'm a half roadie! I wouldn't know if it was the full route or not, but it was tough! Not bragging, sorry if that was the impression!

    Attakwas 2012

Hahaha, well done everyone that finished! The Cape Pionneer Trek of 2010 used the Attekwas route as its first stage and we managed that OK and then had to ride another 100km the next day. And the following 5 days... Not that hard if you train well.
  18. Sounds like you ARE an agent or distributor hiding behind an anonymous nickname, not manning up and saying what you have to say in your personal capacity...
  19. Looks like No Calves finished in either 18:44 or got a DNF, depending on his surname... I managed a 19:23. Cactus - if you've done 4 Epics, the Dash should be a walk in the park...
  20. Which bike should I bring - 26" ds or 29" ht? Doing the 75km...
  21. Mmmm... I have the 725 Polar for well over 4 years now and not a single problem. It gets used every day.
  22. Took them three weeks to deliver my XTR groupset and when they did, it had XT brake calipers! Another two weeks to fix that...
  23. Do it yourself and save yourself some trouble.
  24. I-Fly - I saw Dan at the 1st CP with his bike, having a beer! I thin I passed Adele at some stage - she looked like Pippy Longstocking from the back with her ponytails! If I am correct you rode stage three? By that time the wind had died down somewhat. Going down the pass, I could only manage 76km/h due to the headwind. My total ascent for the race was 2310m or something. If you consider that Windhoek is only 1800m above sealevel, it means the race was uphill! The vehicles left stage 4 after 10km and the changes in the route meant we did not have so much dust in stages 4,5 and 6. Also, the block headwind/side wind also took the dust away quicker, compared to last year's comparitively windless stages where the dust would just hang in the air. The pipe-line was an absolute shocker, especially if you have already got 280km in your legs! How about the solo next year?
  25. Well, she can roll something else with her thighs...
