  1. Wes, I live in Wellington. It is awesome here. Wind blows on average about 60km/h and there are LOTS of hills. Auckland weather is much like Cape Town. 4 seasons in one day. Wellington is more consistent. Wayne, if you are keen to check out Wellington, PM me and I will send you my mobile number. Thanks
  2. The top looks like a Newcastle and Juventus football club.
  3. In the past I have had Mavic's and Eastons. Both great wheels, but I did find the Mavics on the heavier side. I preferred riding the Eastons until I discovered Fulcrums. I find the Fulcrums to be a good all rounder wheel.
  4. I generally take my hand off the bar, leave it parallel to the bar and I stretch my fingers. Times I nod my head, if the road is too busy or many cyclist around. Other times I ignore, for safety reasons or if I am concentrating/in a zone.
  5. When one adds pedals, computer and bottlecages, the weight could still be under 5kg's. Impressive.
  6. Got rid of my clinchers last year September. Since thenI only ride with tubbies. Have not regretted the switch. In approx 8000km's I picked up 3 punctures. Two of those punctures came from tires that were worn out. After close inspection I could see tire carcass coming through the rubber. The other puncture came from the conti giro tubby. I do not recommend that tire as my experience was it is not a positive. I currently use gatorskin sprinters and I am happy with them. I don't use any sealant. Don't understand why people are so afraid of tubbies. Count how many times you puncture a year. That number you can probably count on one hand. I strongly recommend switching to tubbies.
  7. Here is a suggestion, not sure if it is possible. In order to have a bank account open, one needs to be FICA approved. Try calling the bank and see if you are able to get his fica information or find out what is the process for getting his information.
  8. I hope that this is not just another scam. If so, where has the trust, integrity and honesty gone.
  9. Beautiful pic
  10. Solomons has them on special for R2000. They normally retail around R3500. Awesome helmet

  16. I visit and support a LBS that is passionate about cycling, knows the products and not a bunch of money grabbers. That is my opinion of Cajees. I find the Cajees shops dirty and dark. Maybe it is the blue/gray carpets blended with the blue cupboards. The bike mechanics only know the bare basics about servicing/building a bike. We all have spent thousands on our pride and joy, are you prepared to take your bike to an amateur for a service/repair, in the "hope" that you will save couple of hundred rands? The discounts I receive from my LBS is much cheaper than Cajees, why cause I have built a relationship with them. Cajees does have their place in the market. I classify them in the kid bikes/entry level market and emergency spares like bombs, tubes, tires, cables, etc.
  17. I do not understand why cyclists support them. We all know that their service and prices on bike gear ain't satisfactory, so why do we support them?

    Tubbies

I simply carry an extra tubbie. I have heard (not experienced it yet) that it is quicker to replace a tubbie than a clincher tube. Personally I would not trust a sealant when riding at 40km/h or even worse going downhill at 60km/h + on a "patched tire". Anyway, if you experience the unfortunate circumstance of puncturing during a race, your race is esstentially over. Whether it takes you 2 minute or 5 minutes to replace the tube\tubbie you lost the bunch, then it is simply a ride to the finish. Enjoy the vibe, have a boerie on the side of the road, drink a beer etc.

    Tubbies

Hey Guys/Ladies, I have made the transition from clinchers to tubbies about 3 months ago. I have a pair of Rolf's 38 TDF with Conti Sprinter Gatorskin that I use sometimes for training but mostly for races. My training wheels are Fulcrum Zero's tubbies that I use mainly for training and on occasion I might even race with them (Jock, Kremetart and Stage 1 &3 of the Panorama). They currently have the entry level Conti tire that is a Conti Giro. About 2 weeks ago on my training ride the Conti Giro developed a nipple on the centre surface. Took it to my LBS and they exchanged it no problem. It was a defect in the tire. One question that you should ask yourself, how many times do your puncture a year? I ride about 10k kilometers a year and my average punctures per year is approx. 2 maybe 3. That is between 3-5k kilometers that I would puncture. Another fact regarding tubbies, they can take higher pressure (11-12 bars), where as a clincher generally can only go up to (8-9 bars). That means that the tubbies will be a harder ride and the fact that they can take a higher pressure they will be more resistant to punctures. Btw, I do not ride with slime. It defeats the purpose of riding tubbies and I have heard that it is a nightmare to maintain it. To conclude, i cannot see myself returning back to to clinchers. I feel that these tires I have chosen are about the best puncture vs. cost vs. quality perspective.
  20. Look at the Santini's. They are also super comfy and last for years. I purchased my Santini's back in 2009 and they still look and feel great.
  21. The organizers will try to maximize on the entry fee. At the end of the day it is our choice whether we are prepared to pay that price or not. Events like the argus (I am from JHB) jock, ofm, amashova, etc. to me are not worth riding. The logistic and accommodation costs does not justify riding a 100km race, jock 150km. I personally prefer doing the panorama tour has that is 4 days of quality riding and probably costs less than the races mentioned above. There is no use in complaining, just don't enter the race. It is a simple choice, but we cyclists choose to ignore them. Yes, I was/am a victim of this (more than once).
  22. What an awesome race. It was an extremely hot day. When I was riding back to my car I was flipping through my Garmin screen and the temperature was 39. It was great to race again, I certainly missed the competitiveness. My only disappointment is the goodie bag. The pamphlets which goes straight to the bin. What has Tac crackers got to do with cycling?
