  1. bikemax has all the answers All this talk bodes well for my scrawnyness even if i'm not totally convinced
  2. if cardiovascular efficiency is the only limiting factor in cycling and not muscle strength, why is a pro woman that is of equal size to a pro man (ie same size lungs and heart) def not equal in cycling ability..
  3. I would recommend not mixing gym/'leg strengthening' exercises with cycling to help avoid cramps, espec in calves. eg calf raises. Even hard hiking to some extent! The the way the muslce contracts in cycling is different to these other activities and may contribute to confusing the 'spring' that controls muscle tension, even after just riding for a short period. A bit controversial, but streching all the muscles in the legs before you go to sleep at night may help the nightly cramps. Some people say stretching helps nought while others live by it. The other thing is, if you start cramping in the upper legs towards the end of a ride, it usually means you not used to the distance or intensity and need more training.
  4. However, the race was marred by serious traffic transgressions by the Elite racing group. ?As a consequence, the Tour D? Winelands has, with immediate effect, withdrawn the results of the Elite men?s racing group from this past weekend?s event,? he said. ?This has been at the request of PPA and the Cycle Tour Trust, following serious infringements of the traffic regulations. The results will be withdrawn until such time as the investigations into the transgressions have been completed.? ?The Pedal Power Association and Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust cannot condone the flagrant disregard of the traffic regulations and safety that the elite cyclists displayed at Sunday?s Tour D? Winelands. Despite being warned that they were disobeying the traffic regulations by cycling on a number of occasions in the yellow line of the right hand lane and endangering themselves and other road users, they continued this practice on a few occasions up until the finish line.? Photographs of this type of riding is evidenced on several email and web forums, including https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=8617. ?As a consequence, all the results of the elite men?s group will be suspended until the matter has been investigated and the transgressors identified. To this end, we would appreciate anyone being able to identify the cyclists in the photographs and informing us by e-mail at info@pedalpower.org.za,? concluded Bellairs.
  5. very nice. 'we' can test it out on the next uct training ride..
  6. Not hard' date=' but are you willing to pay the cost of all the cops and vehicles to do it?[/quote'] the entry fee for this race was the almost the same as the argus/94.7, which has full road closure. so yes, we did pay
  7. I think sponsors get more out of sponsoring a team than an event or a league. The sponsorship usually lasts the whole calender year - which gives the brand max time to get known by the riding public.
  8. yes - RK were pretty dominant in the DC. To break 5.5hrs is serious riding. i doubt moolies will ever be seen dead riding in the SV league group , even when he's 50!! (i know he does vets tours, but that only when there is no elite section)

  17. yes. andrew mclean was pretty embarressing when he kept interrupting the others (espec the last 5k) and thinking he knew more than anyone else about everything..should have just kept his mouth shut and then we could have heard p & p a bit more..anyway, at least owen was kept at the start line out of the way and how was arnie's 'joke' when he said the weather was like the pop goup - wet, wet, wet ~ WEAK
  18. sounds like a tough day. I went training after the race for some extra DC mileage and got absolutly drenched!! thought I was going to get struck by lightning too as it was forking all around me. luckily no punctures for me tho..
