  3. i wonder what has happend to Paddy Agnew. At least he new what a bike race was..ans yes - all is forgiven for andrew and owen with the current debacle. looks like he has gone to soccer: It is Italy's passion for the sport that is examined with great eloquence, insight, style and wit in Forza Italia - A Journey In Search of Italy and Its Football, a new book by Irish journalist Paddy Agnew. Agnew has lived in Rome for more than 20 years and is the Vatican correspondent for the Irish Times, one of the leading daily newspapers in Ireland. So, what does a self-described "Northern Prod" who covers the hallowed Vatican beat know about Italian soccer? Well, quite a bit actually. On top of his duties for the Irish Times, Agnew has served as an English-language commentator on Serie A matches for state broadcaster RAI for the past 15 years and has covered Italian soccer for a slew of other news organizations. Agnew has closely followed calcio, the Italian word for soccer, since moving to Rome in 1985 and has gained a reputation as one of the top experts on the Italian game. maybe too many drugs in cycling for his likingZippIt2007-05-14 01:34:56

from website: The primary aim of the event is to create an opportunity for those nations where cycling is not considered to be a major sport to qualify riders and teams for the Olympic Games, and for this reason, it is an event that is normally staged the year prior to the Olympics. It has a secondary objective to allow those riders from these nations who do not qualify for the Elite Championships or who may not be able to have an opportunity to ride for a fully professional team in ongoing competition an opportunity to compete against other riders of a similar level. It is also seen as a development event where young, up and coming riders can test their mettle and be identified as potential stars of the future. this may answer a few q's

Umm..I didn't say I wanted to be a selector, I'm trying to establish what selection criteria are in place for those aspirational people that want to make the team. eg in rugby you have to first be in a Super 14 team to make the springboks..

how do 'they' select a team for these championships? Is it an accumulation of points or wins over a season on the local/national front?, is it how they faired in a tours such as girodelcapo? Is is the top 1 or two riders from each province? (ie riders that medaled in their provincial champs). Is is a rider who has previous national team experiance so is on their database for quicker contact? maybe the b in B-worlds was interpreted as only blacks? what about the national seeding ladder? as the host country can SA have 2 teams? has anyone requested this? Is it 'who you know' out of the selectors? I'm just interested so I know what I have to do incase I want to get selected next time because I have consistently faired better than many of these riders on the list in the last year and I havn't even done anything special. ie there are LOADS of better riders out there! Why doen;t SA want to have its best team at this race?ZippIt2007-05-07 12:13:24

    helmets?!

A spectator at the Tour de Georgia has been paralyzed from the waist down after crashing on the descent of Brasstown Bald whilst visiting stage five last Friday. According to Atlanta Authorities, Thomas Kinnebrew from Helena, Arkansas was wearing a helmet but suffered severe head and spinal injuries after hitting a rock embankment. On Saturday he was described as being critical but stable at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, Georgia
  10. yes - srm power meters..

  12. did anyone pick up the april fools joke in the April Bicycling - quite clever..
  13. I think the main idea with a proper vest - NOT the one from mr price/woolworths that does not work properly! - is to lower the extremes ie helps to cool when hot and warmer when cold. Lowering the extremes helps prevent getting sick. That material is amazing! drop some fluid and it and it compeletly disperses it over a large surface area, similar to calrton paper that you use to 'suck' up spillages on a carpet. other advantages are if you stop riding or after a race you don't pick up a chill also if you crash the extra layer of material stops that bad road rash on your body. What doesn't work is wearing a t-shirt under you cycling top - summer or winter...

'them' you mean 'him' - the hub is run by a one man show..

  18. Lourens has said many times that he is not interested riding tours - and the team does what he does. (He also took work off to go and ride overseas last year.) Moolman rode the PPA vets 3day tour in about sept that had a friday afternoon stage

  20. OMW - just had my wallet and phone and team mates phone stolen out of the car at the funride this am!!! WHAT A MISSION and the funny thing is the car was locked and no sign of forced entry!
  21. immature (in terms of body development) 23 year old..I'm told I look more like 18
  22. Might be possible at 195 (92% of 210 ish) but look a little high. my max HR is 210 so it is possible, something to do with low blood pressure makes you have a higher max. But my threshold is about 193, so 195 to 205 seems high
  23. 2007 Campagnolo Hyperon Wheelset $2599.00 I think these are up there with the most expensive you can buy.. 2007 Lightweight Ventoux Tubular Wheelset Item: LIG104 Weight: 950.0g $5,500.00 http://images.competitivecyclist.com/images/global/clear.gif The Lightweight Standard and Obermayer wheelsets are incredible for climbing --
  24. the disc wheels they make now are pretty similar in weight to normal wheels -eg Zipp disc = 930g I think the campy one is even lighter.. The legal rim depth limits for road races are 808 (= 81mm) on the rear and 404 (= 58mm) on front (i think) The main advantage with deep section wheels is that the spokes are shorter and the part of the spoke that is moving fastest is closer to the hub - so in effect the fastest moving part of the wheel is also the most aero being solid. Also the fact that the air entering the the front wheel is not disturbed as much and the are leaving the rear wheel is smoother Not sure about the Darren Lill thing because the only TT in the giro is a hill climb
  25. Look have definatley got it right with the Keos - I have had mine for almost two years and the bearings are still smooth and cleat wear is tiny.. nor are they overpriced
