  1. Get yourself a pair of cleat shoes that have soles and can be walked in easily like the first ascent Traverse: https://www.firstascent.co.za/traverse-mtb-shoe Then get pedals that have the clips one side and flats the other side. With the shoes above you can comfortably klap the tech on the flats uncleated and then clip in and spin away on the non tech.
  2. ya a strong core goes a long way.. Anyone had experience with the Brooks Hyperion? I am looking for a race shoe for up to marathon distance, I had the TR7's and loved them, the Hoka's are still gonna be y training shoe but was thinking of trying the hyperion for a bit of speed. Are they as good as the TR7's or is there something better out there?
  3. so who's all running where and what this weekend? We sneaking down to cathedral peak challenge, should be an enjoyable run...
  4. Similar but not the same. For me it was more when racing motorbikes, you get helmets and you get helmets. There the quality of the shell, the strap and clip mechanism are important. For racing you are only allowed metal D-ring fastenings no plastic clip straps like you see on almost all mtb helmets, carbon composite shell vs plastic shell etc. Did your helmet pass DOT, SNELL and ECE 22.05 or was it just one of the ratings? What SNELL level is it? SA2015 EA2016? Like I said more applicable to motorcycles but worth a ponder...
  5. and then you read about things like CTE(Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and you really start spending extra on helmets and being more safe...
  6. very different runs hey, karkloof flat and fast and all runable, this will be more like skyrun, technical and steep and high altitude.
  7. yup, if you know Hilton you will know it will be a proper run... This is the guy that comes to Wartrail challenge, beats us all to Balloch(55km), then continues on to do a full 100km Skyrun for fun...
  8. If you are commuting with the light and not commuting really really far, pop your battery into an old water bottle and put a spacer like pool noodle around it to stop rattling and then use the front bottle cage to hold it, rear bottle cage for water. There was a company making huge rechargeable water bottle batteries at one stage as well.
  9. I must say I have also felt they feel a bit sluggish, but on longer runs I feel less aches and pains during and after the run so I guess it is a compromise. I think for up to marathon distance racing there are definitely faster shoes, but for training and for longer races they are awesome.
  10. How do the trail runners manage then? Everyone will lose the same 15 mins, or you just wear a running pack?
  11. crossfit healthy? Obviously you have not seen the horrible form of lifts which often lead to injury or read anything on rhabdomyolysis.
  12. they should rather maybe stop looking at the entry side and start looking at the tons of plastic waste the competitors are going to litter over the route #ICarryMyOwn
  13. So I was flicking channels on the weekend, and I know it is not friday but..... How stupid is Reebok claiming their champion as the fittest man on earth... Really? Best crossfitter yes, but fittest on Earth?
  14. Whatsapp share live location...
  15. Herbalife had to pay $200 mil to settle/avoid a pyramid scheme case in 2016, anyone supporting them still deserves to lose their disappointment. Maybe it only works with power balance bracelets...
  16. Something someone once said and it stuck with me, most people slowly put on weight over a few years and then expect to lose it in weeks or months. It is like getting lost, if you walk for years in the wrong direction, expect to walk for years in the opposite direction to get back to where you were. You are in it for the long run so settle in and chip away at it for years, Rome was not built in a day.
  17. clicked order on some parts just before 7am this morning, parts delivered at 14:20, impressive service and a new fan to say the least
  18. WCAD is going to be like the Cyanosis race where potentially 8 diff teams had a fighting chance at the win or a podium...
  19. So the Adventure 1 Series is really hotting up hey... Next race as the post above states in in the Cape. A few top teams have lost out on big points and now have to score at the last 2 rounds of the event if they want any chance which means some teams along with the Kinetic Full Moon series will be racing 3 races between now and world champs. Also a side note- only 2 or 3 out of the top 10 are not sponsored teams
  20. Kaapsehoop is on the radar/calender for me as well, just so I have a marathon qualifier is I get the urge to become a 'real runner' next year... Sadly again it will be racing on back to back weekends with Full Moon the week before... Sometimes I envy pure runners, training must be so much more focused hey
  21. Had feet up all week, went for a wattbike session yesterday to loosen the lgs, will hit a hill session later and test the legs after weekend. Anyone else get serious case f the munchies post race? according to woolworths serving suggestions I am 4 - 6 people most weeks after a race...
