  1. apparently Roger cracked his frame. Caught a taxi to get the steel frame welded in matatiele and then continued. Hard core!
  2. Do you not think head under a tap and fill 1 cup would be as quick? or a happy medium? Ya bins work when people use them, but inevitably even if you had a bin every 5 meters someone would miss. One of the posts showed bales or waste at a landfill and multiple skips of rubbish waiting to be collected, it is just such a waste for nothing. It could be an epic sales pitch comrades raises money and has a 10000l jojo tank every few kms at water points and after the event the tanks go to schools or hospitals. Far better thn skips full of empty bags and cardboard boxes post race. Cycle races we are happy to refill bottles what is different with a run? Same goes for rugby matches, plastic cups when you could take your own 500ml tankard and get refills rather. Maybe I am being an optimist, then again I buy milk from a place where you take your own Bottle and it costs a lot less...
  3. Man I felt for Roger, that was a lot of time lost and extra km's. I think Leon from Batch 3 might push through to glen edward this evening, he left Allendale at like 1am but also lost at least 2 hours in the dark with Navigation. He should be at Ntsikeni in the next half hour. Angela Green has also given herself plenty extra km's already in the last few days
  4. So I have a friend or two that have posted a few things about the rubbish left after comrades and how bad it actually is. It is disgusting actually. What are your thoughts on the #Icarrymyown campaign, basically have tanks with taps at water stations and you carry a cup or bottle to refill along the way, not litter, no plastic waste. Carry a cup like this: https://www.salomon.com/int/product/soft-cup-speed-150ml-5oz.html?article=393899 I know KZN Trail running is moving to no plastic cups and no bags of water how long till the big races follow?
  5. KOM hunting is only fun when you personally know the guy you are taking it from... We have a friend who had a few KOM's in a running spot, he moved to NZ and the day he left he was given a new Suunto watch by another friend, who also then made his run from the previous day public and took all the guys KOM's for that running park when it was too late for him to get them back before leaving for NZ.
  6. There are some epic stories around... Like Iain that ran a 6h56min for his first comrades, after klapping a 4h39min Durban Half Ironman last weekend...
  7. You must try lead out a mtb race on an enduro motorbike, you have to find yourself gaps in the really tight sections and on some of the downhills they still close that gap seriously all while making sure you and them are on the marked route. Good fun though,
  8. Jouberts Pass above lady Grey, think it is 7km 8,5% one way and 11% 2km up the other way
  9. The million dollar question... Who get to pedal it at Munga?
  10. Not the pioneers of GPS, but the pioneers of measuring digital geospatial information and certainly world leaders in surveying equipment and terrestrial scanners. GPS is technically the satellites above our heads which were designed and built and run by the US government. Here is an interesting idea/thought, until other positioning constellations were launched if the USA decided one day to encrypt the GPS message/signal all of our devices would have been made entirely obsolete. Not sure if they could have done it in terms of execution due to practicality but in terms of logical thought patterns it should be possible.
  11. Man that bike is a thing of beauty hey, those curves and those welds, fapworthy. I am jealous of whoever gets to pedal this badboy for Munga, S*** I may need to upgrade frame now...
  12. You should really be asking- 'Why am I bothering considering riding 947, there are far more interesting races to do in this country than ride the same roads you sit in traffic in week in and week out on' #flamesuit-on
  13. I went with the XT 1x11 upgrade kit from CWC for under 3k last year and haven't looked back, I see they have the GX upgrade kit for 5k now so add in a front chainring and you good to go.
  14. That would make an epic door handle into a pain cave #justsaying
  15. So this is something I started a few years back, and seeing as I don't ride much due to running it has helped me a lot, anything under 30km no bib/cycling shorts, if it is an hour or 90min on indoor trainer or just a quick spruit ash then I cycle in normal running shorts. It is really not that bad and you get used to it quick but then when you put on cycling shorts for a 100+km ride your bum is a bit tougher...
  16. if you do lance it, get the doc to inject some Merthiolate back into the blister, 10 points if you don't touch the ceiling....
  17. If you gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough, when you get knocked down you gotta get back up, now I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but I know If you gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough...
  18. Was running in the area yesterday and saw no bottlenecks for the guys riding it late yesterday afternoon, haha wonder what entry fee was for them
  19. The first ascent X-trail rain jacket is a solid option, Mine was good for 20 odd hours in the rain at karkloof 100 miler, done many other AR events, not the warmest jacket but keeps you dry and folds up super small
  20. I see the facebook page "What a time to be alive" posted a hilarious guide to Ironman 70.3 Durban this morning
  21. and more often than not once the blue smoke is released. . . . . . . . game over...
  22. Its not technical and one of these years Walmsley will reach the finish line...
  23. dunno about electronic speedo, but make sure you get the right size so your nuts don't pop out... And on a more serious note, the usual ones you get for R150-300 are ok but they are not that reliable and always bump the pickups so you end up fiddling with them a lot. I would look at a gps training device as opposed to a speedo, the basic garmin is like 2k.
  24. Well done to all the guys that raced it looked like a rough one this year, not going to lie there were one or two evenings where I was glad to be in bed and not in the mountains. You know it is a proper adventure when during it you want to be back home and afterwards you want to be back out there... Some Notables- Rustproof had a very sick team member leading up to the event, so much so they were considering a replacement, he pulled through and considering the circumstances leading up to it they did an excellent job to get a full team, full course Finnish. King Price Insurance! For those that don't know this team did not have a single member until 2 weeks before the race, literally on the 7th of may or somewhere the original team had all pulled out and one of the media crew started phoning around to put the team together. When I got the call it was a bit late so I was unfortunately unable to race due to work otherwise I would have raced with them. Just stop and think about that, 560km expedition race with 2 weeks prep, they not only raced, but at one stage they were in top 3 and they ended up 11th overall. Parallel for passing a whole bunch of teams on the last 2 legs again this year, if they raced at the pace of the last 2 legs for the whole race I think some top teams will be nervous...
  25. I learned to go to the doc straight away now, otherwise as jy dom is, moet jy k**. This is not to say am of to the doc for everything... Few weeks back had a bad car crash but felt fine, small bruise on the head but no whiplash or bruising from airbag and seatbelt. Tried to run a trail run a few days later and my heart rate was through the roof( hit 200 a few times), couldn't get enough air, was just wrecked and broken after only 30km. Turns out although I felt fine all was not entirely right.
