  1. there is no answer to that... 1: If you have the cash spend it on whatever the f### you want 2: Build the bike for the job at hand- Commuters don't need race components that need high maintenance, XC racers don't need Maxxis Crossmark tyres, strokes for folks, pick the club for the shot you need to make 3: He who dies with the most toys wins I ride a pretty basic bike, XT, 1x11, Crests on Hope pro 4's with an Aluminium frame, but it is exactly what I need, I can throw it over fences for AR and hammer it and not worry about it breaking, If I only rode mtb I would have a very different bike
  2. 37secs, but the only exact half marathon was a ultra triathlon, so that time is not a true representation. I also happen to have a fairly solid 5km time. There is 18s/km diff between 5 and 10km times...
  3. When those Ants get on the move they move well... I also get that, from the gf, she has learned not to let me rest and during taper weeks I am told to go build something in the garage for at least an hour a day. Thankfully have a list of sports I entertain so long that for most injuries I can find something to do to stay fit. Bastille day looked cool, still no clue why the Cape has decided to celebrate that day. But the run looks good, whats next on your calendar other than a trip to an island?
  4. personally I try average 30km/3runs a week all year, never go up to much more than 60km/week. Without having the weeks of zero running after big events you are always building from a bigger and bigger base rather than starting back from the beginning because after a big race you sat on the couch for 2 months avoiding winter. As for the cold, if you look for an excuse you will find one...
  5. because some of the real runs are still to come in the year? KK100, Skyrun, Skyrun ZIM, Reunion 100 Miler, Wolkberg, Lesotho Ultra, Uitsoek
  6. go and buy motorcycle mousses and trim them to size rather...
  7. Ya no, I have both Hoka and Innov8, I will never wear my innov8's for more than 20k as they have to little cushion. Speedgoats in tech terrain are 100% fine and you will get more confident the more you wear them and the stronger your ankles get. Consider that the extra foam allows them to wrap around rocks and sharp stuff giving more grip like deflating the tyres in a 4x4.
  8. been a long week for some of us. Raced the Nevarest Adventure race in Pilgrims last weekend, 33hours non stop racing with well over 6000m elevation gain, needless to say I only actually woke up on Tuesday. That course broke us, leaders were expected in after 24 hours- the winning team crossed the line after 35 hours, we skipped the last CP to short course ourselves. Running Kings Kloof paradise trail 25km on Sunday, but going to have to take it chilled. Might have an Ice bath this evening, only managed to run 15km and cycle 40 km since the weekend
  9. they should introduce a UCI rule of minimum bicep to quad ratio on cyclists
  10. bounty bars on the bike for the win! Also pineapple on Pizza is ok but not as good as banana on Pizza(with bacon)
  11. wordpress is not web development, it is a way to enable artists with little no experience to build pretty websites and rip people off left right and center by charging huge amounts to 'adjust text' If you are dead set on it, I suggest approaching race organizers but be aware the pay is min and you will no longer have weekends.
  12. Life is too boring if you have time to worry about the colour of your socks?
  13. the question is, can we get them as ankle socks
  14. Just stop and say, how hard can it be? Worst case scenario you af**** and come out the other end stronger, which is also kinda best case scenario. Sometimes you just got to treat it like a postage stamp- give it a lick, send it and hope for the best...
  15. I have bluetooth in the car for phone calls- as for the people saying you are distracted while talking on bluetooth, do you drive with your family and not speak to them at all in the car? GPS, when you get in the car, you know where you are going, so start the GPS before leaving. not rocket science people. The real thing they need to ban in cars is little kids, distracting their mom screaming and crying and causing k@k. the back seat should be sealed off from the driver unless there is someone else in the car to tend to them. The number of times a mom in an SUV is driving like sh!t trying to interact with a baby is a joke. Makeup tablets both the digital and non digital type, people popping uppers and pain meds and driving, it is illegal to race cars on myprodol but jonny with a hangover pops 2 and then drives. Uber drivers- the worst when it comes to being distracted by technology while driving
  16. So on the Adventure racing front_ we raced the Nevarest 36hour race in Pilgrims rest on the weekend. Lets just say it was tough, proper tough, absolutely spectacular route though but there is no flat ground there. From the guys who had gps watches sealed in their bags there was over 6500m elevation gain when the batteries died long before the end of the race. We were expecting a 20-24 hour afk*** but after 33 odd hours we crossed the line collecting all but the last checkpoint, which only 1 team managed to collect, all in all a great but rather cold weekend racing. Who is all in for the Cyanosis race?
  17. Try them both on and decide, I love my Hoka's and have had zero issues, but before that I was in Salomon SLab ultra's and also no issues, Sportsman's should have both in stock for you to try back to back or one foot in each shoe
  18. I do the same, use the optical for sleep etc and then use a strap for training. Think your resting hr while you sleep is a great insight into how your body is doing in terms of load and recovery
  19. This article actually is so badly researched, never quote a city's elevation. Nairobi is not 1795m above MSL- that would imply that it is a flat city at that height. They should quote an average height, Nairobi is below 1600m at one end and over 1800m at the other end so in context really he could have lived at 1550m or at 1850m. Then we start with JHB, the top of the Northcliff koppies may be -+1750m but at the Cradle where he cycles it is closer to and average of 1500m so really they did not actually check facts properly, just writing for the sake of writing
  20. Quote: 'culminating an excruciating January for the greatest African road cyclist in history.' pfffft, last time I checked he has a British flag next to his name on the entry list? Wonder where his taxes and UCI Licences go to/through? Sucks for the South African and African Cyclists who are proud to wear their African Countries colours and have their African Countrie's flag next to their name.
  21. I wasn't going to run this event again this year, ended up watching this the other evening and now I am already organizing pacers, setting out training and looking at goals
  22. Froome is like Lewis Hamilton, you either love the guy or you would rather pull toenails than see the guy win.
  23. well in the order of things to buy a HRM sports watch is probably first before HR straps and power meters so really not an issue. Fenix 3 is double the price with not much more functionailty to be honest
  24. ya don't waste money on a bike, rather buy better drugs
