  1. Is this the key to training how to fight the sleep monsters away in AR?
  2. +1 shoes need to be looked at, also make sure they give you enough support especially if you have high arches...
  3. Just a passing thought... Some are riding bikes past others, bikes that are valued more than others will earn with a full time job in a year and expecting no animosity
  4. a few of the trail runs are now offering the choice, a beer or a medal....
  5. So last weekend we smashed the 165km Cyanosis A1 Adventure race, the team managed to sneak a 3rd place after some good nav and a time trial last 30km cycle. This weekend we went up to Wolkberg for the Trail run and to see if there was anything left in the legs at all. For those of you who have never done it, Wolkberg is an awesome trail run, you stay in the school Hostels for the 2 nights, all food is included and the trail running is spectacular. 40km on day one with 900m elevation gain in the first 15km up and over the iron crown before flowing trails back to the school through the forests. 25km day 2 through some epic forests and gardens. Value for money you actually can't beat this event. Anyway day one was rough, took forever to find my legs and then lost them in the last 4km again. Day 2 was just damage control the whole way. Managed to sneak 6th overall barely...
  6. the polystyrene is the impact absorbing material that protects, same as used in motorcycle and car crash helmets and it does work. The real issue with the bicycle helmets is that due to vents and the cycling drive for lightweight gear there is actually zero point impact protection. If you land on the ground it will save you, but it you were to hit your head on say a dropper or the point of a tree branch, ya good luck with that.
  7. good luck with that, preservative free drinks have ruined races for me, wait till the temp reaches over 30deg and the juice in your bottle goes off very fast because it has no preservatives. Ever been in the situation where you need to decide, drink off juice and risk sickness or don't drink anything and get certain dehydration?
  8. How do you know someone has a Mac Book Pro? They will tell you long before you ever even dreamed of asking...
  9. Ya Rodriguers will be a fun one, more a tough beach outdoor holiday than a race I think, Stephan is going to have to be creative to get 350km of racing on an island that is 18km long. But I do agree the whole your boat is your transition vibe is going to be awesome, esp if you can handle a sail...
  10. Best cure for blisters is to toughen your feet up. No more foot creams, if you doing the gardening then barefoot or shoes without socks, cycle without socks, build the thick layers of skin up. If your shoes fit correct and your feet are tough then you should have no issues...
  11. I am passing on Rodrigues for next year... I want to go to Itera in Scotland, can you imagine the sleep monsters paddling on Loch Ness..
  12. went with a cheap and cheerful wired device, seems solid enough... Anyone else racing the Cyanosis A1 Race this weekend, looks like a rather competitive field...
  13. if you really want an interesting Transbaviaans, just after Cambria turn left, cross the river a few times and dodge the flying cacti, some people call this place mordor but really it could be worth it, you can rejoin the route at Hadleigh probably. You will lose a lot of time but it is an experience...
  14. GPX... GPX will keep points(waypoints etc) and tracks/routes separate. TCX is just a singe route file usually of someone who rode the route. Either will work fine though GPX to nav and then your Garmin creates a tcx of your ride ready for strava/garmin connect
  15. I must add to this, Go and run the spruit on the weekend, when I run I greet almost everyone(and definitely every single dog) most runners reply with a nod or a wave or a howsit. If you lucky roughly 1/3rd of mtb riders reply, most just charge on and ignore you clearly strava (w)ankering their way through life. If you go for a cycle on the spruit: you will get a reply from almost all mtb riders except the true die hard strava (w)ankers, The number of runners that will reply stays the same. Cyclists treat runners and people on foot the same way cars treat cyclists, it is a sad truth.
  16. If you think it is hard running in winter, try paddling through winter...
  17. There are also lurkers who would probably top 10 in the weekly leaderboard but keep all strava training private for various reasons and thus have not joined the group...
  18. So after getting flamed on the tour thread, I figured I would come here and give insight on my hatred for doping. I was not chirping G, actually prefer him as a winner to be brutally honest. I watched a close friend and his family give everything for him to try become a pro cyclist, he came 2nd and 3rd for many years at various events not quite making it and then after 7 years one of the guys that beat him week in and week out was bust doping.... Anyway the guy could have been clean back when he was beating my friend. Would those 2nds have changed his life if they were 1sts and would his current sponsorship deal be any better? Would his life be very different now? Try think of who should have won the 99-05 tour de frances? most will battle to remember, but you all remember LA, I feel for that poor guy too, he didn't get the million dollar sponsorship and a pose in yellow in Paris...
  19. There has been documented doping in the event for decades, if you truly believe that not one of those riders pushed the legal or ethical boundary during or leading up to the event, you are a far more trusting human being than I will ever ever be. Then again opinions and a******* we all have them hey?
