  1. I've joined a swim squad and started open-water swimming in the last 9 months. It certainly feels like it's helped my strength and fitness. I can also get my heart rate much higher on a hard swim than I can on a run...
  2. The open water swimmers doing Robben Island swear by this too...
  3. P4D Laptop Projector Stand, Heavy Duty Tripod Height Adjustable (28 to 41inch) Laptop Stand () | Makro I picked this up from Makro. R 629 seemed a better deal than trusting my lack of DIY skills...🤫
  4. Have you tried Ciovita? I bought one of there suits. Lekker product, reasonably priced. And close to the CBD.
  5. I've got a lekker fast TT route from the lighthouse in Green Point. Set my PB (nowhere near 20 minutes 😪) last month Easier than fighting your way through the Park Runners. You can then do the PR as a cool-down after. Lemme know if you want the GPX.

Cycle Lab offer a great store-to-store service. I used it from Joburg to Cape Town.
  7. There's a guy on the Hub who 3d prints them. I bought one and it worked really well. Lemme see if I can find his details. Found it: marshace
  8. I've managed to time a trip to Europe to coincide with the Zurich Marathon in April. Not cheap at CHF129 entry fee... around R 2,600. But it does include a t-shirt...🤣
  9. I'm starting to get p-ed off with Garmin!! On 15 July, they sent the following alert: Garmin has identified an issue with the NEO Bike Plus trainer that can cause overheating or in rare circumstances, fire. Use the following instructions in the service alert below to update your software, and then do not use the external power supply. Since then I've queried multiple times with Garmin SA. Response has been underwhelming to say the least: Thank you for contacting Product Support. Apologies for for the issue experienced. Currently we are still awaiting further feedback from engineering / testing. As son as they have feedback you will be notified of the way forward. Hope you have a good day, The unit works, but only under it's own internal power. So when you stop pedalling it switches off plus two of the features (USB charging ports and road feel) don't work. The unit is 9 months old. Anyone else with the same trainer?
  10. I ran a marathon last weekend with one of the SiSu gels and two Gu's for the caffeine. I like the low flavour of the SiSu and the convenience of the flip top is a win for me. Lots of small doses make it easier to consume.
  11. Pirates is an incredible club. They have an amazing vibe with lots of runs every week and all sorts of paces. Try a Tuesday TT. 5:45 start. I started running there to have a catch up with an old mate. Next thing I was a member and running Two Oceans in the skull and crossbones. DM me if you want a contact name.
  12. Perhaps another perspective of the homeless issue might be useful... Watch it. Don't watch it... Use it. Don't use it...
  13. Thanks all. Once again, the Hub does its thing! Appreciate it.
  14. If your better half was just starting to ride, where in CT would you take them for the first couple of outings? Somewhere that she can get comfortable on the bike and not be scared off by traffic or technical stuff.
  15. I ordered the Sisu drink. They delivered within 72 hours. Used it today on a training run. Just the drink to fuel an easy 2 hour run. I mixed it with 8 scoops so about 80 grams of carbs. Not too sweet and I felt really good. This will be my drink of choice for a while. And, it’s relatively well priced.
  16. The Duracell batteries have a special coating to prevent kids from putting them in their mouths. Check the packaging and buy those without the baby icon on the card. For some reason it makes the batteries work intermittently in Garmin HRMs.
  17. I absolutely love my Simple Sam. I picked her up on the Hub.
  18. This forum should be renamed - People are Idiots!! For context, I'm a cyclist and runner. I'm riding CTCT and training for Two Oceans. On Sunday I ran in the official Two Oceans training run - HB to Noordhoek and back, over Chappies. The runners at times were three and four abreast in the road when there was often space to run on the kerb. There were some cyclists three abreast in solid black kit with no taillights in the misty conditions at 6:30 am. There was a tjop in a Porsche sitting on a car's rear bumper, revving like he was about to start the GP at Monza. On my drive back to Sea Point on the way back, there was a solo cyclist through Bakoven riding with no hands, while chatting on his phone. There was an idiot who opened the rear passenger door of their Uber without looking who nearly ended up on my bonnet in Camps Bay. There was a TT rider in full aero position going through Clifton. There were countless pedestrians who stepped out between the cars without a thought for bikes/cars/motorcyclists etc. I'm constantly amazed by the sheer stupidity of people and the lack of awareness of ourselves in space and how that space impacts on others. Stay safe out there. But be aware that we all have a responsibility to allow others to be safe too.
  19. Sea Point
  20. Marco Abrahams from AB CycleFit in Joburg has just come back to Cape Town. I'm a huge fan of his. 074 319 2220
  21. I was at the finish in Paris in 2019. It was incredible. You will not believe how fast these guys ride!!! On the cobbles!! Try to find a stage where they loop around, so you can see more than just a 60 second blitz of speed and colour. Apparently, a TT Day is also cool as they come past continuously.
  22. I can give you my real-world experience... I'm a 7,000 km per year cyclist and 1,500 km per year runner. I was training in the Karoo for Kilimanjaro in July last year, when I experienced pain in my chest and down my left arm into my hand. I was fortunate to be hiking with a specialist nurse, who quickly identified what was happening. I drove for 4 hours back to Bloemfontein, where the ICU informed me that I had a 100% blockage on one of my arteries. The following morning, I had an angiogram followed by inserting a stent. Three days later I was back home and advised to take it easy for two weeks. Sixty days later, I summitted Kilimanjaro! I continue to ride and run. Last month I completed the Cape Town Marathon and qualified for Two Oceans. In my case, the blame lies squarely in my genes... I was never going to avoid the heart attack as every male in my family had experienced one by the age of 50. I was lucky, having gotten to 58... You, like me, have the great advantage of being fit. That should mean that your heart muscle is going to thank you for helping it get more blood to pump. It's the guys who've done no exercise and are 30 kg's overweight who struggle to get back to a normal life after having a heart attack. Trust your doctor and be grateful that you've been diagnosed prior to feeling that awful pain!!! Feel free to DM me if you'd like to chat.
