  1. Maybe I'm not very bright... Why would the Organisers of CTCT have cancelled the race if not for the safety of the cyclists? Where is their gain?
  2. With respect, your comment is not fair... If CTCT had been allowed to start, cyclists would have been injured with the possibility of deaths. Then, the Hub would be full of abuse and recriminations against the organisers. That wind was a freak of nature over which the organisers had no control. This event has been cancelled because of fraud or incompetence or stupidity. Time will tell. Not even a close comparison... With respect, Meezo...
  3. I do around 5,000 km per year on my dedicated Carbon Bianchi on a CYCLEOPS power sync. Not a problem with the frame. The advantage lies in having a dedicated bike so you can just hop on and get riding.
  4. Front gate I think. Should be there a bit after 7. It's about 49 km from where we start. Ride safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. So, all the experts in hubland convinced me to avoid FitChef. Thanks for the input. I took my money and went to see a sports nutritionist who has given me lots of input and guidance. I'm really happy with her advice. I'm looking for a "clean" protein powder and bar that I can use when I have no time to fit in a meal or have that dreaded late afternoon hunger pang. The requirement is that they are low in fat, sugar and carbs. Advice please.
  7. My D90 group is doing the loop to SBR from Meyersdal on Sunday. After a 75km club ride on Saturday... And before a 150km ride on Tuesday... If that doesn't get me ready for D90, nothing will! I LOVE (hate) SBR.
  8. I ride an Ultravox TI. I love my bike. It's sexy and stands out in the crowd even though it's matt black. I enjoyed being able to spec it according to my own requirements rather than being forced to take it off the shelf. I always get comments on how good it looks and it's way more bike than I'll ever be able to do justice to... Their service was great and it probably cost about 20k less than the equivalent Bianchi that I was looking at. If you're down in CT for the CTCT, they have a lekker little showroom on Orange in the CBD.
  9. So here's my story. I'm a roadie who averages 8-10 hours per week on my bike - either my IDT via Zwift or outdoors on weekends. I do weight training twice a week at the gym. I am 53 years old. I cook most of my meals myself with good healthy ingredients and limit my saturated fats. I virtually never drink sugary drinks and satisfy my sweet tooth mostly with dark chocolate. I don't have tons of coffee with sugar. I eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies. I drink very little beer, but am partial to a good Scotch (or two) a couple of nights per week. I weigh around 83 kg and feel like I would be at my fighting weight under 80 kg. I want to try Fit Chef's 21 Day Challenge to see if it helps me drop the extra 3 or 4 kg quickly. My aim is to do it after Argus in the weeks leading up to the Maluti Double 90. Does anyone in Hubland have real life experience if the Fit Chef meals and challenge? Do you have any input/advice? Or alternatives?
  10. I use my with my 810 and it's really effective. The newer 520 should be even better as a head unit.
  11. I've been riding with a Varia rear light on my road bike for about a month. It really is useful when your out riding away from traffic and suddenly a car comes up behind, often at speed. The colour change on the Garmin display and the beep is all I need to be a little more aware. It also is useful to check before overtaking a slower rider. Just a glance at the display lets you know if there is a faster moving vehicle within 100+ metres. And, as an added bonus, my mates behind me see the change in flashing pattern, so they are also alerted to the potential danger. I wouldn't ride with the Varia. I've also just added a red light to the back of my helmet as an additional device. And, I've just ordered a small flashing light for my bars.
  12. We need to keep the pressure up on the officials who can make a change happen. Politicians are only concerned about keeping their jobs. So if we make them look bad, they have to be seen to be doing something. Great letter Rapunzel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Andrew's funeral will take place on Thursday 2 February, 14h00 @ St Martin's in the Veld, 43 Cradock Ave, corner Eastwood Rd, Dunkeld.

  16. We are all aware of the crime problem in our country. The issue that should be handled on a forum like this should be to find out why there is a sudden increase in bike jacking? We all know what our bikes are worth, but what does the thief on Rustenburg Road know? Or, where is he selling the bikes? Or, is he being instructed to steal bikes for someone? A mate of mine was jacked near K'dorp late last year. His Specialised Roubaix with Concept wheels was stolen. Somebody must have bought the bike. Where was it sold? Are the bikes being stripped for parts that are resold? If so, where else could they be sold other than on this platform? If they are being sold complete, how is it possible that we are not aware of it? Cyclists don't buy 50 k bikes on Gumtree. Or do they? Suspicious much? Are they going through a retailer? In that area? Does someone who rides with you suddenly have a smarter bike than they could afford. Has someone you know just upgraded with 20 k wheels? Come on, guys! Instead of bitching let's use this incredible resource to gather some info. This community might have lots of people over a large area, but we all need to contribute by asking the right questions. And using this platform for something other than scoring cheap points.
  17. Nowhere to hide on the 947 route?
  18. The Garmin aftersales service in SA is brilliant. I will continue to support local agents and retailers that look after me when there is a problem. They are entitled to make a profit which funds staff, premises, stock and spares. After having three Garmins repaired/replaced/upgraded, I have complete confidence in the local distributors. And, when I showed the guy at their stand at the 947 Expo on Friday how my Fenix 3 strap was wearing through, he replaced it free of charge. I wouldn't consider any product from Garmin that didn't come through the official channels.
  19. I'm intrigued to know if the guy who cheated on the Carnival City event raced, and if so, what was his time?
  20. I am fortunate to have bought a Swift Ultravox TI earlier this year. A truly fantastic bike. Now, if I could just find some legs to match...
  21. I rode my 5th consecutive 947 on Sunday. The organization at the start and finish gets better every year. The electronic boards made loading into the start pens really easy and painless. There will always be an idiot who tries to mess up the system, but we all got into our bunches and out on the ride with no hassle. Well done to the organisers. Can't wait to be there again next year. (Now, if only my legs were up to the standard of organization...)
