  1. I know it's been posted here before, but I can't find it... 🙄 What glue and patches should I be suing to put into my tubeless tyres? I've got a few holes that need patching and want to do it correctly.
  2. Has anyone tried these? Air-Liner Road - Accessories (vittoria.com) Are they even available in SA?
  3. The only training is to walk, walk and walk. We carry our backpacks with about 12 kg of weight. I like that the route is rough and rocky as it will give us the challenge of route as much as ascent. Where would we park to do the "other side"?
  4. We're training for Kilimanjaro later this year. Would Breedts be a safe route for 4 or 5 of us to walk one Sunday? Safe from people, 4x4's and motorbikes? Obviously, cyclists would just smile and wave... We'd probably do about 8 km up and then u-turn back to the start? Where should we park?
  5. Converse is also true... if the saddle is the issue, no bibs will help
  6. Agreed... what are you going to do when the tracker shows your bike is in the middle of Alex or Khayalitsha? Go in and claim it back? Hmmm... I'd rather make the insurance claim.
  7. On Saturday morning, hundreds of cyclists ride from the Waterfront out to Llandudno and back. It's the best ride of the year.
  8. Chat to Alix at Cycle Lab Fourways. There are lots of options for both road and mountain biking over various speeds and distance.
  9. So, a year after the last update to this forum, I'm looking for current recommendations for insurance for my bikes. What's been the best experience on the Hub over the past 12 months?
  10. Thanks guys. Appreciate the input.
  11. I'm seven years late on this post... I'm spending a week in Hermanus over New Year. What are the best road rides?
  12. Some of the CR 2032 batteries have a coating that makes them unpleasant for kids to put in their mouths. This coating appears to mess with the working of the HRM. My Tickr was completely unreliable until I changed to a cheap non-coated kid-unfriendly battery. Now it works perfectly.
  13. Just check that either light will fit your handlebars. I've got Vision 4 handlebars and because they are aero, most lights don't fit. The Lezyne just squeezes on, but I'm waiting for the dreaded snap of the rubber band every time I fit it...
  14. I mailed them and they agreed immediately. Try melissa@Amashova.co.za It made no sense for us to drive from Joburg , get up at some ungodly time in PMB to ride an 80 km out and back route...
  15. A group of us had booked to stay in PMB. We've cancelled our accommodation and taken a bit of a hit on the deposit. We've rolled our race entry into next year's event.
  16. I know it's rude to keep a forum topic on subject... but here's my 80's Hansom rebuild
  17. I was a huge Zwift fan during lockdown. Over the last 5 or 6 years, I've done nearly 25,000 km on my IDT. I've moved from Zwift to Sufferfest and back a few times as I get bored on a single format. Zwift is brilliant if you've got a group of mates doing workouts and races together. Sufferfest is more engaging if you're riding solo. They also have some great cycling movies to back up endurance and recovery rides. Abi Carver, the Yoga Instructor, is worth the monthly subscription on her own...???? I found Rouvy completely boring when it first launched and never been back.
  18. Yes, I know... I should do the tubeless conversion on my gravel bike. But, until I do, what tubes do I use for my 40 mm tyres?
  19. So, after 35+ years off the motorbike, I finally bought one to commute. My 8 km drive through Sandton now takes a minimumm of 40 minute in the car. Twice a day... I pulled the trigger on a 2012 Honda NC700X with less than 30k on the clock. Writing my learner's on Monday, then hoping to add some useful time to my day.
  20. Cycle Lab have five teams coming from Fourways. We'll be the slow one, wearing mismatched Qhubeka socks. Wave as you go by...
  21. My friend and teammate was taken down by a rider who swerved in front of him going down the Third Bitch. Broken clavicle, two cracks in his pelvis and lots of road rash and bruises. We were doing around 50 km/h according to my Garmin. Another cyclist rode straight into him and did his shoulder. It all happened right in front of me, in slow motion. Somehow I was able to avoid the carnage and spend the next 40 minutes holding his hand and shielding him from the sun and the boiling hot tar. The medical crews were great and he’s now in Swellendam Medical for another few nights before two weeks in a rehab centre. Then he may be able to fly home. He’s a tough old Bullet and I’m expecting him to be back on the bike and dishing out the pain soon.
  22. I know it well... second only to the Orangerie. Monet's Water Lilies always make me misty eyed! http://www.musee-orangerie.fr/en
  23. Where is it normally?
  24. Zwift is the BOSS. I run it on Apple TV - virtually bullet proof. I create training programmes and workouts on Trainer Road. They sync perfectly. I do the occasional race on Zwift, but primarily it's workouts for me.
  25. We have put together a team mainly from Cycle Lab in Fourways. We leave on the Wednesday prior to the race Day 1 - Parys to Reitz Day 2 - Reitz to Winterton via Kestell and Oliviershoek Pass Day 3 - Winterton to Nottingham Road Day 4 - Notties to Midmar and back via the Mandela Capture Site - recovery ride Day 5 - Amashova Do not attempt this ride without a vehicle and trailer that is capable of carrying all of you. Last year we rode into the most awful storm outside Mooi River that made conditions treacherous. There have been reports of hail storms and 70 km/h winds. Cater for the worst conditions and you'll be fine. It is one of the best adventures of my life. If anyone finds the road past Sterkfontein to the Border Post and down Oliviershoek Pass boring, then I'm happy to be bored...
