only decided on sunday how we are getting down, still trying to arrange accommodation etc.

at least flight will be on way, will hitch a ride back with my mate

you staying in fish hoek again?

Nah bud. Ever since covid my folks haven't been down for their usual 2 week holiday in Fish Hoek. The last 2 races, just my Dad and I have gone down Friday morning, come back Sunday afternoon and we have stayed at the protea hotel at the waterfront. TBH this hotel is like the perfect location for the race. Takes us less than 10 min to ride to the start. Takes us 10 min to walk to the expo. After the race its like 5 min free wheel from the finish. We are literally right over the road from the aquarium so we just walk to the waterfront for chow. It is so convenient.

    Precisely Long Wheel Base,

There will be strict controls in place and should the team think someone has qualified for the finale unfairly they will audit attempts.

The Finale will be a live streamed event on YouTube with an MC leading proceedings.

We aim for this to be as fair as possible!

Just to confirm, we download and register a bkool profile? We get 1 month free. Let’s say we happen to make it to the finale, but our free month has expired and we didn’t take up a subscription, would we need to then take up a subscription?

If it was me I would have picked the red kit - at least from the pictures it looks pretty nice

I am leaning towards wearing it on race day. Another reason to order asap so that it arrives in time. Don't want to leave new kit decisions down to picking it up at the expo.

If the VIP log is anything to go by there are about 400 peeps qualifying for the 30 jersey and only about 20 for the 40 jersey

So those 2 are pretty exclusive...

(Almost 20K qualify for the 10 jersey so that one not so much...)

Red 30 jerseys for my toppie and I.

Big decision now is, do we race in our usual kit or wear this lekker red top for the race.................

you can buy more than one on the site. so i could buy for friends really. If someone really really wants to wear this top, but are not eligible then the only real problem is with them.

might be limited options then, reckon this works on a preorder mainly.

A few years back, whoever made the cape epic finishers shirts was getting rid of old stock and they had a sale. Anyone was able to buy a cape epic finishers shirt. I didn't know this and saw a fellow club member wearing one and asked when he did the epic. He responded telling me the above. I didn't really agree with wearing it and I wouldn't but hey, you get some strange people. At least he told me he just bought it. Some people would have said they did the race.

I wonder if they will stop just anyone buying this kit or will they check to see if you've done x amount ?

Trying to decide if I should buy a 10,  for keep sake until I qualify for a 21 in a few years time. that way as I work my way through the numbers I can have a complete collection.

So when you click the link to buy, it takes you to the online entry page and you put in your name and ID and then this pops up

    image.png.3436ec5b48f9d26be4480714977eeeba.png

I have not tried to click the link for the other jerseys to see if I can buy those as well but there is no option to add any other jerseys to my cart via the red jersey link. My Dad and I will probably just do one order so one of us will buy 2. There doesn't seem to be anything stopping us from buying more than one. As a matter of interest, I will click on the others and see. I assume I will be able to buy 10 and 21 but not 40......yet.

I usually wear a medium as well. These loyalty shirts are the sport fit, which for me fit slightly tighter than my Club 21 shirt (RacePace brand?), but not as tight as the Ciovita race fit jerseys that I am avoiding until Xmas has been worked off

I reckon I’ll definitely go for a medium then. Thanks for the info👍🏼

  8. Guys that own Ciovita kit, specifically the shirts. What is the sizing like? I usually wear a Medium in my other kit and the lekker new loyalty jerseys are available to order but I am in Joburg and I don't know anyone close to me that owns ciovita.

how are the controls on a plane operated ? hydraulics or electric ? would the RAT allow for the operation of the controls if they are electric ? or is it purely for comms and some emergency stuff ?

Some hydraulic, and some electric. It allows you to control the plane. So in spokeys case, system 3 hydraulics I think he said. Pretty much all the bigger jets have 2 or 3 hydraulic systems. Each system operates different things. Some are primary for one control and then secondary for another. Airbus call them yellow, green and blue systems. Small Boeing A and B systems. Big Boeing, hmm damn I can’t remember the newer ones like 777 and 787 but 747 was A,B,C and D. Those main landing gears required lots of hydraulics and 2 of them would rotate a little bit like the nose wheels when turning.

Ram Air Turbine…it is amble to provide emergency AC power at 9Kva which in turn powers the Essential DC. It also powers the System 3 hydraulics . This on our aeroplane anyway. It drops automatically if there is a total loss of AC power. The airliners have larger ones normally stored in the fuselage forward of the wing leading edge, as far as I know!!

On the Boeing and airbus’s I used to work on, they were never in a common spot. Was all dependent on the best spot with smooth airflow depending on the angle of attack used when the RAT is used for real. I’d need a refresh but I think the 787 it actually sits in the wing to body fairing just aft of the wing and landing gear. The 330 I think it’s under the wing in one of the flap fairings. But the 319 is pretty much where you mentioned. Funny thing now that I think, the aircraft I have the most hours on in my logbook, the 737, I have never tested a rat or can’t remember where it sits!!! And I have done the full course🤦🏼‍♂️

Thanks, did not know planes had these.

so its for backup power during load shedding :)

And tbh, you don’t want to be on a plane where it is needing to use it. Testing aside, when the RAT is deployed, people who know, are sweating and possibly praying. It’s worse than load shedding. Think complete blackout as in no power. Contrary to some people’s belief, it can NOT propel the plane forward, you are gliding a passenger aircraft!!!!

Had to drop the RAT on the way in to Biggin as an Operational check was required. Was good to see that it does all it needs to in the event of it being required in flight. Over Western Europe the temperature was -73 at FL430. We did pay attention to the fuel temp in the tanks but it never got below -13 so all good there!

The pic with the aerie in flight is us passing an Emirates A380 cruising down at FL360 over Turkey. Normally I cannot get pics from inside the cabin, but no pax yesterday.

Can you hear the RAT running during flight?

I have done ground tests on them and my word they are loud. They also spin seriously fast, it is actually pretty scary being close to it.

  13. I asked on instagram if the short route counts towards one’s total tally of completed tours, it doesn’t. Also the minimum age is still the same as the normal route. So when my boys are old enough they doing the full route with me as I’m not breaking my tally to ride the short with them. I did my first Argus at 6, so they can do the full at 11 anyway.

Contrary to popular belief, removing seals, cleaning bearings and greasing them is hardly ever successful.

The balls pit as well as the race they run on.

Off topic, I know I have been scarce here this year, but when did you get back? Welcome back!!!

Yeah the new 2024 system will have a negative affect on my decision to stay with Multiply. I will only be able to hit tier 2, so my premium will fall from 60% in 2023 to 35% in 2024

It doesn’t drop straight away. It drops 5% in 2024 and then 2.5% each year until you reach your new discount.
for info, the discount replacement called life returns max discount will be 35%.

We had a rather large electric fence put in to keep the big ladies(dairy moo's) safe at night.

The guy came with an adendorff petrol powered auger. Our dirt is lovely and soft and that thing worked such a treat I am off to buy one now as well. If you are doing fencing regularly and it is not too rocky, I can highly recommend one. The auger bit also makes a neat hole not too wide so you need minimal concrete to fill it around a pole. Very efficient.

I had to google auger, and then said "o is that what it's called". That thing looks cool and fun to operate.

nice to see you log a ride on an actual road for a change, I was starting to think you had moved to the land down under

LOL, you have no idea how many people have sent me messages asking if I have left the country. I try ride in as many different countries as I can but the app I use has quite a lot down under and they also had a challenge last month during world champs that included "local" rides so did a few of those as well.

I did one in Las Vegas a few months back and a buddy sent me a message asking if I had moved and he was going there on holiday soon and we should do a ride together.

  18. Although I suffered yesterday, race was a success. I did a 02h55m which is slow for me but it was good to get a race under the belt as I don’t get time to race much anymore.
pink road markings for unrepairable surface helped a lot and the fresh tar over the rest is very much appreciated.
well done and thank you to the organisers.
