  1. i agree, with holy on the skinny runt thing - Im just that aswell, but its not about us. Its about your accomplishment so far in deciding to do the best activity ever - Ride a bike But the biggest thing i agree on is going to Groenies and we all ride at your pace. Its sooooooooo much fun there. Added bonus is that its nice n close to you if youre coming from lyttelton side
  2. Look to be honest, Im not much of a Scott fan but if i were in your position with the options you have posted here this would be my choices 1.Merida, in all liklihood the lightest of them all, but looks really comfy & good value for hard earned money 2.Giant - Definately, has the best drivetrain 3.Scott 4.Mongoose Hope this helps
  3. Dig the single track shot
  4. definately replace the helmet. Problem is the foam is only meant to take ONE blow, whether it be from dropping, throwing or falling regardless of the impact the foam density changes & creates weak spots. So in a nutshell if you bail again your lid could just possibly split & you could be damaged for life it is also recommended by cycling & motorbike helmet manufacturers that you replace every 3-4 years ragardless of knocks or damage. Someone did give me the reasons for this once before but it escapes me right nowBumpNgrind2010-01-19 05:59:48
  5. good question cause im as stiff as hell in my shoulders & neck from yesterdays ride
  6. Now excuse my ignorance, but what is a helicoil - That sounds like something i should get in my tool box. Nothing like having the right tool for the job edited: Nevermind i found it on the web + a video of how it works http://www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.aspBumpNgrind2010-01-18 08:33:49
  7. very imformative agreed crasher. Is refreshing to get some valuable feedback from suppliers like that & give a little inside info
  8. definately a crack, even if its superficial it will get bigger/deeper & thats guarenteed toss out or expect medical bills, your choice
  9. ive bonked badly on home rides twice, & as the saying goes fool me once shame on you, fool me twice & shame on me. 2nd time round i took 2 bananas with in the camelbak & it was an absolute life saver. Youll still need time to recoup as it unfortunately takes time to get into your system & besides by the time you bonk its too late to do anything further except wait until your sugar/energy stores starts stabilizing again but to help the recovery i found bananas to be an absolute godsendBumpNgrind2010-01-13 07:35:31
  10. Okay i sold my shifter set like that exc the calipers for R350. Perhaps it was too little but i got it sold within a day or so. perhaps R400 - R500 would be a reasonable price to ask im not sure ?
  11. good on you bru - i like that !!! A LOT take no prisoners
  12. Justin Try epic cycles there in Centurion. They pretty stocked up on fork stuff, just not sure on Fox stuff cause it would appear they are more hooked up on rock shox stuff but go have a look anyhow
  13. Need some valuable advice or perhaps someone else has experinced the same When i brake, both front & rear it seems like my brake pads grab onto the disc. It doesnt gradually grab the disc but rather a violent grabbing of the disc. The pads still have IMO fair life. Perhaps 3/4 worn. Ive thought of getting new pads but will that solve the problem ?. If i adjust them then they are fine for about 3 or brake pulls on the levers but then it starts grabbing again has anyone else experienced this & if you have what have you done to remedy this dangerous situation
  14. mail sent
  15. let me quickly go have a look see for it & ill mail you back shortly
  16. You could pull it apart yourself without it being brain surgery to do the job properly. Youll just need to get new fork oil & crush washer. Although i re-used mine. It wasnt turned on so tightly from when i bought the fork new, no wonder the fork leaked oil so much. so im a plain believer of not letting anyone touch my bike except myself. & thats each & every little thing Go have a look at sram's site 7 get a diagramme of how the darts are put together & that way youll know. Tell you what ill go have a look for a decent diagramme for you cause there are many but there is only one diagramme that shows it in extreme detail which is what you want, just give me your email address
  17. what type of fork do you have ?
  18. i didnt as that could have turned ugly. Just the fork legs were done. The Crown doesnt look bad in black anyhow IMO Also you dont wanna get old paint shavings down the stanchion tubes if you do that + i didnt do it as its made out of magnesium & could damage the properties of the crown at least that my opinion, i could be proven wrong BumpNgrind2009-12-15 01:29:23
  19. if you get 2k on your stanchions/dust seals youre up sh!t creek. the 2k will eat away at the rubber compound on the dust seal which will ineveitably leave you with having to pull the fork apart again as in time it will start leaking fork oil. Ask me i did that way once before on a seperate pair of forks. but each one to his own I used a light 15 thousand grit water paper to prep, it takes forever i warn you & patience is key. It probably took me about 4 hours in total to get it prepped properly You then go & get a good 2k paint & catalyst & dont forget to ask them for a mixing table. too much catalyst & its water, too much paint & its a toffee apple so it needs to be perfect. Then use a spray gun that works with gravity feed & not compressed air 1st pushing the paint out from the chamber before exiting the spray nozzle. Spray in a very fine mist. My buddy did about 3 or 4 light coates. That way you also prevent runs & the 2k becomes a little stronger & resistant to hairline paint cracks later on that should do it, hopefully
  20. i did mine good 2k & catalyst. Friend of mine did the spray work - i cant spray to save my life. Hope you know how to put your fork back together again. Give it a good service while youre at it, but im assuming youve already thought of that
  21. welcome 1st off your goose will keep you in good stead until your willing to pay the outrageous bike prices of something a little better. I had one tyax elite & rode that thing to hell & back. Components got moeg but the frame is still great & is hanging in the garage so..... Where exactly is your no mans land that you live at ?. Usually if you wanna get some good 2nd hand parts to upgrade then you are on the right forum. Not alway the right time but youll strike up some nice deals if you get there 1st. BTW youre still spring chicken - I see & often ride rough terrain with an old man of 67. He sometimes whips my butt, scary but true
  22. just a tought maybe & thats if you can. I dont own a pair of bibshorts but ive seen some other guys do it. Try see if you can swap the straps around ie: left shoulder over the right. Might become a little too tight then but its worth a try i reckon. That way it also doesnt go over the nipples but rather crosses over your chest. Might have a buldgy bit at the back though from the cross over but try it ???. Who knows ???
