  1. I rode some of the track with Corrie recently and I can say with utmost confidence YOU GUYS ARE IN FOR A BLAST! Some proper mountainbiking. The guys doing the 65km need to bring their Big boy undies, there is plenty of climbing, but the track looks fantastic and there are some beautiful new sections which many of the distances will be doing. The fynbos is also looking awesome as you go through parts of Grootbos.
  2. Lerouc I was there when Naas was helping to deal with this issue, I can definitely say that he did not see it as an unimportant issue. My entry and registration went well and the race and route were both fantastic!
  3. We have not seen the panga dude for months now. The area he was in has mostly been cleared of trees, and he was definitely in summer attire. I seriously doubt he is around, I have been riding the track and no sign of him. It should be fine. The fynbos is flowering and some nice wildlife around.
  4. PM me when you get here and we can make a plan.
  5. I have owned Hope hubs and DT swiss, all with lots of engagement points and fast engagement and still no problem on the AC. I often see guys mentioning this as an AC problem, but I particularly like riding difficult terrain and on a SS the hub engagement would be perhaps even more crucial. Obviously my 2c and personal subjective experience only.
  6. No, sorry to disagree. The 'slow' engagement issue has never bothered me and I have been on several sets of AC incl SS. I have and have had a few sets of 3:30 hubs and Crest wheels and can say with confidence that the AC freewheel and hubs are more robust ( incl bigger bearings). Wide lightning rims are Crest weight but Flow width ( also 107kg weightlimit) and cheaper than Crests, so I think an easy choice. The Neo looks good.
  7. Opposite direction of my MTB evolution.
  8. Yes, it is safe, I ride alone here all the time. There are some bits where the guys are harvesting wood and the track is damaged there ( on black and red) but all new bits on blue. The new extended black route is over 60km and about 2000m climbing and plenty of engaging single track to keep you focused. Obviously shorter red ( 28km), blue and green depending on your skill and ambition levels.
  9. Hel Naas! lyk fantasties. Double stitch nou daai hempsakke dat ek mooi kan vashou.
  10. THERE'S MY HUCKLEBERRY!! I would change the brakes and front tyre, but otherwise this is the faecal matter.
  11. Nobody expects 100% ST, but a good 50% would be nice.
  12. Reports of misaligned rear axles and lots of play in rear triangle. Hope these have been sorted out as it seems to be a great frame.
  13. 16% single track? Eish! that's not a lot.
  14. Testing a light carbon wheelset ( 1460gr) using pretty heavy tyres ( over 750gr per tyre) will not give you the best feel for this wheelset. Horses for courses! Maxxis Ikon ( 585gr) rear and Rocket Ron ( 605gr) front for this XC application, I would suggest.
  15. " World's toughest single stage MTB race" Not really. It is hard and long but the terrain is pretty easy, it is also more descent than ascent and often as it was this year, you get a tailwind for a good long stretch. This does not detract from the achievement in winning the race, well done to these guys!
  16. So, same ballpark weight, Tpi, and dimensions as the 2015 Nobby Nick. Have you tried the new NN? a comparison would be interesting.
  17. Awesome wheelset! I was surprised by their stiffness. Feels like a legal cheat. I am used to AC hubs, so I use them on geared and SS bikes, no problem, I actually prefer them to some of the ' faster engaging hubs, as AC hubs have pretty large bearings despite the low weight, and replacing them with proper NTN bearings results in very reliable smooth hubs.
  18. I am really loving this STR frame!! Paddy( usually rigid) goes Enduro, 140mm X-Fusion shock. Smoof. With Hans Damf, ze German laxative, on the front.
  19. Prize money should be proportional to the amount of participants in each category, surely the most fair way. The Elite/pro riders could perhaps have a different scale of remuneration.
  20. Francois, ou maat ek dink jy moet net n bietjie diep asemhaal. This problem we seem to have in RSA of wanting to react violently when someone, perpetrates a minor ''inconvenience'', this car was keeping the cyclists safer than they would have been if they were riding in single file with cars passing at great speed in close proximity, and you see it as a reason why people want to kill cyclists? how many cyclists are inconvenienced by motorists?
  21. I am not sure I buy the 'Women need a different geometry ' sales blurb. I think there are more variations within each gender group than between genders, as far as bikes are concerned. Next we are going to see bikes for dif ethnic groups? White on a MTB, not logical, Jim'' Bit like a white g-string on a dude.
  22. I spoke to Sgt Combrinck, late entries will be available at the start.
