Nice videos and topic. As a resident of Prince Albert and operating a small bike shop I have had many difficult moments , something like this . Guy(s) walk into the shop. Hi what is the road like to Die Hel ? Me : Bad , why ? We are going to cycle there and back. Me : In one day ? Yes , only 120 km there and back and it’s downhill into Die Hel. I’ve done 120 plenty times . So now I try and look him up and down and make a judgement call , will he be able to do it ? And we all know how dangerous it is to judge someone on appearance. Me: You have backup ? If the answer is yes I say go for it who am I to talk someone out of his dreams . If no backup I give my nr and say phone me when back in town if I don’t hear from you by 8 pm tonight I will come looking for you . That has caused some worried looks . That valley is so remote ideal is to cycle in and spend at least one day at Boplaas before riding back.

I am always puzzled by high end bike prices so am intrigued by your remark that prices are unrelated to value . Being a small shop none of the popular brands are available to me from the importers so I have to buy from shops and get a discount . One of these shops disclose to me what they pay for a particular bicycle and according to that the margin is not excessive . So my question to you is this , where does the huge markup occurs . Manufacturer or importer ?

Happy that at 74 years of age I can continue with my January 1 tradition but I do need to replace the 34T with a 32T before next year

I live in the sticks and use Postnet to buy and sell . My closest Postnet is in Oudtshoorn so I can’t drive there ( 240 km = 24 liters diesel @ R20 ) just to deliver to Postnet so have to do when going for other business . I disclose this to every buyer before accepting money and never had a grumpy buyer . PEP to PEP also works well but some sellers/buyers are reluctant to visit their PEP due to its location
