  1. Meh, they’ve not stayed relevant and are basically fighting sunrace/ltwoo/sensah for best of the rest these days. ( and they will lose) Ill butcher their name all i want thanks😅 Someone more knowledgable will correct me if im wrong but i read somewhere that almost nobody uses campy stuff anymore where the big boys play. The sun rises in the east, water is wet, the mighty eventually fall from grace.
  2. This was my 5th one and it has always been an event where you feel you got value for your money. Thanks and keep it up @NicholasH The Trilogy seemed popular. Might try it next year. I started later with a friend in one of the gravel groups and we rode together up to the split at Fisantekraal. I also dont mind the last bit through D’urbanvale. The finish up Odendaal is part of what makes it unique, although it used to go to the top. The gees there is great. You’ll lose that finishing in Adderley.
  3. I sit on that offramp in traffic every morning. Some mornings s taxi stops, door opens, the genie guides traffic around and the guys down the bank run up and load things into the taxi. Ive not seen things resembling bicycles….but it looks super dodge anyway
  4. Jonkershoek. As jy by Armageddon 8 kom, kyk op en keep going lol. Af was lekker though. Jy kan van daai spot af al die pad via armageddon tot by hek ry. Dis n goeie 15-20min se descending.
  5. Ive read that they can also snap if the leather tension is too low. So too flexy. New rails from Brooks England look like about £35. Considering what they cost new, but more importantly i guess - how long it takes to get these to break in to the perfect shape for your specific butt - maybe R800 ish isnt that bad. But i’d be inclined to ask a Dave Mercer or similar if this could be welded first. Worth a try. Those are just chromoly aren't they? Also, get in touch with David from everyday cycle supply. He brings them in. Maybe he can chuck a spare in a order next time. https://everydaycyclesupplyco.com/collections/brooks-england
  6. The only bracketing an X2 needs involves a hammer…end then the bin. Objectively and widely considered one of the worst abominations to ever come out of the fox factory. There are 3 types of X2 owners: - ones that have blown theirs in 5 rides and are on their 3rd warranty replacement, - ones that have a working X2 but live off social grants due to maintenance costs, and then ones that are Jon Snow…. 😅
  7. Just build up to a comfy 50km ride. No need to try and build up to 100km. You wont now anyway lol. I always tell people if you can do 50km without dying, you can do CTCT. The stoke will carry you the rest of the way. When my wife still rode bikes she proved this every year i made her do it with me. One 50km warm up ride 2 weeks before CTCT…then just go do it. She always finished before the cutoff. Just have fun, i mean its basically downhill all the way to Simons Town😅 thats half the route right there. im using this same logic on myself this year. Im doing it single speed, and im just making sure im comfy doing 50km rides in SS mode without dying. The rest ill find next to the m3 or past noordhoek somewhere.
  8. No skin in THIS game…and don't care. I’m just here to tell you that you will ride the 2024 Munga whether it gets cancelled or not. WILL. 😋
  9. For that matter, while sitting in traffic on the way out of wellington, two guys came in on TT bikes with bars and the lot. Those are not allowed either in these events as far as I know.
  10. That group just settled into a cruising pace, drinking and stocking up on carbs before the hill. @ChrisF just forgot he was on an e-bike for a second and not everyone (in that group) can go full taps all the way on an analog bike 😅 it was still relatively quick for a plonker like me for instance…like 3h and under pace. you didnt really get boxed in Chris (imo) ….you just didnt want to ride in the group in that spot haha. Ive passed people on the gravel shoulder too before because I was frustrated. Maybe it’s not as noticeable on an ebike, but you HAVE to ride in the group like that if you want to save energy and go faster on a normal bike. Its something silly like 30% or some number, one of these racing snakes will correct me im sure.😅
  11. Single speeded my way around winelands half race to feel it out. A bit under geared I think but should work better for ctct. Got slaughtered on the fast bits obviously..was spinning out at 40kph. But when your only choice to make it up a rolling hill is to mash it out….you realise how much time you gain on everyone sitting and spinning. Think i annoyed quite a few guys. Even got some kudos along the way😅
  12. @NickGM, sounds close to where you were harassed. Seems they might have been scoping.
  13. Im doing the half on sunday…but single speeding. Hope i dont die🤣
  14. You sure did. Between both threads (RC/EVO) i don't think Le Hub has seen such a concerted effort since hard lockdown…
  15. Hey! How dare you assume they drink alcohol or sleep?? Such a infantile comment. Be a grownup and call them and find out for yourself!
  16. Not sure this will include the ‘Banhoek’ we all love. Maybe klipwerf. Anyway, not like I actually know.
  17. It’s mos the 95th of January….the longest month of the year. Everybody needs R150 right about now….
  18. The last time he rode a bike, the geological composition of Contermanskloof, and the earth, was different. Im not even sure the dinosaurs had been discovered yet…
  19. With people riding around on bicycles that cost the same as cars….why wouldn't they follow the money? Marketing bakkies and the likes at mtb events - in south africa - is a marketing strategy a 3y old could come up with imo. Like parking a c-class merc at a golf day. ‘Look here dentists, it can take 4 bags and your caddy in the boot!’😅
  20. Ive mentioned it on here before somewhere but Ive had the redshift seatpost and stem on my soma wolverine since 2019 (when they cost way less than now😅) and the best way to describe how they make n relatively ‘dun-wiel’ bike feel is like a rigid mtb with 3” rubber. They definitely ad that bump compliance that makes everything a bit more comfy for where you tend to ride these bikes. You wont clinch your butt cheeks/teeth anymore when you see you are going straight through imperfections in the road. They make jarring sharp edges feel a lot more round if that makes any sense and you really feel the difference over longer rides.
  21. Thanks, appreciate it. Given the recent M.O for attacks on cyclist using weapons you can buy from builders for R40…if I were to see a random guy who didn't ‘belong’ there carrying said weapons, i’d probably sh!t myself and never ride there again. Ive been bike jacked down the road from Conties before. I pay for the membership to be able to use the traverses to get between the farms and avoid the roads. Hence why my spidey senses are on high alert here.
  22. Confirmed Second sighting today around 1pm. I was catching my breath at the blue bench on the way to Bloemendaler when i saw these 3 hiking up the trail. Why would they be hiking up to the mast? Are they guys working on the telkom tower? Highly Doubt it. In anycase, people shouldn't be walking up the trails regardless of their motives! @tygerbergmtb @Morne Veer etc Please bring this to Hillcrest attention urgently? This is somewhat worrying….
