  1. i run mechanical stuff because it's just more reliable. I couldn't care less about charging anything on my bicycle. I want to ride it on a whim and put it away dirty. I guess UDH / direct mount ads to that reliability. So its now actually worth looking at for me. Although i also have no issues with my shimano mechanical stuff. I mean...once you set the limit screws and B tension you never really touch it again...plus, i literally don't care if i break a deraileur off during riding....they are so cheap (shimano). Thats the only drawback of all this UDH stuf....cost.I dont want to treat a dangling bit at the back of my bike like my suspension stantions. It WILL hit rocks.
  2. I’ll admit they have my attention now. Although some of the initial reviews suggest the shifting ergonomics isn't perfect. Maybe you just need all those screws to get perfect shifting😅
  3. To be honest, doesn't surprise me that anything on leatt gear would give one hives😅. They really use the cheapest of the cheap materials. Almost all my leatt gear has fallen apart just from washing. Once bought a R1k enduro jersey. It lasted one ride. Pulling apart at seams. Never again.

Really miffed i’ll be missing this one due to injury…again.🤦🏻‍♂️ good luck boys & girls! 5 stages at jonkers is no joke and Armageddon-crampy-jelly-leg-syndrome is a real thing! Whisper to your bikes - so they treat you well on the final two stages, because you’ll likely just be a passenger lol!

Although i’m not sure what the duties are on electronics or watches (if any), bringing it in through an online retailer will likely mean that price will be Ex VAT, customs handeling fees and whatever duties SARS deem fit. So as per shopping bike parts which draw 0% duties…expect to ad about 25% ish on top of what you pay. Then with things like this with built in communication tech…you always run the risk of things getting stuck if someone realises it has to be ICASA approved.   12. This. a MTB is a road bike too, albeit a slower one, but a way more comfy one. But it’s a bike that can ride any road. A road bike is a road bike. And on some roads a road bike is pretty crap😁. OP, the answer is clearly then to buy a gravel bike…

  17. I used to have a 120mm carbon one circa 2016. Even back then they were super nice compared to other things. And stiff like a fresh banana!

  20. Yet stil as stiff as a 2-week old banana when you ride over anything bigger than a pebble or weigh more than 80kg. Those things have more flex in them than a politician’s moral compass😅
  21. I think in just two posts you have a picture of why there are a few SIDs floating around…and i guess its the opposite to what i might have thought initially. People obviously swopping or looking to swop 120mm SIDs for 130mm Pikes😉
  22. Ps: if you ask me you see them on sale because they are mostly specced on marathon / modern XC bikes…maybe the od downcountry bike. XC guys have this thing in their head that more travel on modern bikes = worse. They basically just want rigid forks with some squish, so i think they either get something lighter or with less travel.I don't know, hard to say. Maybe someone with experience can chime in. I do know though that you would rather want a Pike on something like a SC tallboy and there are plenty of dentists around… I have a Pike ultimate (140mm), it adorns my banshee hardtail or my wife’s hyrax depending on my mood. Its such a good fork for what it is. It ls obviously not as stiff as the 36 and 38mm monsters we use on enduro bikes but it doesn't mind to go as hard .
  23. If your bike can take it, Id just get a Pike ultimate in 130mm unless you are concerned by the slight increase in weight. Its a far superior and way more versatile all round trail fork imo. If you do a spread of different riding that is. Those xc forks are all noodles because they prioritise weight over stiffness. Its very noticeable. Especially if you aren't a featherweight. Pike has a better damper too with all the dails and knobs to get you confused on fork settings lol. Do you use or need lockout? Even consider the fox 34 (non sc). Performance Elite gets you all the factory goodness without the overrated, flakey Kashima. I think the 34 can do 120mm. A Performance version will basically get you what the Sid offers in terms of adjustability. i think for you to feel a noticeable difference you’d have to jump to a stiffer chassis. Maybe the Sid will offer a slight increase in stiffness over the 32…but it still wont be that stiff. More stiff = holding lines beter through rough sections, corners etc, also more direct feel. 2c: consider the riding you do first and foremost i’d say. Ive met you on the od occasion and you aren't a 60kg racing snake. You might extract noticeable benefits from something a bit stiffer bolted to the front of your bike.
