  1. eset was most upset when I clicked on the link!
  2. Congratulations on being a tough guy. On being knowledgeable not so much. As far as the organisers, towns, businesses, charities and disappointed participants are concerned everybody loses massively. The call to cancel was made by the George Municipality Disaster Management. The reason being that they carry the accountability and responsibility if something bad happens. Disaster management plans is a big hurdle the organisers must clear in any race. Now to understand accountability and responsibility my question to you is: If you in your personal capacity is the person that will decide the race must go ahead, will you Lynskey, in your personal capacity, be responsible and accountable for any deaths, injuries, costs incurred in rescue or any claims arising?
  3. The humble perspective of someone more often than not addressed as Oom. Rule #1 - Make sure the team is on the same page, don't force the weakest link. Rule #2 - Take a sense of humor along, actually take a few senses of humors along... Rule # 3 – Deflate your front tyre to 0.9bar (zero point nine) Rule #4 – Rule #2 reigns supreme! If you are dodgy in the fitness department, view it as a veeeeeeery long coffee ride, use the same pace, but if you have done a 5hour ride in your life you should be fine. Start slow, keep that pace. To CP #1 Vero’s - Nice 52 km of undulating hills, no monsters, control the adrenaline in the beginning, you can start racing up the Neverender (if by then you still feel like racing). Screaming down the Nuwekloof Pass is about the most fun you will have in the race. Enjoy the roosterkoek! To CP#2 Zandvlakte - Gentle 42 km downhill meander, but you must still pedal... keep the heart rate at an acceptable level, it is easy to get over-exited on this section with a nice tail-wind going. The food is generally healthy stuff. To CP#3 Smitskraal – Just 30km. At 115km Baviaansback is the first bump in the road. A not too serious climb but you start feeling the 100 kays! I lied, screaming down the Baviaansback will be the most fun to be had today. The sosaties at CP#3 are out of this word, enjoy but not too many! By now you will have come to realise that at every waterpoint Wicus the Sadist will offer you great food and immediately take you up a steep incline!! Pick up your lights at this point. Any mishap and you will arrive at Bergplaas in the dark. To CP#4 Bergplaas – Only 20 km, what can go wrong…. Langwater, The Fangs and the small matter of the Bergplaas climb. The hardest two hours of the day. Cycling past the campsite called Doodsklip invokes some irony as one starts the gentle run-in to Bergplaas. Too tired to enjoy the sunset take the turnoff to Bergplaas for some proper soup! Break out the dry clothes and extra jacket as the cold can be rather intense. To CP#5 Pakstoor – Going down the Big Dipper is best done in the dark. Your lights will not reveal the fearsome drop next to the road! This is an easy 30km section, save some energy for the last push home. Pizza and some slap chips do wonders for the body. To CP#7 Zuurbron – Focus on the Zuurbron Jaffels. That is all that is important over the next 30km. The Neverender is not an issue. It is not too steep and in the dark you cannot see how far it is. Just grind it out. Like a day at work. Just know after 20km from Pakstoor there is a downhill. The biggest challenge of the day is not to pig out on too many jaffels… believe me the temptation is there. Your Rennies must fight cramps, not heartburn. HomeRun – Only 20 to go, you are in a surreal world with the rear bike lights mixing with the wind turbine lights. If only all those lights could only flash at the same time… the OCD displaces tiredness and soon the Railroad single track takes you to Mall. There the Second-Best Spur Burger ever will await us again this year. The Best Ever Spur Burger is served at the To Hell and Back Race! Have fun. Never forget that.
  4. My times (4h-4h30 type of rider) for the 2020 and 2022 were identical(1 minute difference). I entered my splits for both and compared it with the prediction. 2020 - Fair weather, it was surprisingly accurate, at most 3minutes off on certain splits. 2022 - 10 minutes behind up to Smitswinkel where the rain stopped. Going slow the first half left lots of matches for the second half My judgment call is that it is a pretty good tool for Joe Average, most certainly better than the weather predictions 😎😎😎
  5. Thank Goodness! This thread nearly went off the rails..... 8 pages of comments without a mention of the weather😜
  6. The Pofadder start is near the Langverwacht Wynmakery on the R317. Free to ride, very nice single-track and some testing sections.

    Transbaviaans 2022

If I assume he is one of your EA mates, he came unprepared with fingerless gloves and just a couple of layers.... But then I think he is an alien 😜😎
  8. Will help seal up guys battling with stomach troubles during stage races.....no more squirt
  9. To be honest, I cannot speak to your question with absolute authority. The reason I use Apple products is because I’m not particularly clever but it is very easy to get Apple stuff to work. In essence AppleTv is just a streaming device that is very good at handling hi definition visual content, Netflix, Showmax, Rouvy ect. It is a freestanding product, no iPhone needed, just create an Apple ID (e- mail and password setup) and off you go…. The problem of course is that once used to it you would want an iPhone and iPad too😎
  10. Methinks you think all right. I ran my Flux2 on an older laptop, always issues with Rouvy freezing for a few seconds on a regular basis. As the problem disappeared with my current laptop, I think it was purely the processing speed of the old one that could not handle 1080p resolution. Bought an AppleTV. What a pleasure!
  11. Try Banting. Then you will not worry about energy bars.....😝
  12. A HUGE overdraft...... then they do not want to lose you as a customer if you make demands 😉
  13. Official 10 Year Cape Epic Toughness Table..... 2008 had a 27% dropout, a slight outlier, 9 days riding The slowest times were generally just over double the winning time!
  14. The Comrades coverage were always great. Showing the grit and grime of the strugglers.... people like me that is used to warm Steri-Stumpi's at the end of a stage race....
  15. ..... not fun riding/walking up the Ou Wapad with more than a dozen bee-stings on your body🐝 😵.... luckily I'm not allergic and could carry on
  16. Water lubricates the cutting object (ie glass) reducing the friction to cut the tyre. Simple test, try shaving dry....
  17. https://www.thinoptics.com/readers/best-sellers/readers-universal-pod I never ride without it....... especially after replacing brakepads on feel during the Tankwa Trek!
  18. Follow Jewbacca's lead..... apparently he is racing the CTCT in the e-bike section 🤣
  19. Meet Spoorstaaf (Rail-track). The veteran of 16 Tours is coming out of retirement to ride my 30th Argus! In this year’s starting group Spoorstaaf and I am honoured and blessed to have my daughter alongside us. She was at my first start in 1992 as well, albeit in her mother’s womb!
  20. I ALWAYS race..... but to most it appears I am on a fun-ride😜
  21. Save up Boet, it's hugely expensive...... spending the equivalent of 8 brand new top-end bikes on my Laatlammetjie's further education over the next four years....

    Attakwas 2022

does this mean you have two days to finish... Advice from someone who has dragged a rather lardy and old body over that mountain a handful of times, Front tyre @1bar, will help to smooth the rocky first half start slow, keep that pace if you see someone walking, start walking reflect on the meaning of life, long for the days you mowed your lawn on Saturdays halfway is just that but the second half is easier as your body has adjusted to the pain the very last hill is not that steep and you end on a downhill.... Enjoy every minute of life after you have finished!!! Bonus tip - Go and ride Tierkop in George a couple of times, that will give you a good idea what to expect.
  25. I do not think sizecastic comments will ever be a big thing.....
