  1. Yeah, I've been getting better but I think I can get better more quickly. Need to get my wattage up. Problem is I can't ride during the week, so a solid indoor trainer makes sense. It's quiet compared to my crappy, broken Giant one as well.
  2. Picked up a Wahoo Kickr Snap yesterday. I've been using a cheapo Giant indoor trainer that was slightly broken, that I bought for R300, up until now. This will be my first experience with anything to do with watts as well. Really hoping that this will allow me more, quality time in the saddle, and a sub-3 947 this year.
  3. Would've loved to join but alas, my schedule doesn't allow... Busy time of the year, this.
  4. Entered!
  5. This is the reason I'm considering the Kickr Snap, though many people on this forum say that the Cycleops unit is better.
  6. Keen to find this out as well. I know the trainer can connect to my Garmin Edge 520 and give power stats and such (this would then combine cadence, speed and power into one activity), but can the trainer still be controlled by my Tablet at the same time, provided it has a Ant+ dongle? Or will the trainer software also pick up my existing Garmin cadence sensor (I gather it measures speed internally, but if not, there's always the Garmin speed sensor as well)?
  7. No safety concerns? Should maybe do a regular, relaxed coffee run through town ad a group. I've been living in Pretoria for 5-odd years and I didn't know about the museum either. Hell, I never get to that part of town anymore and it's hardly miles away from my home.
  8. Is this carbon?
  9. Importing is fine and I'd get a local builder to build the wheels for me. Road, rim. Many people seem to think, and I'm inclined to agree, that you get much better value for money, and often a better quality product, going for a custom wheel build, assembled by someone who knows what they're doing, when compared with something that's likely at least partially machine built and finished by a kid earning R2/day in a factory in some far East country.
  10. How much did these set you back in total, if you don't mind me asking, and where did you order from?Considering having a new set of wheels made up since my current ones are starting to look unhealthy.
  11. So do all you guys have power meters? I like the scientific approach and am looking for a reasonably good deal on an indoor trainer that has power output. Makes more sense to me than getting something like a Stages power meter, but damn, prices are rough lately.
  12. 358m of ascent over that distance. I was seeded J at 947 so doubt I would be able to keep up with you boys and girls yet, but wouldn't mind trying!
  13. It has to. My first 947 this year and I have the accompanying crappy seeding. Need to join in next year.
  14. A paint job by Bogus. The man is an artist.
  15. Watts are watts and torque is torque. These would be easier to peddle when the chain is on the "short" part but harder on the "tall" part of the ring, compared to a standard circular ring of the same tooth count.
  16. I really want that wheelset... Plus a Bogus paint job to make my frame fit it better.
  17. I'm hardly a pro, I just happen to have a very nice bike that's likely being let down by its wheels, if they really make that big a difference. Will nag a LBS and see if they're willing to give me a loaner set for a day or two.
  18. Do you really notice a difference between an entry level wheel like Mavic Aksiums and a R12k set of Dark Horse carbon wheels? Understandably strangers wouldn't be keen to let me take their set for a spin and I don't have any close friends with sets to try and I'm not dropping that much on something that may not actually improve my experience.
