  1. those 'alterations' in the first pic are hectic! how'd you get the owner to pay for all that misalignment???
  2. Colony has been an awesome show since inception, but Season 3 is incredibly captivating. Absolutely top notch. Yes, its scifi, but the story told is very applicable on many levels relative to our real lives, and in many ways, reflects topical issues facing countries and the world. even without the scifi aspect, it's a very plausible near future for us.
  3. congrats bud. but I won't lie: I still feel genuine sadness that the two of your parted ways. I like y'all as a couple. But cheers to new beginnings!
  4. and no sandpaper needed.swak showing by the proteas. wtf.
  5. yes it does. It's a very cost effective replacement for tarring/creosoting poles. Boats, houses were sealed against rot and insect infestation this way for centuries. The problem you'll find with SA Pine is the age of the wood. Those growth rings are massively far apart, so there's lots of softer wood that burns alot easier than the harder growth ring. This changes the result of Shou sugi ban
  6. quite correct Ed. i've been doing variations of SGB for a while now. Light burn, hard burn, brush, no brush etc. While i love the effect, it's not what I'm after. thanks though RB for the suggestion.
  7. the tea is an easy way as i wasn't sure where'd i'd find the leather curing stuff. time to play around with tea and see .
  8. just read through another project, where additional tannins were introduced into the wood via water solution, same way tannins are introduced when curing leather. Apparently, this was to avoid the ebonizing not progressing to the desired black color (it would go grey instead during natural variations of tannin in the wood). maybe that's where the tea comes in..hmmm
  9. Ta for the advice guys. Did any of the guidance you offer, result in the following finish? This is what i'm after. I watched the vid associated with the images, and the person used a two part process of dye + stain to ensure full and proper coverage+penetration. But that's overseas stuff, so was wondering what's available locally.
  10. if there is enough genuine free play (as opposed to a stretch or causing a kinked radius somewhere else, then that can work as well. But try not to limit your options based on the size of the opening. This is the kind of job you want to do properly. First time.
  11. the dry wall replacement is very easy, so frankly, i suggest you make that hole bigger so you can do better work on that pipe repair. For that repair, i'd rather widen the gap between the pipes by cutting off another section, add in another section of matching (on OD) pipe, and use the appropriate compression fittings to join it all together. if you widen the gap, you can cut off exactly how much you need to accomodate for two compression fittings and the bridging pipe. The compression fittings have an inner shoulder against which the pipe should butt up against. The internal distance between shoulders is normally known, 10mm for local brass compression fittings. So you extend the gap by twice the shoulder distance + the replacement pipe length of your choice. It will go super swimmingly.
  12. first ride with magic mary (SG carcass, trailstar) in yonks and damn, what a mighty fine tyre. grips as good as the E13 (yes, it's been that long since I've ridden schwalbe upfront that i can't even remember how it feels), but it feels like it rolls quite a bit faster. That is, climbing felt easier, corners came a bit quicker than I expected.. all signs of quicker roller.
  13. question: how best to get wood to ebonize pitch black, but with grain still showing? there's burning, staining, ink+oil+stain, there's painting (but not sure of what products are available locally to achieve the effect). Thoughts, experiences?
  14. started Sacred Games last night. the trailer grabbed me, and so far, it's not disappointing. Not the usual fair, but very much watchworthy IMO. https://youtu.be/28j8h0RRov4
  15. Read somewhere (E13 website i think it was) you have to clean the rubber around the repair area very well. The advisory is to use brake cleaner, otherwise the patch tends to come unstuck eventually, if not sooner. After rubbishing my E13 carbon rim, i'm back on the aluminium backup wheel shod with non-Addix magic mary. Will be interesting to feel the difference in rolling resistance specifically. Having both E13s on was honestly, like riding with the parachute deployed.

  17. i really enjoyed Secret City. A very bingeworthy series. I see season 2 has a greenlight. good stuff!
  18. someone, somewhere in the LBS cabal is having a good chuckle at your expense...
  19. 100 Code: thoroughly enjoying the show, but ran outta eps . Very keen to see how it pans out. Swedish sounds so unfamiliar to my ear, i'm almost tempted to learn it. In the absence of the above, started watching Secret City staring the ever delightful Ana Torv. Aussie/US production, so will be interesting to see her speak her native tongue boilerplate style synopsis. sBut there's something about judgements and covers.
  20. yep. same sentiment. they did the same thing to JJ. Daredevil less so as far as I can remember. that said, the story of Mariah Scarey was interesting, and the one arc that was decently fleshed out. Felt genuinely sorry for her hardship. But her character is genuinely one of the scariest on TV atm. She's a like one of those dogs that have very cute faces, but will rip your throat at on a whim.
  21. and it was....
  22. easy Ladderman. was just offering a widened scope of application for the care-package. Given the gravity defying capabilities of your ladder, I'm surprised you didn't fit some wheels and hit the single tracks with it! sounds like you couldn't eat dirt even if you tried!
  23. i like how they chained the braai cover to the braai stand. rough hood?
  24. oh yeah... do it.. https://youtu.be/EYgFsYzwJ40
