Nah dude, there is certain responsibility involved when you have a ~80 kg dog that can inflict serious damage and death - even if you're Kobus Wiese you hardly stand a fighting chance against such a dog. Dogs are domesticated animals, ecologically so far removed, and have zero claim to any territory. Unless you're trespassing, the law is actually on your side and the liability is on the owner.

I feel your pain man. I recently got bitten by a boerboel - owner/farmer was 50 m away and couldn't care less. For the sake of peace with land owners and trails going over them I decided not to pursue it further with litigation, as it would probably have ended up with the farmer closing off access to his and neighboring farms and in the process everyone else loses out. I haven't ridden there ever since the incident.

What fork? It’s a straight steerer head tube (although it looks tapered) and there aren’t many forks to choose from. Those headsets with the outboard bottom cups that will allow you to run a tapered steerer also don’t come cheap. I went through that same exercise before. Ended up buying a spez epic.

A Puff adder is like any wild animal, unpredictable.There are no rules as to when it will strike, but like most animals will try to flee or rely on its camouflage for protection/safety before attacking. Puffies do not have heat/infrared sensors like rattle snakes. Like other snakes, their forked tongue allow them to smell/taste in "stereo" to pinpoint its prey. That their fangs are long is true, and could easily grow to 2 cm and puncture material.
