  1. I've realized I like lower volume casings. The Spez 2.3 ground controls I had once already felt too much, and I'm experiencing the same with the 2.5 maxxis dhf I am currently running. Too low pressure and it feel like the front is rolling, go higher and it wants to wash out. I prefer a tyre that can cut into the trail, and it'd be safe to say that 27.5+ is not for me without any experience of it whatsoever.
  2. Got two male Boomslang battling it out last weekend at Jonkershoek. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Sploosh!!!
  4. Pity it looks so hideous. A duckbill platypus looks less awkward.
  5. I don't recall drawing comparisons, and if it came accross that way it's my mistake. I have never done a side by side comparison of any bicycle brands. I pointed out that I don't agree that their manufacturing is superior based on the fact that I have seen numerous surface imperfections on their frames over different models and that I expect near perfection on a R40-60k product. I'm not bashing the brand, I'm on my 2nd Spez, and neither am I a fanboy - of any kind/brand whatsoever, except Lagavulin and Marmite - Oxo and Bovril is just gross.
  6. Ai, are you're going to get upset over some random person's opinion on the internet? But if the shoe fits, go ahead, play into the marketing hype. Send more $$$ It's a pleasure and thank you, now I've to hear/read another "26 for life rider" bragging about his conquest of beating 29er s-works mamils on his local trails thinking it's some accomplishment and that 26" is just as fast as wagon wheels.
  7. I don't know. I don't even look at bikes that cost that much...it just happened that it caught my eyes. I have more than enough sense to know that R140k for a bicycle is just ridiculous. It's got nothing to do with affordability, I just would not want to be seen on one...unless my skill and performance justified it, but then again whose does? I see enve wheels, and the only thought that goes through my mind is 'a fool and his money,' but that's just my opinion (which you kinda ask for now).
  8. Well I was referring to my own standards to be fair. When I drop that much cash on a 2 wheeled equipped implement I damn sure expect near perfection. To be fair, you also have to look at the frame design and shape before drawing such comparisons between brands. Santa Cruz comes to mind of a very well finished product (the few I've seen), and a few others (Pivot, Cannondale). But the Santa cruz frames have a much more basic shape and smoother lines compared to the Spezs. And the paint work will also determine how visible it is. A matte/satin finish will hide surface imperfections more so than a glossy finish. The light source plays a role as well. When you look at the Spez frames, especially at the top tube and seat tube junction where the top tube forks out, it is very noticeable. The first time I picked up on that was at a shop where a series of Cambers and Stumpies where lined up - from comp to s-works models. None looked identical, and almost like some overzealous sanding was applied. Also noticed it later on my Enduro and Epic models. Is it bad? Dunno. But a premium product demanding R40-60k for a frame...imho QC should look at aesthetics as well.
  9. I beg to differ. The finishing on spez carbon frames that I've seen is rather poor. So many imperfections on the surface it hardly looks like any time was spent prepping the carbon frame before final spray painting, but then again...maybe my standards are higher.
  10. That Spez!! Recently saw an oke with one at Peregrine padstal. That thing in the flesh, is hot.
  11. I had to look up the spec on the new Anthem now. 120mm for xc? Interesting development. HT @68deg is sweet. But I would take a Pike over a SID any day. I've no idea what quality the giant hubs are, but the Rovals aren't anything to get excited about, and it will certainly not be the selling point of the bike. For me, the Scott Spark RC still looks like the best bike overall for xc. I had an Epic, it's a great bike and perfect for all day riding on all our trails...except on Upper Canaries @Jonkers. It was too twitchy for my own comfort.
  12. I've had these a few times in my basket, but never pulled the trigger due to cost and priorities of other bicycle related purchases. After reading this, I'm glad I didn't buy it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Was it you and your riding buddy that I got at the top and advised you to climb to the top of the saddle?
  14. I have no problem with others shaving their legs, but I don't have calves, so I don't want them to look even skinnier. At least I don't have skinny girly arms like the rest of the cyclists. Girly arms are just wrong on a man. Leave the razor and rather lift something heavy. Socks...I love my donut versus socks. They go nicely with my pink laces too.
  15. Errr, ja meant DHR2 for the rear.
  16. Looking for a new rear tyre. My Spez Slaughter's are starting to show signs of wear and along with the powdery dry trail right now, braking grip isn't too hot. Got about 3000km on the rear, so not too bad I suppose. Looking at Maxxis Highroller or DHF2, as an alternative. How do they stack up ito mileage?
  17. The winner will announced at 12...to the public. So if you haven't received a call yet and have your photo taken with the handover then you haven't won!
  18. Yeah, problem is people think mountain biking is riding on farms through vineyards. “There is great diversity such as olive orchards, cattle farms, lucerne fields and nuts,” said Herbst. Wtf, is that even a selling point?
  19. No mention of all those cables and levers? Must be a pretty busy cockpit with; L+R brake levers F+R shifters Dropper post lever F+R twin-lockout lever. I test rode the previous spark 940 which was fine, but it didn't have the extra dropper lever+cable. How's the layout and its operation?
  20. Those are XD freehud/driver body for sram 1x11 (10-42) or 1x12 (10-50) cassettes.
