  1. True, but they usually come at premium over the corded stuff.
  2. Don't just stare blindly into power tools. Hand tools are also just as important. Power tools: 1>Circular saw. You can do quite a lot with it, refer to youtube for jigs and guides. Cross cut, "table saw" fixture and guide rails. 2>Orbital sander - Get the Bosch GEX 125. 3>Router - possibilities are almost endless what can be achieved with one. Bosch Green POF1400 is a solid budget unit. 4> 18 V cordless drill/driver 5> Don't forget about a jigsaw. Can be very handy at times. Hand tools: 1> Chisels 2> Hand planes - No.4 and No 6 3> decent back saw 4> Squares, marking gauges, bevels, straight edges. And one small precision square you never drop on the floor and always pack away immediately after using it. 5> Clamps. You can't really do wood working at all without these.
  3. Does anyone know where one can find cast iron hand wheels locally? Something like this would be nice;
  4. What wood are you looking for and for what purpose, blanks for turning? If it's small lots, Rarewoods have off-cuts available, ideal for small projects like that or perhaps the odd jewelry box.
  5. +1 Be careful when buying off ebay. Lots of scams and fake products. Amazon is a good place to start looking for good prices, if ebay is way below that then it's probably just too good to be true.
  6. Yeah well, that is the one part of my body with which I'm not taking any chances.
  7. Problem is woodworking (or making a table) on it's own is already beyond the realm of the average Joe, partly due to all the machinery required to build something, and the accompanying costs involved. Just to dimension lumber, requires 3 different machines. To add robotics to the mix will be serious moola. For IKEA flat pack stuff, a CNC router is sufficient, however I can't see doing anything more complex without 5 or 6 axis robotic arms.
  8. Kinda interesting, but CNC machines have been doing this for ages now, so it's about as useful as tits on a nun. And why would you take the fun of operating power tools out of the equation?
  9. Wow, risking his life??? As a laaitie we wrestled/scrummed boer bok ramme.
  10. I'm almost going on one year with no bike related purchases. Last items were a new rear tyre and serviced shock. The itch has been cured. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. No point dressing up Kate Upton like crap when the theme is to look like your old granma's table cloth.

  13. Dated a girl for almost 6 years after school. My biggest regret was spending the last two years of university in a relationship, and all those other lost opportunities. Decided to either not get married or at least till somewhere after 30. Variety is the spice of life, and Tinder certainly helped for those lost years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. If the belts slip, some fan belt spray might help? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Made a cutting board for the gf this weekend. Found out the p.o.s. ryobi thicknesser isn't working. Had to spend an extra hour with the hand plane. Actually contemplating making a couple of these to fund a new Dewalt thicknesser now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I'd go for the Record Power. Nothing to do with Rercord/Irwin, however it gets good reviews overseas and the unit is exactly the same as Toolmate stuff that's sold locally. Today is the first time I've read good things about MacAfric, so ja, I'd personally avoid it. At the end of the day, all these eastern made power tools are made in the same factories in Taiwan, just sold under different branding, whether it's Martlet, Toolmate, JET, Grizzly or Record Power.
  17. Just pointing out the trends. The only thing that i can hit hard is the ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So 2018 we're going longer travel with 180 mm, where 2017 briefly tried to make everyone buy short (110-130mm) travel bikes, after 160mm become old news in 2015, eh no? 2020 should see us riding 200mm dual crown extremeduro bikes.
  19. +1 on Bourne gleem. They also do a Water based one (Waterbourne). I'm not too fond of the finish achieved with water based floor sealers, but it doesn't have any of the nasty fumes you have to deal with in polyurethane sealers.
  20. One day I'll do the same, and go to Wacken open air.
  21. Yeah, my one colleague was one of them. Luckily (now) his friend spilled his beer on his rig - and his insurance covered it. He had taken out a personal loan to fund it. Small mercies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Luckily got out last year and made my money when it went just over $10k. It was getting too absurd, climbing >$1k/ day. Stories of people taking a mortgage against their home loans just to buy BTC. All those smartass "financial advisers" are awfully quiet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
