  1. Mike Finch's book Triathlon has everything you need. What's important for a novice is that you focus on long rides and easy runs. Don't try and run the marathon - train to run / walk it. Also you need to get your mind sorted to prepare for a 12 hour or longer day on the road! There's no need to waste time and money on testing and biokintecists at this stage. If you train at low intensity and grade your increases injury is unlikely. Good luck!!
  2. Forget about the password - R 265-00 to enter is daylight robbery! Multiply that by 28 000 and someone's sneaking heaps of cash somewhere!! I'm not impressed. But who cares?!?!?!
  3. C'mon folks, some of these "complaints" are just ridiculous. We can't honestly expect marshals or race organisers to sweep a race route to get rid of sand. glass etc. Get real. As for waterbottles, I cannot understand how you lose a waterbottle. Adjust your cage so your bottle fits snugly for heaven's sake. I thought it was a well organised race and didn't see any crashes.
  4. This sucks. Apparently there was another hijacking at the Steppes yesterday morning. Is there anywhere we can still ride safely? Maybe we should all head to Canada.
  5. I don't think its wise to send anything of value with the SAPO. Use DHL or any other private courier. Amazon refuses to deliver to SA due to the high rate of parcel theft. But you really shouldn't blame POLAR for the SAPO strike. Their service has been really great.
  6. 2 quick comments.... 1. You need at least one day where you nothing but REST! 2. Way too much spinning. Replace two of the spinning sessions with a gym resistance (weight training) workout - working core and upper body (arms and shoulders). It'll help your mountain biking tremendously. I'd also move the Fri am workout to the afternoon to give you more recovery time from Thursday's workout.
  7. Off Twitter today from TeamRadioShack: Here at our HQ, we note Lance has expressed an '10 sched. that includes TdF, ToC, Cape Epic, Leadville 100 MTB, Kona Ironman, & ???? #TRS
  8. The Hub is full of Lance-haters despite his fikking awesome achievements and yet this thread generates 10 pages in a day. Go figure!!
  9. Must agree that they really are good. But at R 25-00 per bar not many of us will b having them during end-of-the-month rides.
  10. Very cool pics dude! When & where's the next one? I wanna come too.
  11. There's only one name in sport-optics: OAKLEY!!!
  12. Are you dead set on Polar? Suunto have some great models T6 will give you everything you want and more. Also, Garmin is worth looking at!
  13. Wayne, I've got an old MTB lying around. It needs some attention, but most of it is there. Let me know.
  14. Road or MTB?
  15. Photoshop. For sure. In fact one of these pics were used in a Powerade advert recently.
  16. Lance is still the best (and strongest) 3rd week rider in the world. He showed it in the Giro and he'll show it again in the Tour. I believe though that he really was red-lining up to Verbier and today he showed that he has lost the ability to immdiately accelerate, but he rode up to Schleck's break with such pace today I thought he might just pass them and keep going!! And don't ever forget Lance's TT ability - roll on Thursday!! Mont Ventoux will be epic!!
  17. I'd suggest Tacx IDT. The wear on the drive train is minimal - you'll have same wear when riding normally! Spinning bike is also good for general fitness but it doesn't mimick real riding too well. imo
  18. It p!sses me off too. spcially since those b@st@rds have no clue what to do with a bike like that. My domestic's daughter was held up at knife point next to Pirates sports club. These guys are Zimbos who can't survive there so they just come join the crime wave in SA. We were out near there trail running along the river this morning. It could have been anyone of us in the sporting community!
  19. Douglas Ryder had to cough R 10k excess luggage on SAA today as MTN Ladies fly to race in Europe. SAA YOU SUCK for not supporting SA sport.
  20. Basically everyone is the hell in with Garmin for cahsing at the end, keeping legend George Hincapie who was in the breakaway out of yellow by 5 secs. Astana put two guys on the front of the peleton for most of the stage until the gap to the breakaway was close to 9 minutes. Garmin just screwed it up for everyone at the end! Lots of heated discussions between riders and team managers on Twitter.
  21. As far as -books go USD 20 is just a rip-off.
  22. Yeah I'd love to have legs like Lance, but my wife won't let me ride my bike 8 hours a day. She's on about making money or something like that....
  23. This sounds awsome. Look forward to see the report and pics.
  24. I haven't read the whol thread but I'm just always amazed that there is ALWAYS 1 numbnut that messes things up for everyone. The same happened at the old Wesbank raceway and at Kyalami, both of which were kick-ass training venues!! Doubt we'll ever get rid of them though.
