  1. This was a seriously fun event and very well marshaled with clear signage everywhere. The route was very challenging and exciting with spectacular views. Waterpoints were well stocked with pancakes, banana bread and a few fruits. Maybe just one or two things to consider for next year: Some people were a bit upset about the separate starting times for men and women as people wanted to ride with their partners, etc. By the time some of the slower riders got in, there was no more food available to purchase as the only people catering had already closed up shop around 13h00. Finally, that downhill segment at the top of Bainskloof was brilliant.
  2. Exactly why I put that little piece in bold letters. It all boils down to attitude and approach. One of my favourite sayings on this forum: "Don't be a box, be lekker"
  3. That can also be quite a sticky situation. The traverse is for members only and also says no trail running, etc. So depending on my luck, I might also have come across someone who walks, runs or rides there with no Helmet/TBMTB board on their bike, only to find out it is the land owner. Depending on how you speak to them during your confrontation, they should also be grateful for those of us who try our best to keep rouge riders off their land. *Just a hypothetical situation
  4. Flip that's so hectic. It really starts feeling like a mission every time we have to plan a ride in order to consider where we feel it ought to be safe vs constant danger. What happens if everyone starts avoiding these, so called, dodgy areas? Criminals will just move further out and create a new dodgy area. I'm getting really gatvol of this.
  5. It states very clearly on the ad that the cups are re-usable
  6. I once cycled from Milnerton to Langebaan along the R27 and felt reasonably safe. Most of the road has a pretty wide shoulder beyond the yellow line. Your other alternative is to cycle towards Malmesbury and come in via the R302 into Durbanville. But this route would be considerably longer.
  7. lol exactly. The way some of our politicians speak with that honey glazed tongue, loot and steal the coffers empty and then take zero responsibility is surely also indicative of psychopathic tendencies. I read a research study that stated about 1 out of 100 in society has psychopathic tendencies (I'm assuming various levels of severity on a sliding scale). But that in positions of power (such as business owners, politics, etc) this can be as little as 1 in 25.
  8. Psychopathic tendencies - extremely smooth talker and massive Bullsh!tter. They also have a complete lack of empathy and remorse.
  9. If you keep making your point you will be up to 1000 posts in no time. Just imagine how many more sales you will attract
  10. When I registered on a bitcoin trading site I had to jump through hoops... I had to hold in my hand 2 forms of ID, with myself clearly visible in the photo AND on a piece of paper writtern down "today's" date plus a reference number given to me for verification. I would not be entirely against such a form of registering and verification on the hub. It has been said before that the criminals will still find a way around this, but I still think it starts making things a bit more difficult for them.
  11. I think it was you I stopped and gave one of my bombs to? Glad you finished!!
  12. Awesome event, but jeepers that 50km mtb is a toughy!! Fiancee also gave the 40km gravel ride 2 thumbs up and said it was a really beautiful ride.
  13. I had an interesting talk about snakes and puffies in particular at a recent wedding with a few PhD guys doing work in Kruger. Apparently dry bites do account for a very large percentage of bites. What was more interesting is that puffies have a hormone that makes them hard to detect via smell from predators, etc. in addition to their camouflage. This is partly why they come across as "lazy", they are actually just trying to maintain hidden. So some guys went a step further and had a boot fixed to a pole and mimicked stepping on a puffie in the field to see if it will react to that. What they found there was that puffies only struck 1 out of 25 times of being stepped on. Scary part is their conclusion being that the average guy who spends a bit of time outdoors hiking, cycling, etc. in puffie areas have probably stepped on a puffie, at least once, without even knowing about it
  14. Just on the whole tough climbs chat going on, don't rule out that little monster called Bloemenhill at the bottom of the Bloemendaaler. I get to about 80-90% from the top, but then have to get off my bike as my heart rate is pushing the late 180's. It's often a bit slippery in there from the tree canopy and you also need to generate quite a bit of wattage around a few of those switchbacks.
  15. Thanks for this. I've gone down the left side on a couple of occasions and have enjoyed it quite thoroughly, very rocky and quite tricky in some sections. Never quite knew you can hit the right side too and where you would end up. I'd definitely be keen to hit that one in both directions!!
  16. The sad thing is that it's only about 20m elevation gain for all that pain.
  17. Not quite sure I agree with you on this. This IS RSA afterall. And if I was living on a farm, my spidey senses would be tingling even if a bunch of guys went out on their bikes with spotlights and a disco ball. I mean what stops me from considering them as a convenient distraction while the other guys sneak around the back? I'm happy when we get access to a farm for a night ride, but I don't complain that our farms have closing times.
  18. Maybe a dedicated e-bike lane
  19. Done this race twice already and always a fun one. Apparently less sand to be expected this year
  20. Sudden onset of phlegm in my chest last Friday, couldn't stop coughing. Rode the CTCT MTB with no major issues on the day. Symptoms have persisted and gotten worse this week. I've seen a few people around with similar symptoms this past week. Something in the air? Anyone else experiencing similar phlegm/coughing symptoms lately? Got me a bit worried for Argus come Sunday if this persists.
  21. Awesome event. Great value for money
  22. Seriously great race and a lot of fun. I almost did not make it past the first 500m though. Felt around the first corner something is seriously wrong, stopped and saw my tyre is almost down to the rim. Used my only 2 bombs to get going again and dead last in my group. Pretty stoked that the tyre held out though and I managed to do a Sub 3h30 ride
  23. I think you can manually submit any file that did not record for points to an email address, but is is a schlep and would only serve to piss you off even more if you had to do this 2-3x per week.
  24. I have had 2 Strava activities this month not recorded. I let it slide as I get my 16 quite comfortably. However, Multiply Safe Dayz is an entirely different ball game. Whenever it looks like I am going to get 26 Safe Dayz for the 30% cash back in short term insurance, Multiply just fails to record 1 or 2 of my commutes, or road familiarity score drops back down to 0% familiar road. Net result is you lose out on the 30% and only qualify for 20%
  25. I was worried about that... PPA website just says that ALL PPA events will count significantly toward your CTCT seeding. No further mention of seeding event cut-offs prior to ctct.
