I’ve been one to try all the marketing hype and fad diets etc. Low carb, high carb...I tried it all.
This is what works for me:
Oats pre-ride at least 2 hours before. 2 GU electrolyte tablets
Bottle of 32GI on the way to the ride/race
Ride is 32GI in one bottle, water in the other. Peanuts and raisins every +-45mins. Half way point 32 GI chew + 2 GU electrolyte tables. Mix different flavour 32 GI for the last half. (I carry a little bag with the powder)
I always carry a backup gel a chew.
That’s for 3 hour plus rides.
Anything less than that I will ride just with water and peanuts.
Ps. I am a mid-pack rider at best, this plan makes sure I don’t bonk and enjoy the ride and don’t swear and weep on the way home.
It was awesome
Still smiling
Tested it on the trails in Tokai. Rock gardens that rattled my teeth previously went almost unnoticed. A lot quicker but never felt out of control.
Fitted at the Bike Park at Uitsig. Chris Nixon set it up perfectly
Awesome, thanks for the feedback.
I think I’ll go this route
4th bike I have heard of falling off during transport this December.
2 off of trailers 2 off of bike racks.
I don’t even use my bike rack anymore. I spend more time watching the bikes in the mirror than looking where I’m going!
Lucky I’m single, kid free loser so my back seats are always down, front wheel off and bike loaded in 2 minutes. I know it’s also safe while transporting and don’t stress about theft after rides etc.
After reading all of these I don’t think my emotions would cope transporting any other way
Just fitted an Ohlins RXF 140 to my Stage Max
Under 10k fitted. Non boost to suit my hub
Test ride tomorrow.......
I have been looking at those as well. I’ll have to change hub but that’s not a deal breaker for me.
Will be interested to see hear your feedback.
Anyone have any experience with the below supplier and treadmill?
https://www.mifitnes...admill-trx4500/
I have tried the cheaper treadmills from the likes and game and makro and not interested in going that route.
Sportsmanwarehouse seems impossible to get the Nordic’s they advertise.
Any other suggestions for the 20-25K budget?

Yes the mini Max is what I think will suit me, I don’t know if I would ever need more with the type of riding I do.
Might be a stupid question, but can I extend my SID WC form a 100 for a 120?
Do you remember ‘Slap Socks’? Hahaha
Chainstay protectors btw
Yes I remember those
Some period as GungeGaurds? The mud guard things that zip tied to the down tube
They were big in the 90’s
For the Stage Max you really want a 140mm in the front (34mm stanchions), I know the Rockshox Pike is a favorate.
Fox has a couple of 140mm At 34mm stanchions also.
G
Oh ok lekker, thanks G!
I’ve decided to go the Stage Max route.
looking for some recommendations for a fork. R10-15k budget.
Do I go 120?
I’ve only ever ridden Rockshox so looking to try something new.
Thanks
Fox retails shops usually have. Have had luck with the one in Menlyn and the one in Umhlanga
Ah thanks, I forgot there was one in Menlyn
I am the only person who finds it virtually impossible to buy Fox kit in this country?
Foxracing.co.za never has stock of anything.
Cyclelab sometimes have kit but most times it’s very limited to the small sizes.
Who else stocks them?
I got lucky and got some shorts and shirts off OneDayOnly but thats the only place I have even been able to get anything.
Tires or Tyers?
That’s awesome.
Patient little guy waiting so long to fit onto a new bike
How some bike shops stay in business I really cant fathom.
last year when I was in the marker for a trail bike - looking to spend between R35 and R45k, I walked into one of pretorias oldest shops (granted, they have changed hands and moved location a few time). The shop was empty, but they has pretty decent selection of bikes on the floor (mostly XC bikes though). Although they were empty, the salesman didnt find it nescesarry to engage with me. I eventually walked up to him, and said, verbatim, "Im looking for trail bike and willing to spend up to R45k, Specialised is running a massive sale down the road, why shouldnt I just go there and buy one of the new Stumpjumpers for R35k".
The answer I got blew my freaking mind - the muppet says to me, You should probably just go an do that, thats a really good deal - So I went and did exactly that - even though if he actually tried, he would pretty easily been able to sell me a Scott Spark 950 - seeing as they were/are scott agents....
I’ve had exactly the same from one of the many shops in Lynnwood Rd.
Was looking at getting a Trek, went in to the shop to see what stock they have and what I would needing to spend. Every employee watched me walk around and look at what they had on the floor, not a soul even came over to greet let alone discuss bikes with me. I assume it’s because I’m not your usual petite cyclist build
Left thinking they having a bad day, had to wait a few days for bonus money to clear any way. Would go back when cash was ready.
Second attempt, I walked in, guy walked out and looked at me and said something along the lines of “don’t even both”
Same thing, nobody bothered to come over, so I approached one of them. Explain to him what I’m looking for, can they get stock etc. You would swear I was asking to sleep with his sister!
Walked out mid conversation, drove to the then Trailwolf, told them what I’m looking for etc, they gave me a demo then and there to ride. Came back from the ride and and did the payment for a top end Pyga.
This was 2 years ago and since then I’ve spent many of monies at the other shops in the area (3 other brand new bikes)
I wouldn’t even go back to the original shop for a valve cap!
Where would a hippo come from in that area?
So are saying Scotts don’t have “full shockingproof frames” as listed in the specs?
As a noob, please explain what do you mean by gear down?
Definitely dont want to damage my bike due to ignorance.
It’s leaving the chain on a big chainring when parking the bike for an extended time.
Anyone looking for a Zini to restore, I would have jumped on it but it looks too big for me
She may have had less than stellar results, but don't under estimate the value of her social media following. Add her long history at Trek into that as well.
They may not have been willing to pay the same price she commanded the last couple of years, but that is pure speculation.
Yip agree, I think her social media following is what kept her there for the last year or two but would never have been enough to keep a full factory team ride going forward unfortunately.
New generation coming through are going to get the factory rides.
Best way to courier a precious classic from Sabi to Worcester?
