  1. keep in mind that boonen et al have all the time in the world to train. i only have 1h30min in the morning before work - the PT helps me make the most of the time I have available and helps to keep me honest. since i got the PT i no longer do any 4-5 hour rides of JRA (just riding around) - 3 hours is the max I will do, but i now that i am working in those 3 hours and most probably get more work done using the PT than someone training for 5 hours without one.
  2. at what point did the interval actually start in the HR subjects? if i do a L5 interval with the PT at 117%FTP the clock starts running as soon as i hit the required wattage. obviously my HR also goes up, but there is approximately a 3 minute lag on the HR - so for my 5 minute interval based on 117% of my FTP power I really only sit for 2 minutes in my peak HR zone. so - if i evaluate my 5min interval based on HR, i only did 2 min at the required zone, but if i look at it from a power point of view, i did 5 min in the required zone. so it seems to me then that the HR subjects were actually doing a 7min L5 interval whereas the power subjects were doing a 4min L5 session, and therefore the HR guys would improve more than the power guys because of the load being higher?
  3. looks like MWNN is trying his best Cancellara pose - (well done on your ride!)
  4. you can get the Norbar from http://www.toolshop.co.za/ nice thing is that the guy checks if it is calibrated correctly etc. and you can take it back for calibration whenever you want.
  5. nice picks wayne - really makes me want to go out and ride my bike! i am sure Procycling would be happy to take some off your hands - especially the one with the crash.
  6. R3 - far softer ride than soloist. drop the tripple
  7. sounds like a money problem to me! get a coach - you will not believe you guilty you feel when you miss a scheduled workout (and that way you have someone else to blame aside from yourself if you dont perform as expected )
  8. i can see a "it depends..." coming up!

  10. tell the coach - how else would they know how your are adapting to the training load?
  11. put a hardcover book over the saddle (A3 size) and then put the spirit level on that.
  12. depending on what saddle you used before, you might have to lower your seatpost. also check your knee over spindle position while sitting on the old saddle and then ensure you have the same when you sit on the FIZIK. setting the distance from the saddle nose to the bars / stem the same as the old saddle is not going to work out -- the FIZIK is longer -- if you can get the center of the old saddle measure that and then ensure that the center of the FIZIK saddle is the same distance from the stem/bars as the center of the other saddle was - this could give you a good starting point.
  13. speak to Marco at CycleTech & you can also get them at CycleLab
  14. get the Soloist - very stiff and the same geometry as the other Cervelo bikes (R3 and Soloist Carbon) i think it is still used in the ProTour by CSC. i ride mine 4 out of 6 days and i am very happy with it - the only thing i would suggest is to get a carbon seatpost and if you can some carbon bars - the alu frame passes ALL road vibrations. i suspect that the Soloist Team is about the same weight (if not lighter) than the suggested Giant. the added bonus is the powdercoat paint on the frame - it wont scratch and is really easy to clean!
  15. contact Bikemax it will be well worth it if you take out even just a one month contract with him to explain how to use the PT and help you with the FTP tests and zones.
  16. 300W is 300W - no matter how heavy the bike is - it is the same effort to generate 300W on a light bike than it is to gen it on a heavy bike. i think that you will probably go faster doing 300W on a light bike than you would on the heavier bike, but you are training not racing, so speed is irrelevant.
