A mate of mine, many years ago, spent a year sailing around the world on the Esmeralda with the Chilean navy as an exchange naval cadet. His pictures and stories have sparked a love and many dreams of tall ships. Sorry for the crappy picture.

FvR? (my cousin), first SA cadet on the Esmeralda.

But no bike mechanic should ever pose as a Ninja .

But you have to be a true bike mechanic before you can be a ninja...no ninja would have those skills haha

Small world, yes that's him.

He taught the Spanish speaking Esmeralda crew to sing Daar Kom Die Alibama in Afrikaans on the way here, and that was what they did when they docked in Cape Town.....with one or two off key bits and all. It was quite a sight to see the ship enter Table Bay and Cape Town harbour.

We're old friends of his Cape Town family and I do recall that his father is from your neck of the woods. His sisters' boy is my god-son and he's at least as naughty as his uncle FvR was in his young days.

Red rock amphitheater. on my bucket list to see one of my favorite musicians there.

Was chatting to an old school mate the other day. He saw Pearl Jam there. He's not my mate anymore.

Yes, our grandfather was the  Dutch Reformed Church minister in the valley. Pastorie kinders are naughty. FvR takes after his old man (who still acts like an 18yr old at 80).
