You only need to have one thing and know three others.

Have good composition.

Know:

ISO

Aperture

Shutter speed.

I'm struggling with my stitching of panoramas and always seem to have a bit of a seam. Any advice? I'm using Canon software.

Hi Hubbers,

I just had a chat with Gary Perkin (I'm sure he doesn't need an introduction!), and we're going to be offering a mountain bike photo clinic hosted in Stellenbosch within the next few months. We'll be focusing on getting good riding shots and the challenges therein. It will be open to SLR users as well as point & shoot camera's-hell, even camera phones, as that is what most of us take photos with anyhow!

Anyway, it will probably be a 2 day course, held during a weekend, gaining knowledge from one of the worlds best so it should be a fantastic opportunity for budding photographers. I'll keep you posted on this thread when it launches. Let me know if any of you are interested.

This is unfair, pure discrimination against gangster paradise

We also want a course like this, pretty please.

Thinking Thaba or Rietvlei with its single track through the trees would could be a great venue

Hey D, if it is even remote possible for me to make that course, I will attend! Took some pics at Paarl DH beginning of the year for the heck of it and to learn a bit - really enjoyed it. Just chatting and exchanging ideas will be great. You gonna be the supermodel?!

Nerd, just get used to the camera, play around and have fun. The free course will be a good intro. But there are basic rules to lighting - the rest are just dials (to accomplish these)... and imagination! You just juggle the three and see what happens. Auto modes can give you a good idea of what the camera thinks it should be - and a lot of Canon's preset modes can take you a looong way. (TBH, I read some books and that was that...) And make no mistake - I use Canon's presets a lot of the time still - but you have to know what they do and what you want to accomplish.

I still want to go on a course for the heck of it, but something like this course by Iride and Gary Perkin seems much more up my alley than "this is you aperture, you determine depth of field in a shot with that"...

I just got myself a camera, one step up from a P&S.

Looking to see what I can do with it, these are my first attempts taken today.

C17 Globemaster took off from Waterkloof AFB.

Compared to what I have seen on the preceding pages, I have got years to go before I become proficient with a camera.
