Seen that you peeps have to much medals, Race organizers should maybe give you the option at the end of the race, 2 beers or 2 cold drinks or a medal, so make your pick

As a race organiser, how do you suggest we manage that? For the say 6 or 7 thousand riders at our race? Look, don't get me wrong, I love the idea, and we have discussed it, but how would you manage it?

Come to think of it , this argument is stoopid . If you think a medal is a waste then you say "no thanks" and head for the beer tent . My partner never takes a medal and much to my surprise even said no to what would have been his first S2C medal .

You pay for the medal, it is part of your entry fee, I geuss about R20-R30, If you dont take it, it meens that you threw away that Bucks?

You also pay a lot of money for the cycling bodies in this country to do f-all for you . At least the medal you can take of leave , anyway R30 is only two beers !

Manage it will be hard I think, so I would take the medal display the ones I feel sentimental about and the shoe box for the rest

At the time it seamed quite serious .. I just could not let my HR below 170-180.That is very high for me. 157 is working rate. I had to stop about 4 times on that first hill to gasp for air. Something was not exactly right ..... and I decided to call it a day and go home before "they" have to take me. Even going downhill I had a HR of 150.

Now please ... all the leave-your-HR-monitor-at-home-prophets I prefer to ride with one. Having said that.... I really wondered later whether I just should have waited a few minutes before turning around. Especially as the route really was not difficult up to that stage.

I think it was the cold...my Heartrate also was in the 172bpm+ but I felt very good afterwards...good to listen to your heartrate, if you did struggle like you said gasping for air maybe start a bit slower next time to warm up better?

Next year you WILL finish it :P

I'd like the option to opt out of the medal and get the cash that would otherwise go to the chinese medal sweatshop discounted from my entry.

The rate I am going I am going to need a new shoebox. Maybe when I'm old and fat I can dress up for armistice day. I'll need to be fat because I am going to have about a thousand of these things to pin on my charity shop military clothing.

The wife told me if you bring one more medal or water bottle home then all hell is going to break loose. My last couple of races I started declining to accept any medals, badges or water bottles.

Haha...sounds so familiar...the water bottles are actually becoming the bigger issue, cause they start filling a cupboard, not just a show box like the medals do. any alternative uses for water bottles out there?

You can make small bird feeders.

Cut the tops off so that you have "glasses" for around the pool.

A medal is a lot cheaper than that, usually under 10 bucks.

My son has now started to do some MTB races/rides with me.he is in primary school and has done a few such as knysna/argus etc.His medal sort of grew onto his neck.he puts it on directly after the race and sometimes stays there for a few days even through the shower and he sleeps with it.His school has a cool thing as everyone who got a medal in any sport over the weekend then hands it over in the school hall.

I have seen the power of a medal and personaly i am glad that he now prefers mtb medals to ben ten or one or other alien like four arms.

dont worry, wont be long before girls, booze, boobs, cigarettes and all there rest become way more important than a medal or mtb ride. Then he'll want a medal if he gets the girl!
