David Marshall Posted July 20, 2011 Share In my business I use electrical components, tools and motor parts. My experience with these has led me to steer clear of Chinese wherever possible. I am sure that there are many good lines originating there, I just have not had good experiences.
Tankman Posted July 20, 2011 Share Good one... Yeah I dont care where my frame is/was made, I have insurance, if it brake I get a new one. You might not care where your frame was made but your insurer does. You probably didnt see the thread where the tjop boutght a fake chinese jobbie and tried to claim back the original thing ... needless to say the insurance did not pay out. The hidden agenda in this thread seems clear, convince yourself that copied/fake stuff is almost as good as the original and buy a frame.
Longbarn Killer Posted July 20, 2011 Share You get frames made in China and you get frames made in China. You would be very naive to think that because good quality brands like Specialized and KHS are made in China, that all frames made in China are of a good quality. There can be a huge difference in quality between two brands from the same factory. Go and buy a Cadbury chocolate and then go and buy a Coti chocolate and tell me if they are the same quality. Both are made in South Africa. Castaway, I'm not saying that the frames that you are going to be selling are bad quality, because I know nothing of the brand you are bringing in. I'm just trying to illustate a point.

brad890 Posted July 20, 2011 Share I can order new no name carbon 29er frame from China for +-R3500 and when it lands here and it will cost me +-R4500. You can see all locals selling the frames for around R14000 and up - Crazy!! They have similiar geometry...You can have 3 new no name frame vs 1 new local frame??? Up to us... just out of interest who do you import from? as being a student money is always a problem lol. and have been looking at these no name frames for a while. and would be interested in how much one would set me back if i were to start saving, would look at a 26" as i would just swop the components over from my current bike. Goodbadugly Posted July 20, 2011 Share China works like this. You as them to make you a pair of pliers that you can sell for R50, and they will. Quality is your problem. You want crap, you get crap. Ask them to make you a pair of pliers that you can sell for R400, and they will. Quality is up to the buyer. You want a bakkie for R120000? They will make one. Just don't complain if the gearbox breaks. Remember that they had to put R15 bearings in that thing to be able to produce it for that price. Somewhere in the price is also the perceived quality factor. And also sometimes HIGH profit margins. Another factor that you have to thing of is the warrantee. Take some composite frames for instance. How many times have you seen these survive 5 years if ridden hard? (Ask Weight Weenie if his third frame is still ok.) So the companies have to build in a "price buffer" to replace your well used frame.

BLACKvoodoo Posted July 21, 2011 Share I get what most of you are saying, I run a manufacturing business. When we have few orders or contract to finish we don't send the staff home or stand around , we also make our own lines to sell. It's not easy to then say "oh well it's for us so we will work ***!". You get used to working at a certain standard and stick to it.
