So where should I mail my CV too?

It's a shame there are no bikes in there! Someone clearly had a few bikes in mind when building the facilities... would be a shame to let it go to waste

Shame man, it must be really tough having to make use of such terrible facilities.

Well I finally started with my career in Germany in middle February and started to commute about three weeks ago.  In South Africa I used to have a shower at work but now I don't and have a longer commute:  So here is the run down of things.

The shortest route one way is 35 km.  The nice thing is I have a few alternatives. Either way I have open roads most of the way but as I get closer to the city the more roads and traffic you get.  The last 4 km is a bit hectic as there is a huge amount of commuters here in Munich, especially when the weather is good.

I have the luxury of picking MTB routes and road routes.  The public transport that I was using in the beginning takes me door to door 1 hour 10 minutes.  On the road bike it takes me the same time and maybe 5-10 minutes longer on the MTB.

Currently doing 2 commutes a week but as soon as I get my mud guards for the mountain bike I will do more commutes in bad weather as well.  Yesterday I cycled home (on the road bike) in pouring rain and with a back pack it is advisable to have mudguards.  So the mtb is getting clip on mud guards.

To deal with the shower problem is easy.  A pack of baby wipe cloths and some deodarant and bobs your uncle. Works well.

My aim is to cycle at least 4 times a week which would give about 300 km of cycling a week excluding weekend rides.

I have decided against commuting in winter.  I am not keen on the idea of riding with my trusty steads on salt covered roads.

Bateleur what application did you Use to plot those routes?

Looks like google maps with bike selected.

There is a bike option on google maps, but dont think it works because this is SA.

As Gandalf said, Google Maps (maps.google.com).  However there are way more options than provided. In Germany we have heck of a big network of cycling paths but does not include trails.  So there is normally way more options than on Google maps.  But it helps to get an idea.  Obviously the estimated times is based on normal folk cycling.

In SA, pick the walking route on Google maps. Works very well. It usually suggests the spruit if it's on your route.

Thanks guys , yes in RSA there is no cycle option, wasn't aware that it was available in other countries . I was hoping I was missing something. I usually use Strava heat maps to see where there are popular routes when I go to a unknown area.

Excellent stuff! Please tell us the name of your company. They sure do deserve a pat on the back, and perhaps a bit of good PR, for making such facilities available.  At the very least, tell them there's a crazy guy on the Bikehub congratulating them! ;)

Lots of companies in Jhb are catering for commuters now . I worked out of the Alexander Forbes building in Sandton that also has a place for cycles and showers as well as the office we had in Harrowdene office park in Woodmead.

But the utilization is alway low, there is never more than three commuters, except for the few weeks ahead of the 947.
