For those of you that followed Emily's story and supported us, she made her first public appearance on Saturday at the Husky Rescue Open Day where she was the star attraction. Some photos below but many more and some videos on the Husky Rescue SA facebook page.

Lovely!

It's amazing how pups will often latch onto one favour "comfort" toy. My son's goldie had a fluffy bunny that he loved and took nearly everywhere with him. He'd destroy any others he came across though!

Yeah, I got a big bunny for my puppy as well, originally she was smaller than the bunny, and then afterwards, she was massive compared to the bunny.

I had to hide and move all my stuffed animals out of her reach, because after that she thought all fluffy toys were hers. Surprisingly never tore any of them to bits, just slobbered and played with them.

Alas, when Squams and Alabama were pups, they destroyed my four fluffy toys from the Notties Brewery…

Ian, two questions ... are husky's good at getting home if they know an area ? Or are they like labies, that when freedom strikes and no one's home top watch them they will just go forever ?

Second what Vet did you use for Emily ?

ok, technically 3 questions ...

Slowbee, the problem with most huskies is that if they do get out they just run and run and invariably get lost. Some do follow a normal walking route and come back. Problem is they can cover a lot of ground very quickly, our standard house check guide lines will insist on double gates or separate front and back gardens, 6ft fence etc.

Having said that some can be trained to walk off leash but they are the minority.

Our vet is the Lammermoor vet which is near Lanseria and close to Husky Haven which is why it is convenient for us. Also nice because being in the country they are a more traditional vet with lots of diverse animals. The one day I went to visit Emily she was following a lion cub around the lawn.

when we had 2 malamute rescues for a little while we tried to get them to walk off lead a bit. Works after they have exhausted some energy while pulling against the lead. Then again there is a lady who walks her Husky's on the spruit off lead. 3 off them with no issue

I would love to rescue a Husky, but unfortunately my yard is just not big enough and both myself and the other half work 8 to 9 hour days. Thus I am considered rescuing a spaniel for my other half`s birthday this year, once I have a bigger yard I will then look at rescuing a Husky or two.
