I wouldn't think that it is measurable or quantifiable. It would be interesting to know if there has ever been a study done but I wouldn't imagine so.

From my experience I would say that if I have a couple of cigarettes on a Saturday night in my Monday session my performance will be down by as much as 10%. I feel less energetic, I battle to suck in air and I can't hit the high heart rate numbers that I usually can. By Wednesday/Thursday I am pretty much back to normal again.

In fact I am always shocked as to how much of an impact even those few cigarettes can have on me. Just shows how bad they must be for us. Really makes me wonder why I bother. Damn beer ruining my judgement.

No mate go ahead! You are a legend if you can kill yourself smoking. I do however suggest you take up BMX as I don't think smokers have the brains to cycle MTB or road.

Well... I used to smoke while I was sponsored... AS huge mistake! I can not believe I was so stupid to cycle and smoke, well I can't believe I smoked! It's a bad habbit, it took me 7 days to finish my carton. What a bad habbit, it smells and costs you a **** load of money!

I told myself, I'm going to do it right or I'm not going to do it. Left all the parties and smoking and drinking. I cycle my bike +- 24 hours a week and I must say, my life is way better without all that stuff

Smoking is a stupid idea, you have to be totally stupid or very childish to start! No, it is not hard to quit, it is very easy if you put your head to it

Apparently if you smoke dagga you go faster (that's what an old man told me in the Transkei, that their horses go faster once stoned)

No man. If you get ripped, you think you're going faster. You really aren't

Really? I thought it was just a matter of chomping & slurping some 32GI products. And a Ceramic BB of course.

And a good doctor

No doubt smoking will affect performance. Rather be a smoker, however, than have a brain that will come up with a mindless statement like this.

Yes, cigarettes will clear your throat and help you breathe on the climbs. I hear Camel Plain has the best performance enhancing effect and of course it is the doctor's favourite brand.

It's what all the euro pros are using.

In the second year of my national service, the camp i was stationed at we had to run the 2.4 twice a week, the dude who held the record for our course was a chain smoker during the day, smoked dagga and got pissed most nights when he was not on duty. There were some seriously fit okes who tried their damndest to beat him.....but he smoked them all ;)

He was a seriously fukt up guy and his fitness probably came from all the time he spent in DB, not from smoking...

No, it's like the idea that vegetarians live longer - it only seems that way.

Ah, but I know how to beat the system. We had chicken licken for supper. That's a vegable. I win
